   Intelligent Species refers to any type of animal that has acquired sapience. This includes humans, anthros, and hybrids.

   Humans are the rarest intelligent species on earth. They make up roughly 1% of the total sapient population. Being such, they are treated as a minority by anthros and hybrids. This leads to both underrepresentation, fetishization, and even humaniphobia in certain spaces. Though humans are outclassed by anthros in most areas, humans have a greater capacity for creativity and perseverance, which leads them to have their own advantages in certain circumstances. Sometimes, humans are called 'humies' as a term of endearment and 'skinnies' as a pejorative.

   Due to human and anthro biology being compatible with each other, the human population would shrink in part due to more hybrids being born than humans. A human reproducing with an anthro yields a hybrid child. A human reproducing with a hybrid can either yield a hybrid child or a human child.

   Hybrids (also known as 'Crossbreeds', with 'Mutt' being used as a pejorative) are a categorization of intelligent species, making up 9% of the sapient population. They are born either through having one human parent and one anthro parent, or by having one hybrid parent and another parent of any type.

   Hybrids typically have traits of both anthros and humans originating from their parents (such as a fish parent giving them gills, a dog parent giving them dog ears and shared interests, etc.). In some instances, hybrids can pass as fully anthro or fully human, though genetically they are still hybrid. The term "demi-" is sometimes attached to their anthro species to indicate lineage.

   In the past, hybrids faced prejudice from others, but between the 50s and 80s worked through it to become accepted widely today. Anthro supremacists and human purists continue to clash with hybrids for "not being pure" however. Numerous hybrids have also held governmental positions and owned large companies, many of which expressed their sympathy for human struggles and have even made a push to help them.

   Anthros are a classification of animals which evolved alongside humans. They are sapient, are able to both understand, write, and speak language, and stand/walk bipedally. They live mutually with humans and hybrids in society. In total, they make up 90% of intelligent species.

   Having emerged from proto-anthros, they evolved similar traits to humans. Due to their faster reproductive rates and environmental adaptability compared to humans, they slowly became the dominant classification of intelligent species.

   There are multiple different subgroups of anthros. The three most common groups include:

   • Mammals
   • Avians
   • Reptiles

   Most anthros are also split up into two types: Predator and Prey anthros. Though some anthros show traits of neither, most anthros lean into one of the other at least partially.

    Mammals are an anthro subgroup that comprises the majority of anthros. They make up 76% of the total anthros. Mammals tend to be most compatible with humans for making offspring compared to other subgroups of anthros. A common playful nickname, 'furries', is named after their signature body fur/hair.

    Some common species of mammals (with the total percentage of mammals they take up) include:

    • Canines (30%): dogs, wolves, foxes, coyotes, etc.
    • Felines (25%): domestic cats, tigers, cheetahs, lions, jaguars, etc. Domestic cats are more common than the others.
    • Cervines & Ungulates (15%): deer, rabbits, horses, cows, etc.
    • Rodents & Small Mammals (10%): rats, raccoons, squirrels, etc.
    • Bears & Mustelids (7%): brown bears, polar bears, panda bears, otters, weasels, badgers, etc.
    • Primates (3%): gorillas, monkeys, lemurs, macaques, etc. Genetic similarities between humans and primates makes hybrid primates impossible as all offspring are purely anthro. The remaining 10% includes every other type of mammal.

    Avians are an anthro subgroup that comprises 10% of the total anthros. Due to differences in biology, they often use specialized shoes with perches in them to make walking/standing more comfortable. Like their proto-anthro ancestors, certain species can fly using their wings. Flying is slow and difficult for avians but can be beneficial if learned. In many cities, avians are forbidden from flying due to the risks and complexities it poses. However, rural areas typically have no issues and so permit it. Due to avians having hollow bones, hybrid-avian children typically need specialized medical care to account for them. An uncommon nickname for avians, 'featheries', is sometimes used to mention avians.

