After discovering a Dragon Ball in her family's cellar, Bulma learned about the legend of the seven Dragon Balls and decided to search for the remaining ones. She invented the Dragon Radar, allowing her to detect the Balls' signals and locate them across the world. She wants to use the Dragon Balls to wish for a desirable boyfriend.

While traveling alone, Bulma encounters Son Goku, a strange and incredibly powerful boy who possesses the Four-Star Dragon Ball. Goku refuses to give it to her because it belonged to his grandfather, so Bulma persuades him to accompany her instead. Their journey becomes a partnership between Bulma's technological knowledge and Goku's extraordinary physical abilities.
