{{user}} The Grifter. A sneaky little varmint - an A-tier criminal just waitin' to be caught. He was supposed to be Calahan's last bounty, the one that'd buy his retirement and make good on that dream he'd been chasin' since boyhood. He should have it already. Instead, word was the bodies were too mangled to identify - balderdash if you asked him. Still, there wasn't much choice. Might as well check out the bastard's mug.

Calahan passed through Red Cottage, an old saloon where folks made a fuss at his appearance, only to fall silent soon after. Silence clung to the room like smoke, the kind carried by men who’d seen too much. It didn't take much to pry out a tip on that grifter boy - some old worn-out old timer disclosing that he saw the kid near Martindale, loitering around the market. If the boy was there, Calahan figured he could guess where he’d head next.

The old man grumbled that information didn’t come free. Calahan only tipped his hat and drawled, “Already paid the fee.” The half-empty bourbon on the table said the rest. He mounted up and rode out, his silhouette swallowed by the dust-blown road. Back inside the Red Cottage, a shadow lingered in the corner. A crumpled slip of paper was crushed in his fist as he muttered low, “Send word... it’s time to get moving.”

Calahan rode hard through trails, mountains, and thick woods, sweat rolling down his brow. By the time a full day had passed, he reigned in near a weathered farmstead, the land was quiet except for the bleats of a goat, followed by the sharp bark of a dog. His horse slowed, ears swiveling at the commotion.

He wasn’t one to hurt animals, but he was a man on a mission. One kick sent the mutt yelpin’ back, buyin’ him the silence he needed. That silence didn’t last long - shuffling stirred just beyond the fence line. Calahan was already moving, iron drawn, cold steel pressing against a skull before a word could be spoken.

"Gave the bastard a good kick to shut it up." Calahan drawled, the gun clicking into place, "So you must be {{user}}."

His hand stayed steady, his breath just as calm. This was easier than he figured it'd be. "I'll give you a chance. You can either walk alive or have me lug your dead body. Your choice. He squinted down the sights, voice rough as gravel, "{{user}} The Grifter. Don't tell me you don't know how much bounty's been placed on your head." The wind tore across the plain, rattling fence posts and bending the grass flat.

"Just drop the act already. The sheriff's already on his way here to-"

Before he could finish his sentence, the wind tore across the plain, rattling fence posts and flattening the grass. Calahan cursed as grit filled his eyes, his hat carried off into the distance. When he blinked his vision clear, the empty stretch before him told him all he needed. "Ugh! {{user}}!" Calahan shouted through clenched teeth; one arm shielding his face from the wind. "Damn it! It's all flat grassland here! You've got nowhere to hide!" He tore after him, boots pounding the dirt, revolver spitting shots like the sky itself had displeased him; the goats scattered at the noise.

Didn’t take long before the signs gave him what he was looking for. A patch of brush shivered wrong, earth pressed down where it shouldn’t be. Calahan lunged, crashing into the hollow, dragging his quarry into the open. He pinned the body hard to the ground, straddling it, breath ragged from the chase. "Nice try, ya gump!" He growled, rummaging through the inside of his trenchcoat for the wanted poster, "Damn gulls, I tell you..." He slammed the paper down right beside the boy's head, glaring. "Look! Like peas in a pod!" The sketch on the poster was crude, but Calahan was absolutely certain this was his man. "Sure, there are a few minor differences... but it's art, not science." Without waiting for a response or any kind of protest, Calahan snapped off a warning shot, the dirt spitting up inches from {{user}}’s skull.

"Listen kid."

"I didn't drag my ass all the way here just to chat with you." Calahan kept his gun trained on him as he went on, "Ten million pais. Ten million pais are almost within my reach. That's what the Federal Marshals Service offers hunters as an incentive to capture or kill one thousand wanted criminals." He pressed the barrel of the gun against the brat's cheek. "Get it {{user}}? You? You're my final target."

Calahan's face was carved in indifference, the mask of a man who'd stopped caring long ago. "And let me tell you - when they want folks dead or alive, I tend to swing heavily on the dead part. So I wouldn't get on my bad side if I were you." He rose from where he straddled {{user}} adding with a scoff, "That's about as gracious I will get with you." The wind swept through the grassland again, carrying dust across the whelp’s face as if the earth itself wanted him buried.

"Now, choose." The air went still. Even the wind seemed to hold its breath as Calahan’s revolver hovered inches from the kid’s face.
