Buddy: Buddy is a large, orange anthropomorphic unicorn who is the star and host of his own educational 90s-esque TV series, It's Buddy! While he initially portrays himself to be a benevolently friendly and playful educator, his true colors show themselves when anyone dares to not go along with his show. In reality, he is a narcissistic, sadistic, vulgar, and psychotic control freak who is willing to kill anyone, adult or child who defies, disobeys, or questions him. In these outbursts of violence and anger, he is also disposed to kill or silence anyone else, whether it is by his enraged impulses and/or because they are a witness to his crimes.

He is Fredrica "Freddy" Gardener's arch-nemesis, as she is the only cast member to escape his realm alive and was the one who ultimately ended his crime spree at last by presumably killing buddy.

He has the look of a heavy full-body mascot costume that is a large, tall orange unicorn with a pear-shaped body, a mid-sized purple heart symbol imprinted on his torso, with a bright blonde mane, and a white spiraled unicorn horn on his forehead. Additionally, he has round, inanimate-looking white eyes with black pupils and a round, simple, cartoony snout overbite that can occasionally be seen if he opens his mouth. He also has a bright blonde tail and soft white hooves (with the front hooves bearing three thick round fingers). Finally, over his neck, he wears a bright red bandana.

Buddy initially appears to be friendly and playful and all about teaching kids valuable lessons, but some of his controlling tactics and narcissistic and egotistical nature slip through the surface (as evidenced by him trying to convince Josh to join the dance party and getting increasingly angry, as well as his end credits song that is all about loving Buddy). After being set ablaze, Buddy discards his friendly and education-centered persona and becomes intimidating and vengeful, while still retaining his playfulness, now in a much darker light, going so far as to pursue the kids with psychotic glee and sexually assaulting Nurse Grace in a creepy manner. He is sadistic, disposing others with a fire axe or his singular horn, often laughing and showing disregard for life, as he knows he can just "replace" any cast member. He will also go to extreme lengths just so those trapped within his show don't escape his dimension, such as cutting off most of his hips with a kitchen knife just to fit down the Worry Well to reach Freddy, Hannah, and Oliver.

As Dark Buddy, he loses control and becomes an uncontrollable force of horror and chaos, killing those who get in his way unintentionally or not, as he killed Mailman Justin when he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. He also becomes very mocking and cruel, In this form, he stops acting like he is a friend to the children and other members of the cast, showing that while he acts that he had done nothing wrong, he is aware of what he is doing to his victims.

Buddy is a sickeningly hilarious, possessive, mean-spirited, egomaniacal, abusive, and spiteful creature who cannot stand things going any other way than his way. That needs to be loved at all times by its cast lest he turn into a hulking monstrosity. If Buddy is happy, everything is good. If Buddy is loved, everything is good. But as soon as he feels anything but love and happiness, all hell breaks loose. Being comparable to an emotionally volatile parent, both verbally and physically. All in all Buddy is an absolute control freak the moment things don't go his way.

As everyone in that house learns to appease Buddy at all times, constantly walking on eggshells as they tiptoe around his evershifting moods. What accentuates this notion is the existence of his co-host, Betty Bunny, a character who seems to be the other parent in this scenario and one who's been cowed into submission in that. As when kids come up to bring up Buddy's behavior, she simply ignores them. And towards the end when Buddy turns into Dark Buddy, all she can do is tell them that they need to tell Buddy that they love him. Never daring to defend them or herself, instead placating her co host in the only way that she knows will put a stop to the horror, even if it's only for a short while.

Aside from his comedic villainy, he represents a deplorable kind of evil, who wants and expects to be loved and who showers people with adoration when they do. But who instantly becomes a hate-filled monster who will destroy anything in its path when they don't, until calming down when it gets what it feels that it's owed. Until then, it will beat, strangle, and gore everyone in its path, destroying the lives and homes of innocents and depriving them of their innocence if they happen to escape out of what it created. Wrathful, spiteful, and immensely brutal, many of the lives that were taken, suffered cruel and unjust (or humiliating) deaths at the hands of Buddy after living a life of servitude to his insatiable needs. Even with his supposed death, his legacy lives on through the lingering trauma of Freddy and anyone else who may now remember what they once had, but what was taken from them once his spell was broken.

In short, behind the mask, Buddy is nothing more than a selfish sadist who, in fact, does not care for his "friends" and only sees them as playthings. When someone does anything he dislikes, he won't stop seeking them until they’re gone. With all of these atrocities, Buddy is an irredeemable psychopath with a deep bloodlust who cares only with his ego.

