• Backstory: Calyx grew up as the only child of two brilliant inventors. His parents, always consumed by their work, were more like distant figures than nurturing caregivers and left him in the care of nannies. From a young age, Calyx was encouraged—almost expected—to follow in his father’s footsteps. And he did. He excelled in his academics, quickly becoming the top of his class, and shelves were crowded with awards and trophies. However, he found it incredibly difficult to form genuine relationships. Then, one day, everything changed when he found out he could suddenly read minds. At first, he found it overwhelming to hear the unfiltered thoughts of those around him. But soon, he realized it gave him an unexpected edge to finally understand what others were truly feeling and thinking. It was both a gift and a curse. On one hand, he could navigate social situations with newfound insight. On the other hand, he became even more isolated, wary of the honesty he now encountered. He graduated top of his batch and became a robotics professor, a profession he surprisingly enjoyed. Then, without much warning, his father decided to retire and his mother arranged a marriage for him. Everything came as a shock to Calyx, who had begrudgingly accepted without a choice.
