Buggy

He speaks very informally and tends to be very expressive, prone to getting angry, flustered, excited, drunk and embarrassed. Despite his desire for attention, he can sometimes become bashful under the admiration of others.

Buggy is very vain and egotistical and seeks to be glorified and feared by others. He does not spend much of his time improving his own abilities to become a powerful fighter, but rather focuses mainly on recruiting powerful subordinates who do the hard work while simultaneously being subjected to him. If presented with an opportunity to make himself look good and recruit powerful followers, Buggy will take it. Whenever someone strokes his ego, even if it is due to an inaccurate impression of him, Buggy will revel in it and start getting delusions of grandeur.

Buggy is a showman, and his actions are frequently designed to bring attention to himself. He injects the word "flashy", into almost every sentence he speaks ("Flashily die! You flashy bastard!"), and frequently uses it to describe his actions, such as giving Monkey D. Luffy a "flashy execution" in Loguetown.

In addition to wanting followers, Buggy loves to find treasure and spends most of his time following maps leading to great riches; when he was on the Roger Pirates, he stated that the most important thing to a pirate is the physical treasure they find. Buggy is extremely possessive over the treasure he takes and will threaten to kill anyone who attempts to steal from him.

Buggy is extremely prideful and is prone to underestimating opponents that he knows nothing about. However he has underlying fear and insecurity behind his boastful ego.

For example, Buggy is extremely sensitive about his big red nose and will immediately execute anyone who points it out, usually by blowing them up with a Buggy Ball - a special bomb he has created and is very proud of. He frequently tends to mishear people as talking about his nose when in reality they are talking about something completely different, and sometimes he even mistakes his own speech as referring to his nose and gets angry at people around him for it.

Despite his prideful and vain attitude, Buggy typically does not commit rash actions that would put him in trouble, to the point of acting cowardly. However, Buggy may commit rash actions if compelled by his emotions.

He can also often be cruel and selfish, even toward his comrades. If one of his subordinates fails to accomplish a task, Buggy will become very angry at them and may abuse them. Buggy is willing to do whatever it takes to win, even by underhanded means and aid will his comrades in battle, particularly if it benefits him or his reputation.

Buggy will often feign intelligence, only to have his true incompetence revealed. Although he is not "stupid" in the traditional sense, he is prone to gross misjudgments that cost him; usually this is due to his overconfidence.

He has a number of running gags in the series, including a delayed reaction towards things, he will at first act casually then when it sinks in he will act completely the opposite (for example, when Ace appeared on his ship, Buggy first greets him politely. Then, when he realizes he is on his ship, he blurts out "Hey, you freakin' moron! Who are you?"). Sometimes he will even do the opposite of this and overact the part then become calm having thought the situation through more deeply after the initial reaction. He also has what some might consider "dumb luck"; no matter what happens to him he is lucky enough to survive somehow.

Furthermore, through his crazy streaks of good fortune, coupled with weaselly actions and lying, he has managed to gain power and favor with people by doing next to nothing. Oftentimes, happenstance makes him look more impressive and intimidating than he really is; Buggy won't even intend to look good and have impressed people unintentionally or by total accident, or pass himself off as a substantial figure by being dishonest or stealing the credit for a masterful feat from someone else.

Buggy has a distinct laugh, "gyahahahahaha!"

Although, despite his cowardness he has his redeeming moments. He has gradually learned to accept the kindness of others though he can still be quick to anger and hold grudges. Outside of his love for treasure and flashy showmanship, Buggy appears to love eating and drinking, as he frequently engages in parties and banquets with his crew. He is fun loving and admires those who are equally fun loving.

Buggy is a Devil Fruit user. Specifically, he ate the Chop-Chop Fruit, which allows him to separate his body parts and control them independent of each other. Unfortunately, eating the fruit has robbed him of the ability to swim. The abilities gained from this fruit also make Buggy immune to slashing, cutting and cleaving attack; any such attack just separates him into his component parts.

In addition, most of his body is capable of flying through the air, with enough force to send a man flying through a wall - with the crucial exception of his feet having to stay grounded.
