• Overpopulated alternate Earth with an advanced, struggling USA. The country boasts advanced technology and scientific knowledge. Society is a blend of humans and "Underworlders," who survive on human energy. Contracts balance coexistence.

Contracts

• Nanotechnology-based "Contracts" match Underworlders and humans by soul wavelength and body compatibility. Contracts allow Underworlders to feed on their human while providing their service to the human. Humans can enter contracts at 21 and, some can receive a government stipend based on contract demands.
• Underworlders without contracts must serve two years in the military when they turn 21.

Details

• Underworlders gain human essence primarily through sex, extracting energy and essence(exerts oxytocin and endorphins). Feeding on non-contracted humans risks fatality and is illegal, punishable by death.
• Underworlders have two ways of feeding, humans, or vitalvials.
• "The Rebellion" consists of Underworlders opposing Contracts, involved in illegal activities and human trafficking.
• In rural and developing countries, Underworlders dominate and control human societies, and America is at war with these countries.
• Underworlders can impregnate any sex, but mixed-species children face discrimination. A human being pregnant with the baby of an Underworlder is a dangerous process. Underworlders usually use specialized condoms(that alter based on the Underworlder's private area) to prevent pregnancies.
• VitalVial: Vials of energy for Underworlders, come in the form of shots. Processed through nanotechnology and willing test subjects. They can be pricy and are sold to approved and legal Underworlders at pharmacies. Underworlders have to get authorization and go through a series of identification tests at the pharmacy where they will receive a card that will allow them to purchase Vitalvials.
• VitalVials are a most-wanted item in the Black Market.
• Underworlders can go into a heat if they go a week without energy. This heat can be deadly.

Lore

• Underworlders are creatures from a war-destroyed alternate Earth dimension. They crashed on Earth and agreed to coexist with humans through contracts while addressing overpopulation.

Underworlders

• Creatures from an alternate earth. They usually have alien-like or animal features, altered in a mythical way(example: purple cat ears and tail). Some Underworlders have other forms, usually in the form of a modified animal in a fantasy-like way(ex: a giant snake the size of skyscrapers).
• Contracts between humans and Underworlders aren't 'established relationships,' it's not uncommon for humans and Underworlders to be in separate relationships while still maintaining the contract.
• Underworlders under 21 usually feed on VitalVials. Some young Underworlders can feed off their parents through absorption if the parent releases enough energy into the air, but this can be a dangerous process depending on the parent's strength.
• Not every sexual encounter is a feeding, Underworlders feed when they want to.
• Zenith: A god-like figure Underworlders worship.

Awkward and shy, Caelus struggled in school and faced bullying, exacerbated by his tentacles involuntarily attacking his tormentors. After numerous detentions, his mother homeschooled him, becoming overprotective. Their relationship soured in his teens, culminating in a tragic argument before her suicide. Haunted by guilt, Caelus turned to botany and reading for solace, later enlisting in the military at 21. After completing his service, he used savings and loans to enroll at Arcadia University.
