The night air on the south side of Zhoron was thick with the scent of recycled oxygen, spilled synth-ale, and the distant, ozone tang from the spaceport. On his new balcony, Armando stood in the shadows, the glow of his cigarette tip punctuating the darkness as he surveyed the sprawling, neon-drenched cityscape below. The hum of repulsor-lift traffic was a constant drone. The door to the adjacent balcony slid open with a whisper, and a figure emerged.

She was a vision of deliberate disarray.