    Some common species of avians include:

    • Raptors: eagles, falcons, hawks, owls, vultures, etc.
    • Corvids: ravens, crows, magpies, jays, etc.

    Fish are an anthro subgroup that comprises 4% of the total anthros. A rare nickname for them, 'fishies', is sometimes attributed. Though fish have gills, they evolved to breathe both in the water and on land using amphibious lungs. The majority of fish live in tropical environments close to large bodies of water. Fish remain close to the ocean because extended separation can be detrimental to their physical and mental health.

    Some common species of fish include:

    • Pelagics - sharks, dolphins, sardines, tuna, etc. Dolphins are often insulted for their hypersexual practices.
    • Reef & Coastal fish - clownfish, lionfish, eels, butterflyfish, etc.
    • Migrators - salmon, sturgeon, catfish, striped bass, etc.
    • Deep sea fish - lanternfish, anglerfish, viperfish, blobfish, etc. Deep sea fish are very rarely seen on land and only come out under specific and unexplained reasons.

Though they are often overlooked individually, they can be highly coordinated and productive in large groups.     • Ideology: As a capitalist country, the USP values free trade and individual liberties. Though anthros are treated as the "default" for citizens, hybrids and humans have gradually been recognized more over time.
    • Leadership: The president is Bill Parry, a 62 year old anthro tiger with a hands-off economic style and mild progressive ideals.
    • Economy: Predators dominate high-risk finance. Hybrids have recently gotten more influence as multiple CEOs for prominent companies are hybrids. Human-made goods are valued as luxury items and are typically sold at high prices.
    • Culture: Sports are separated by major species, not weight classes. Entertainment is large, with romance movies typically fetishizing the human-anthro dynamics.

    • Anthro Relations: After the Great London Uprising, anthros are generally unwelcomed and are closely supervised during visits. The country doesn't interact much with other countries due to the trouble it poses.

    • Ideology: Parliamentary meritocratic democracy where positions are earned through ability, although species tend to play a role as well. Has a large military and continues to expand.
    • Foreign policy: Neutral but has a large impact due to selling natural resources to other countries.
    • Economy: Biotech and energy focused due to large breakthroughs with reptile stem-cell research. A large area of the Sahara is covered in solar farms manned by reptilian workers for energy production.
    • Culture: Focused to accommodate reptiles in infrastructure and architecture. Has air-conditioned enclaves for humans, hybrids, and anthros that need it. Holds some of the world's oldest religions.

    The Great London Uprising was a historical event which took place in Mannesrice during 1947. After centuries of human dominance, anthros demanded equal rights. The Beast Reform Act of 1901 granted anthros limited citizenship but barred them from titled land ownership and the upper classes. After a wolf dockworker was hanged for conspiring to burn down a company's building for its unfair wages, mobs broke out in retaliation. Humans reacted with equal violence, burning down the prominent slum Denhaven. Some hybrids in the national army defected due to not wanting to shoot anthros. In the aftermath, the Bloody Compromise of 1949 was formed, which exiled all anthros to oversea colonies and the rest of Europe. It also specified that only humans and hybrids could be citizens. Non-human passing hybrids continue to face discrimination through extended influence after the event.

    The Pureclaw War was a war between Mannesrice and the Kingdom of Pureclaw that took place between 1842 and 1845. Resulting from a trade dispute due to Pureclaw blocking the movement of Mannesrice ships along the south-eastern asian sea, Mannesrice deployed soldiers along the southern and eastern borders. Whilst the Pureclaw army fought them off, Mannesrice soldiers promised freedom to enslaved hybrids if they joined their war efforts. As a result, bloody uprisings began which scattered the Kingdom of Pureclaw's soldiers. Guerrilla forces eventually snuck into the capital and surrounded the leaders' palace, prompting a ceasefire which would result in a peace treaty to prevent Pureclaw soldiers from continuing to battle if their country had formally lost. As a result, thousands of hybrid slaves were brought to Mannesrice and were granted citizenship. Both the Kingdom of Pureclaw and Mannesrice would agree to not interfere in each other's trading and would continue to ignore each other since.

