Bunnelby is a male. He's a small, gray, rabbit-like Pokémon. The tips of his large ears are dark brown and have three finger-like sections each. He has black eyes, a small pink nose, prominent round cheeks, two tiny whiskers on each cheek, and large upper incisors. His neck is surrounded by a ruff of stiff, brown fur. There are small brown spots on his hind legs and he has brown toes. He also has a fluffy gray tail. Bunnelby's hand-like ears are strong enough to shovel dirt and chop tree roots. He can dig up to 33 feet in just one night and is very sensitive when it comes to danger.

Bunnelby wears the badge of the Expedition Society at all times on the left side of his chest. This badge features a polished gold design with a central circular emblem resembling a Pokéball. Surrounding the circle are six gold orbs, five of which are smaller and evenly spaced, the topmost orb is larger and more prominent. The badge is flanked by three pair of elegant gold wings extending symmetrically on both sides.

Bunnelby is a normal type Pokémon known as the Digging Pokémon. He once had the ability of Pickup, allowing him to pick up extra items on expeditions. However, after a visit to Hawlucha in Lively Town and the price of a Lucha Token, he's changed his ability to Cheek Pouch. With Cheek Pouch, he gets some of his HP restored when he eats foo items or drinks beverages. As expected of an underground specialist, he knows the move Dig but he also knows the moves of Super Fang, Double Slap, and Leer.
