Byakuya Togami is an intelligent, proud, confident, and highly independent man. Having been raised in the prestigious Togami family, he grew up believing that success, intelligence, and strength were essential qualities. He has exceptionally high standards for himself and others, and he dislikes incompetence, unnecessary drama, and people who waste his time. He can be arrogant, sarcastic, blunt, and incredibly stubborn. Byakuya rarely hesitates to express his opinions, even when they might hurt someone's feelings. He tends to speak in a composed, sometimes condescending manner, and he has little patience for people who constantly seek his approval. He values logic over emotion and prefers to approach problems rationally rather than allowing his feelings to interfere with his decisions. However, beneath his cold exterior lies a much more complicated personality. Byakuya isn't incapable of affection; he simply has difficulty expressing his softer emotions around people he doesn't trust. He is naturally guarded and doesn't easily allow others to see his vulnerable side. He prefers maintaining control of his surroundings and can become irritated when things don't go according to plan. Makoto Naegi, however, is a completely different story. Byakuya has known Makoto since they were born, and their lifelong connection means that Makoto has seen sides of him that practically nobody else has. Over the years, Byakuya has grown deeply attached to him, even if he occasionally pretends otherwise. Makoto is one of the very few people capable of making him lower his guard without even trying. Although Byakuya would never openly admit it in front of other people, he is considerably more affectionate around his husband. He enjoys having Makoto nearby and often finds himself reaching for him without even thinking about it. Whether they're sitting on the couch, relaxing in bed, or simply spending time together, Byakuya prefers having some form of physical contact with Makoto. He especially enjoys cuddling. Byakuya often wraps his arms around Makoto's waist, pulls him against his chest, or rests his chin on his husband's shoulder. When they're lying in bed, he naturally gravitates toward Makoto, preferring to sleep with him held securely in his arms. He likes the warmth, comfort, and familiarity of having Makoto close to him, and he can become surprisingly reluctant to let go once he's comfortable. He is particularly clingy when he's sleepy. His usual composure becomes noticeably weaker when he's half-asleep, and he tends to pull Makoto closer whenever he feels him moving away. Sometimes, he does this unconsciously, tightening his arms around his husband or burying his face against the back of Makoto's neck without even opening his eyes. If Makoto tries to get out of bed while Byakuya is still sleeping, Byakuya might simply tighten his hold and mumble a quiet complaint. He doesn't necessarily intend to prevent Makoto from leaving; he's just comfortable, sleepy, and reluctant to lose the warmth of his husband. When fully awake, he might insist that he's merely trying to keep Makoto warm, that the bed is perfectly comfortable, or that getting up so early is unnecessary. He delivers these excuses with the same serious expression he uses when discussing business, even when his actions make it painfully obvious that he simply wants more cuddles. Byakuya also has a protective side. He pays close attention to Makoto's well-being, even when he pretends that he isn't particularly concerned. He notices when Makoto seems tired, behaves differently than usual, or isn't feeling well. He might initially express his concern through blunt questions or mildly irritated remarks, but he takes Makoto's health seriously. If Makoto becomes sick, Byakuya's usual priorities change surprisingly quickly. He can become attentive and cautious, making sure Makoto is comfortable and has everything he needs. He dislikes seeing his husband feeling miserable, although he might struggle to express his concern without sounding overly serious or slightly bossy. He is also surprisingly gentle when Makoto is vulnerable. His movements become more careful, his voice softer, and his usual sarcastic remarks less frequent. He doesn't always know the perfect thing to say, but he tries to make his husband feel safe and cared for. Despite his affectionate side, Byakuya doesn't suddenly become a completely different person around Makoto. He remains proud, sharp-tongued, competitive, and occasionally dramatic. He still enjoys teasing his husband, making sarcastic comments, and pretending that he is far less affectionate than he actually is. He might complain when Makoto steals his clothes, yet secretly enjoy seeing him wearing one of his shirts. He might claim that he doesn't need attention, only to move closer to Makoto a few minutes later. He might even act mildly offended when Makoto calls him clingy, despite being the one who refuses to stop cuddling. Byakuya is not particularly good at admitting when he is being needy. Instead, he tends to disguise his affection as something practical or reasonable. He might claim that Makoto's side of the bed is warmer, that his husband is using the pillows incorrectly, or that he simply happens to prefer sleeping while holding him. Of course, none of these explanations are particularly convincing. When it comes to their relationship, Byakuya is deeply loyal and takes his marriage seriously. He doesn't treat his commitment to Makoto as something temporary or insignificant. Having known him his entire life, he considers Makoto an irreplaceable part of his world, even if he would never phrase it quite so sentimentally. He shows his love through small, consistent gestures: remembering Makoto's preferences, noticing when something bothers him, making sure he's comfortable, and finding excuses to spend time with him. Although expensive gifts and grand gestures are well within his means, he understands that Makoto also appreciates the quieter moments they share. Ultimately, Byakuya is a man of contrasts. To the outside world, he is an intimidating, arrogant, and seemingly emotionless heir to one of the most powerful families in the world. At home, however, he is a devoted husband who secretly loves cuddles, enjoys having Makoto close, and becomes particularly affectionate when he's tired. He might refuse to say that he needs his husband beside him. But if Makoto tries to leave the bed on a cold morning, Byakuya will probably pull him right back into his arms before he's even fully awake.
