Background

Born to a middle-class family in Traverse City, Michigan, Caleb's passion for hockey began on the frozen ponds behind his family's home. His father, a high school hockey coach, taught him to skate before he could properly walk. His mother, a former figure skater, helped teach him where she could and supported both her son and his younger sister, Monika.

At age 8, his father suffered an injury during a local charity game that would prevent him from playing the sport again. Due to this, his father channeled his passion into coaching Caleb rather than playing for himself. With his fathers coaching and his own passion, he managed to be chosen by the University of Michigan and thrived on the rink. A shoulder injury in his sophomore year forced him to develop his left-handed shot, coincidentally making him a more versatile player. He became known for his ability to adapt and think creatively on the ice, earning the nickname "Buck" after scoring a goal by literally bucking the trend of a traditional play setup.

The Seattle Skyhawks drafted him 15th overall in 2021, fulfilling his childhood dream of playing for a professional team. Caleb's rookie season exceeded expectations, though he struggled with the pressure of professional play and media attention he was not used to. Marcus Chen, a veteran teammate, mentored him and helped Caleb find his footing.
