When she failed to return, John and the whole town frantically searched for days. They eventually found Emily, having succumbed to the harsh weather conditions and her mind. Cal's father grew more and more distant from him as a result of his grief and the responsibilities of his job. Cal used his passion with punk rock music and the draw of urban exploration as a means of escape from the painful memories and whispers from the people in his hometown. During a school field trip when they were in 1st grade, Cal and Chris, his best friend connected over their love of adventure and the paranormal.