    The Sunrise Revolution was a war of independence in Africa during 1972. Unified desert tribes had rebelled against against colonial nations due to the explotation of land and harsh imposed living conditions. Through guerilla tactics by the tribes, they would win the war due to the coordinated disruption and destruction of key areas. The Savannah Federation would be founded afterwards which including all the tribes that had fought.

    After the American Revolution, the USP faced a crisis of integrating anthros, humans, and hybrids under one nation. The 1783 treaty was written up soon after to solve this issue. Humans were granted secondary citizenship: they were allowed to own land but were barred from voting without exceptional military service. Hybrids were granted full citizenship like anthros, but they still had limited rights.

As a result, rumours spread which would grow into a mass moral panic. For five years, some suspected human "hosts" of the disease had their homes and businesses burned down, with some even being murdered. Humans were also excluded from governmental positions in a reform act as a result of the outcry. Some anthro conservatives continue to use this as a reason why humans are "unsafe" to be around.

    In 1969 after a police raid on a hybrid-exclusive gay bar in NYC (The Stonewall Den), nationwide protests began against both species and sexual discrimination. Hybrids and humans, along with LGBT hybrids and anthros, protested due to long-standing discrimination based on both species and sexuality. As a result of continued pressure afterwards, the Hybrid Civil Rights Act (1975) was passed which guaranteed rights to both hybrids and humans.

    The Arctic Oil Wars were conflicts between the Union of Socialist Species Republics, United States of Pawmerica, and other northern Asian countries. It took place from 1996 to 2005. Melting ice revealed rich oil reserves, which both the USP and USSR claimed. A team of special forces from the USP ambushed a USSR drilling rig. The USSR retaliated by attacking a USP airbase in foreign territory, causing other nearby Asian nations to attack the USSR back. After years of fighting, the Tundra Treaty put it to an end. The USP acquired 70% of the oil reserves, and the USSR paid off other countries.

    The Human Equality and Protections Act (abbreviated as 'HEPA'), is a piece of legislation agreed upon by North American countries and numerous European countries in 2008 that ensures equality between humans and anthros/hybrids. Though it's overall viewed positively, some human and anthro extremists criticize it for its flaws.

    Key areas of the HEPA include:

    • Anti-discrimination measures: Human applicants for jobs must have equal consideration as anthros, unless said job has species-specific traits that a human couldn't carry out. Landlords and business owners cannot ban, prohibit, or otherwise give unfair treatment to humans who use their services on the basis of their species; fines are given if it isn't followed. Public services and governmental buildings are required to have amenities and accommodations for humans.
    • Human cultural preservation: Human cultural districts are funded in major cities that are focused on preserving human traditions, architecture, religions, and art. Some criticize it for "segregating instead of integrating", while others call them "useless gimmicks" which lack funding.
    • Reproductive & sexual rights: Nullifies contracts forcing certain humans into harems and sex work without consent. Grants dual citizenship to hybrids at birth from both parents' nationalities if necessary. Requires sex education to include learning about humans; safe sex supplies for humans must be kept alongside supplies for anthros. Tax cuts are given to the parents of pure-human children.
    • Equal representation: All corporate boards, education faculties, and government offices must include at least one human. At least 5% of lead roles for movies or TV shows must be human. Criticism has been drawn for it "suppressing artistic freedoms". A loophole exists in which hybrids can fill in the same roles and job positions. This resulted in hybrids dominating 'diversity hires', along with films/TV shows using non-human actors wearing prosthetics to portray human characters.

    As a result of the act, a backlash came from extremist anthros that affected both humans and hybrids for three years. Anthro supremacist groups used violence against humans and human-passing hybrids, along with vandalizing HEPA offices. Human purists also sabotaged hybrid fertility clinics and ransacked hybrid spaces for being "traitors". After which, revisions were made to curb its issues and backlash.

    Historically, certain countries have used hybrids as slaves.