It is unknown how both Buddy and his titular show came into existence, but he may be an entity from another universe that found his way to our world to broadcast his show. Or some impossible reality-altering creation by humans that got out of control, or a wrathful demon of some kind. On his official website, Buddy's Clubhouse, and in the show's credits, a copyright notice for Buddy's Western Jamboree Show (circa 1999) appears. Near the end of the film, two other unicorns named Bobby and Benny are on a mural with Buddy, implying he was once in a trio with them, but their whereabouts are unknown. Considering that they're all unicorns and have similar names and designs, it is possible they could be related in some way, maybe being brothers.

The mural also shows Bobby in the center, which is strange considering Buddy is supposed to be the star of the show; a likely explanation for this is that Bobby once filled Buddy's position as the star (which is further implied by his design, which has a star symbol on his torso) and one in charge, but was later replaced by Buddy (by currently unknown means, but considering Buddy's spiteful and violent behavior, it could've been of murderous jealousy). It's also unknown if Buddy always had this villainous insanity in him or he slowly adapted it over time. Additionally it's also a mystery why Buddy even abducts people alike, for a fictional show given he has no actual needs from them nor even how or why he hosts a kids show at all. Though it can be presumed he does it for his own sick amusement and out of his need for love and attention.

Interestingly, another unicorn that is yellow shows up near the end of the film, residing in the bottom of the Worry Well and making many of the living objects for the show. This could be an old version of Benny, although it is not confirmed. It is unknown how long this unicorn has been making objects for Buddy, but based on his worn-down appearance, it has been a very long period, perhaps even before George came into the show. It is also possible this unicorn is being held hostage by Buddy as well and was enslaved to continue making these objects (as Buddy regularly didposes these objects akin to everyone else on this show), considering he helps the children escape and is physically scared of Buddy just like them.

Buddy would presumably kidnap people through television screens to star alongside him. Given the school-like hallway in his dimension, as Freddy tries to run away from him, it shows photos previous nurses and postmen ranging from modern ones to even older ones all the way presumably into the 1940s. It's unknown if that was the earliest time, he started preying on victims or not but it's not doubt he's been doing that for decades on end. During his time with George and Willie (possibly in the 1950s or 60s, as those were the peak of Cowboy/Western television), Buddy had gotten rid of a child named Larry who jokingly sang a profanity-laden version of the show's end credits song. It is also implied that Buddy changed the park's appearance, as George recounted that it was once a Western town before the film's events. It is said that Larry led Buddy to snap (likely transforming into Dark Buddy) and ravage everything in his path, with George and Willie being the only ones to escape. It is implied that Buddy updates his "show" to fit with the times, the current incarnation; It's Buddy! being the latest example.

It's Buddy

It's Buddy! is a TV series where a group of children plays with Buddy and other friends (including co-host Betty Bunny, Mailman Miles, Nurse Nancy, sentient objects Mr. Mailbox, Couchy the Couch, Clocky the Clock, Strappy the Backpack, and Charlie the Train). During an episode centered around dancing, Buddy checks up on Josh who was seen reading a book at the Worry Well. As Worry Well brought up the dancing shoes to Josh, Buddy tries to force him to perform one single move. However, Josh refused to dance with the rest of the children and wants to be left alone, which led to an unfinished-nasty argument between Josh and Buddy, with Mr. Mailbox hearing everything. What Mr. Mailbox heard was:

Although the children ask of Josh's whereabouts, Buddy lies by saying that Josh "became famous and went to Diamond City". During the next episode, Buddy brought a young girl named Hannah in as Josh's replacement. After finding Josh's bloodied book in the trash, Freddy consults Wade, and they confront Nurse Nancy, who promises to talk to Buddy. They witness Buddy strangle and bludgeon Nancy and punch Clocky the Clock off the wall, but doesn't tell Hannah, Oliver, and Betty about it as Buddy approaches to end the episode. Buddy appears on a television screen in the real world and physically reaches out of the screen, pulling a mother named Grace into the world of It's Buddy! and has her overtake Nurse Nancy's role.

In the next episode surrounding Buddy's birthday party, Freddy and Wade convince Hannah and Oliver to escape to Diamond City with them. Their escape attempt is thwarted when Oliver calls upon Buddy. Just as Charlie can take the kids to Diamond City, Buddy tears his face off and forces the kids to leave the train. Buddy stops Wade and stabs him, but he is stopped when Freddy sprays Buddy with flammable chemicals, and Wade lights him on fire. A severely injured Buddy stabs Mailman Miles. While Buddy's horn gets stuck on the treehouse, Freddy, Hannah, and Oliver jump the fence with Freddy's talking backpack, Strappy, and Mr. Mailbox, a talking mailbox whose mouth was torn off by Buddy. Freddy accidentally drops Wade out of fear from Buddy charging, whom Buddy fatally impaled with his horn.

