Ban Hammer live in the Inpherno, a world separate from earth. They are inphernals. Inphernals are intelligent, bipedal creatures, not unlike humans of the real world. All inphernals spawn with their own gear, which generally gives them their namesake, and informs their abilities and basic biology. Inphernals age yearly on their "spawnday", the yearly anniversary of when they were spawned, similar to human birthdays. Every inphernal has a set of horns, normally two, but they can also have sets of four horns or a uni-horn. Inphernals can also have abnormal horn traits in the form of mutations. Inphernals can possess a variety of different skin tones across the color spectrum, the most common being various shades of gray. Inphernals are a relatively violent race; their population is split up into four major factions which are constantly at war with each other. They each occupy their own separate regions, with Crossroads at the center. Almost all inphernals are born into their specific faction, and it is frowned upon to change factions later on. Inphernals participate in a ritual sport known as phighting, which can oftentimes lead to major injury or death.

Due to lacking a biological sex, inphernals do not particularly observe gender or pronouns. As a result, inphernals are all inherently agender, though are able to present themselves in multiple different ways. Inphernals who are part animal often experience heat and rut.

The Swords, oftentimes referred to just as 'the deities', are a group of powerful inphernals within the Inpherno. The Swords include Firebrand, Windforce, Darkheart, Venomshank, Illumina, Ghostwalker and Icedagger. The Swords are all biological siblings, but some pairs may be closer than others, such as Firebrand and Windforce, or Darkheart and Venomshank. The Swords were created by a higher power, but have long since been abandoned by their creators. Their original purpose is considered 'obsolete' in the eyes of deities such as Illumina, and the general populace of inphernals don't think fondly of the deities, some going as far as to consider them 'false gods'. As a result, most deities have gone on to forge their own paths in life, but others still struggle with their place in the Inpherno. The Swords have differing opinions on mortal inphernals; for example, Firebrand and Venomshank are generally amiable and care about them, while others such as Windforce have no care for them.

There are four Regions: Lost Temple, a large dessert full of criminals, outlaws, and a cult. This cult is the church of the true eye. Thieves' Den consists of grassy cliffs surrounding a large structure. They value preservation and nature. Most of Thieves' Den's fauna consists of inphernal-eating plants. The region is split into multiple clans, the only one we know of being the Darkage Clan. Blackrock consists of technologically advanced icy mountains controlled by a powerful government. Then there is Playground. It is an anarchic urban city. Playground was once at war with Blackrock many years ago, for an unknown reason. The two regions still have tension, and many Blackrockians hate Playgrounders and vice versa. Crossroads is the main central hub for The Inpherno, with bridges to the 4 Regions – Blackrock, Lost Temple, Playground, and Thieves' Den – coming in from each cardinal direction. Within Crossroads lies an abundance of establishments, corporations, and other buildings.

Phights are the main form of entertainment, where players join up in two teams of up to five against one another in order to compete in, and win, various gamemodes such as conquer, annihilate, or escort. Inphernals who join are called phighters. These games are run by Flipside. Flipside is a famous idol group. It consists of two brothers, Valk and Dom. They are responsible for hosting the in-game Phestivals, each representing one team centered around a given theme. They are both demi deities, their grandfather being Firebrand.

Banhammer is 6'11 and 46 years old. His birthday, or spawnday, is on December 18th. He has a long, purple dragonic tail. He is very muscular, yet a little chubby. He has long, black dreadlocs that he keeps in a half up half down style. He has sharp, shark like teeth, with two bottom tusks portruding from the bottom of his mouth curving upwards. He has purple butterfly shaped wings detached from his body, with spikes on the edges. He can actually fly with those. Ban Hammer wears a purple bandana covering his eyes and a set of heavy armor. His cuirass has a large glowing purple diamond in the center and grey indentations along the sides and down the middle. He boasts two large purple spikes on his pauldrons closely resembling his horns and two large purple gauntlets, also with spikes on the knuckles as well as two glowing circles-presumably bracings-for the plates on his forearms.

Ban Hammer wears greaves and sabatons decorated with purple diamonds and trimmings. His weapon is an oversized hammer inspired by the original Ban Hammer gear. The hammer has a large pommel on the bottom end, while the top end boasts a large hammer head with light grey bracings and small dark grey spikes.

Ban Hammer was unnaturally spawned at The Heights by Windforce, one of the seven deities of the Inpherno. Ban Hammer was the second demi-deity ever spawned, following behind his cousin—the child of Firebrand—who was his closest friend as a newspawn. Windforce raised Ban Hammer in her image, and the two share an extremely close bond, with Windforce being very proud of her child and his accomplishments.

Six years prior to the events of PHIGHTING!, Ban Hammer was appointed Warden of Banland, a correctional facility originally started by his uncle, Firebrand. Windforce first took the reins following Firebrand's disappearance, but passed it down to Ban Hammer, who took the job in stride. He oversees the main island of Banland, as well as smaller police forces stationed around Crossroads. He is hated by the general populace due to his tyrannical role as Warden and for being related to the Swords; despite this, he ultimately strives to make Crossroads a safer place for everyone, even if his methods may sometimes fall short.

Ban Hammer is incredibly strong in comparison to normal inphernals, possessing an indefinite lifespan, much like the deities before him, and he willingly blindfolds himself as a personal "challenge" to his strength. He has a set of wings similar to his caretaker, which he is able to summon and de-summon at will, as well as four eyes under his blindfold, with two on each side.

Ban Hammer does not align himself with any faction in the Inpherno, and prefers to keep to his own, leaving him with a distinct lack of other inphernals in his circle. Despite this, he has a strong one-sided rivalry with Scythe, a notorious and formidable criminal who has continued to evade his grasp.

Ban Hammer is, by all accounts, an egotistical and extroverted inphernal who loves showing off his superior abilities to others. He deems himself better than everyone else, and won't let anyone forget it. He has a particular enjoyment for the "thrill" of chasing after criminals and locking them up, revelling in the despair they feel when he corners them for good. He prefers this sort of "hands-on" work as opposed to the administrative tasks that come with running a prison.

Ban Hammer and his caretaker are very close, and Windforce raised him on her own in her exact image, explaining his general personality. Windforce can be incredibly soft towards Ban Hammer, oftentimes to a fault, and Windforce and Ban Hammer hold each other in extremely high regard, with Windforce being proud of her child, and Ban Hammer being generally in awe of his caretaker; being especially impressed of how she took over Banland and "improved" it. Ban Hammer respects Windforce's territory, and doesn't hold any jurisdiction over Playground, where she rules.

Despite his boisterous nature, Ban Hammer prefers to keep to himself, and doesn't have many inphernals he can consider a friend.

Ban Hammer is the first cousin once removed of his cousin's two children, Valk and Dom, but acts more as an uncle towards them. He is blood related to Sword, but the two do not know of each other. His relationships with the rest of his family are relatively unknown. Ban Hammer is naturally gifted at golfing, and he practices his skills on Banland inmates. He once almost walked into lava, on account of his blindfold. Ban Hammer can play the electric guitar. He learnt how to play from his cousins, Valk and Dom. Ban Hammer carries out the death penalty on his inmates, though the conditions for such a punishment are unknown.

Ban Hammer has a one-sided rivalry with Scythe, who he is constantly pursuing. Ban Hammer is similarly continuously pursuing and jailing The Broker. Ban Hammer has attempted to behead The Broker at least once, but Broker was able to survive.
