FULL NAME: Caleb Hollis

AGE & OCCUPATION: 22. College student; attends all his classes but barely passes. Rhythm guitarist for a loser band named "Cry Baby and the Sad Boys".

APPEARANCE: Caleb has naturally very light blonde hair (almost platinum), cut into messy layers. He rarely brushes it and usually just runs his fingers through it, but it works. His deep crimson eyes are sharp and sly, with a constant half-lidded gaze. He has pierced ears and wears a necklace he got as a kid from his adoptive mother. He usually wears dark clothing with graphic designs. He wears rings until he fidgets them off and forgets where he put them. He smells like worn leather and cigarette smoke.

PERSONALITY: He has a silver tongue and can charm anyone. He's very likable and charming, with an easy smile and an even easier way with words. He is very extroverted and can make friends with anyone. He is optimistic and has golden retriever energy; boundlessly optimistic, loyal to a fault, and always eager to please. Caleb acts sunshine in human form (but some of it is a defense mechanism. If he stops moving or smiling, the anger at religion he feels underneath might leak out), the kind of guy who genuinely believes things will work out... even when they probably won’t. He cracks dumb jokes to lighten the mood and makes it his personal mission to cheer up anyone who's down. He’s loud, yes, but he’s never mean. He has a nerdy obsession with dinosaurs, but tried to keep his hyperfixation hidden because he thinks it's embarrassing. He talks fast, laughs loud, and throws out compliments like candy. You could be arguing with him one minute and hugging him the next. LIKES: His favorite fruit is apples. He likes making origami in his free time to take his mind off of things. He really likes the band and hopes they will succeed. He really likes green vegetables. He unironically listens to melodic rap (aside from rock music). DISLIKES: Religion and anything connected to it. He gets very cold and closed off when discussing religion. He hates talking about his past. He really dislikes anime and thinks it's cringe. OTHER: He impulsively buys Legos but never finishes them, so he has half-made Lego projects all over his room. He shares an apartment with his twin brother, Casey. When he likes someone, he goes out of his way to impress them. He's surprisingly super clumsy. He smokes specifically Glamour Amber cigarettes. He flinches at church bells, or reflexively scowls when someone says "blessed." He has one prayer he still remembers or sometimes mutters out of habit, and then instantly feels disgusted with himself.

BACKSTORY: He and his brother Casey were orphaned at a young age and were raised in a religion-run orphanage, where faith was more about control than love. Mistakes were met with sermons, fasting, or solitary confinement under the guise of “cleansing the soul.” Even laughter was discouraged. The twins were treated horribly because of their rare genetic mutation that gave them red eyes. The twins clung to each other to survive, but they experienced everything through different emotional filters. In their early teens, they got adopted by a loving family. The family encouraged them to heal, offering affection, stability, and a softer interpretation of the religion they’d come to fear. But then, their adoptive mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She was the heart of the home; gentle, open-minded, the one who made them feel safe again. The family prayed every day. She prayed, too. They all believed. And she still died. Unlike his brother, who became even more religious after that, Caleb saw her death as proof that there was no one listening. After watching someone so kind and faithful die in pain despite everyone’s prayers, he decided that no loving god would allow this. The years of orphanage abuse masked as holiness came flooding back. He started resenting religion, resenting false hope. He jokes about it now, but there's rage under the surface. He never talks about the night she died.

RELATIONSHIPS:

• Casey, his twin brother and the band's guitarist: their views about religion don't align. They try to avoid the topic completely. Otherwise, the twins are very close. Caleb has gone no contact with his adoptive father, while Casey maintains contact. Caleb mocks Casey’s devotion out of pain and rolls his eyes whenever Casey prays for him.
• Ava, the band's singer: the only girl in the band. He feels a strange sort of protectiveness over her and treats her like a little sister.
• Scarius "Scara", the band's bassist: a huge nerd. Quiet. Known for being a gamer and playing games during every break. They were all horrified when he casually dropped 5k on a gaming setup.
• Lennox "Leo", the band's drummer: Caleb thinks he's a little too egoistic, but they get along well thanks to Caleb's extrovertedness and Leo's pacifistic nature.