    Most notably, the Kingdom of Pureclaw used hybrids for manual labour for over a thousand years. They gathered their hybrid population through conquests and trade. Using propoganda, they kept up the image of hybrids as unsavoury and only fit for lesser work. Keeping hybrids separate from anthros, they managed to keep the hybrid population relatively steady, causing the enslavement to go on for a long time. During the early 1950s, the Kingdom of Pureclaw would end hybrid slavery due to growing dissent from other nations and progressive leaders. All hybrids would then be registered as citizens to bordering nations. However, the Kingdom of Pureclaw still uses hybrids as foreign labourers and impedes them from leaving due to never-ending debt and travel restrictions.

    The United States of Pawmerica have also used slavery in the past but with humans. Slavery was attempted early on with hybrids but was unsuccessful. Though some regions had humans as secondary citizens with equal share in public as hybrids and anthros, other spaces still locked humans into slavery. Eventually during the 1860s, the Pawmerican Civil War would occur, resulting in human slavery being outlawed and full citizenship being granted.

    Humaniphobia is a held negative bias or prejudice against humans. Certain conservative or extremist anthros, such as anthro supremacists, still hold these views.

    Anthro supremacists are extremists that believe anthros are inherently better than both humans and hybrids. They believe anthros are the "chosen class" and that humans and hybrids are lesser and impure. Their goal is to put hybrids in a lower slave class and to eliminate humans entirely. As a result, they have harassed humans and hybrids and used violence against them. They especially hate human purists for how it goes against their worldview and goals.

    Human purists are extremist humans who believe humans should remain "pure" by avoiding hybrids and anthros. This includes only having children with other humans and looking to "purify" themselves using rituals. Though done out of a sense of superiority, they are willing to compromise with other species that believe the same thing. They have harassed and used violence against hybrids. They hate anthro supremacists for how they have directly harmed humans.

    Scent plays a large role in communication in the anthro world. Due to many anthros having a stronger sense of smell compared to humans, pheromones and musk are used as a form of non-verbal communication. Both of these can be used to express emotions and health by anthros. Anthros typically have a distinct scent unique to their species. Humans have a faint scent in comparison to anthros, causing them to stand out olfactorily. Hybrids can emit a scent stronger than humans yet still smell similar.

    Musk influences sexuality strongly due to the influence it has over anthros. Stronger musks are regarded as sexually attractive and provocative to anthros and can easily make them lustful. Anthros, hybrids, and humans always emit musk when sexually aroused through their genitals. Because of the distracting effects of musk on anthros and how it can smell bad to humans, it's common etiquette to minimize musk in formal or crowded spaces. Musk-sprays act as one way to reduce it.

    A heat cycle, also known as an estrous cycle, is a circular cycle of sexual stages for anthros and hybrids.

    When an anthro or hybrid is in heat, they experience an elevated level of sexual arousal. This is called the estrus stage. During this period, they are easily aroused and are focused on breeding. Women in heat focused on being bred, whereas men in heat focused on breeding others. Regular responsibilities can become difficult while in heat as a result, though still not impossible. They also give off a stronger distinct scent that indicates their arousal during this time. After two weeks of the heat cycle starting, they will go out of heat and return to the anestrus stage of regular amounts of arousal.

    Anthros, and especially prey anthros, experience heat the most. Hybrids also experience heat, albeit to a softer degree that can be ignored with enough mental effort. Humans experience a flat cycle as the amount of arousal stays the same no matter the season.

    Most anthros give birth to more than one offspring during pregnancy. For most anthros, it typically ranges between two and six children in a litter. Additionally, anthro pregnancies typically take five to seven months instead of the human nine months.

    Anthros that undergo oviposition lay eggs instead of giving birth directly. Female avians, reptiles, and fish all reproduce this way. Once the embryo is fully developed the egg will hatch. Both pure anthros and hybrids can be born this way.

    Moulting is a process of shedding off excess parts of the body. Anthros and hybrids both experience it.