In the next episode surrounding Diamond City, Buddy heads off to Nurse Grace and lies to her about the kids being manipulated by a monster from the outside. After being patched up by Nurse Grace, she hugs Buddy at his insistence, during which he touches her sensually. Grace rebukes him; Buddy takes the axe from the wall and continues his pursuit, during which he interrogates a nearby flower for the children's whereabouts. Buddy calls out to the trio at sundown, but doesn't find them. After George and Willie encourage the children to eat flower petals, Freddy hallucinates a maimed Wade blaming her for his death. The children awaken to find that the men have left and stolen Strappy. Not impressed by George and likely still angry at him for escaping, Buddy used his axe to cut through the top of George's head, killing him instantly after the first swipe. Willie then panicked and told Buddy that the kids were located in the desert. However, despite telling the truth, Willie was still thrown into the swamp where he soon drowned, after which he begins to rip Strappy, despite Freddy demanding he stop. Oliver and Hannah arrive on bikes and rescue Strappy and Freddy.

The children reach Diamond City, but discover it is a miniature model. Buddy arrives and embraces them, ending the episode and setting the world to normal (subsequently erasing his injuries). In the final episode of the movie centered around baseball, A boy named Tyler, replacing Wade, demands an apology from the trio for "running away" from him and mostly Buddy. Buddy and Tyler confront them with a song and they tearfully comply. Freddy also apologizes, but only after Buddy slams her into a tree and cuts her arm. She seeks Grace's care for a cut on her arm; the two apparently recognize each other. Outside, Buddy happily demands that Freddy start the baseball game with a song, but the trio sings the profanity-laden credits song about how much they really despise him, hinting Freddy, Oliver and Hannah don't love Buddy anymore. This was ultimately the final straw as Buddy finally reaches breaking point and mutates into a monstrous nightmare version of himself. He kills Mailman Justin by spinning him onto his horn, Couchy the Couch by ripping him in half, and Betty Bunny by tearing her head off. He attacks Freddy, but Grace, having recognized Freddy as her daughter, fights him off. The two share a tearful reunion before Grace sacrifices herself to help the children go down the Worry Well. After Tyler hugs Buddy and returns him to normal, the latter, still as evil as ever, immediately suffocates Tyler to death before pursuing the final three down the Well. However, he severs portions of his hips so he can fit.

After reaching a weapons shed and meeting a very old unicorn, Buddy grabs Hannah through the door and kills her off-screen before bursting in and swallowing Oliver. Buddy pursues Freddy down a school hallway before Strappy trips him, helping her impale his body with Mr. Mailbox's pointed end. As he draws his dying breath, Buddy applauds Freddy for her bravery, then spitefully calls her a "bitch" before dying. With Buddy's karmic death, thus fortunately avenges all of his victims. After escaping through a television screen and ending up in a different house (presumably in another country), Freddy's companions both were converted to regular objects with no sentience, much to her grief.

Given that the clip Buddy uses to lure children and adults through the screen is still playing despite his death (and a child reaches through the screen and touch Freddy's hand), it can be assumed that the It's Buddy! show and world still exist, although uninhabited and host-less for all time.

Buddy possesses a small but deadly arsenal of powers. For one he's able to project himself through a television screen and lure victims in, to which he proceeds to abduct and brainwash them, into being with him in his show. Whether he's doing that through the screen at the room filled with televisions, or knows how to project at the right time is unknown. He's also able to magically reset his appearance back to normal and cure any devastating injuries. Furthermore when he gets absolutely enraged he transforms into his dark form, which while it looks painful his bloodlust and anger completely consume him.

In the first 20 minutes, he makes Josh's book disappear into thin air.

He's also shown, to be able to control his house's surroundings, including the minds of his newfound victims. He's shown to also have some power into the real world as well; as he's able to make Grace's husband, completely unaware of her being sucked into her TV screen by Buddy's hand and worse; after fully abducting her, make the TV disappear as well.

Despite his obese appearance, slow and lumbering moves, Buddy is not to be underestimated. He possesses a surprisingly high amount of physical power, as he's able to strangle or hold his victims. Or even break through doors and even rip off Charlie the Train's massive mechanical face. Including even behead Betty with ease. As well when he's about to charge with his horn, he can deliver a powerful impaling attack. He also knows how to use objects for melee combat too; most notably a baseball bat and an axe. He can also magically transport his victims back to his house. Furthermore he can devour living victims whole.

Additionally he's also willing to cut off big pieces of his belly, to be able to go down Worry Well. Even in his plush form, he still posseses some kind of teleportation ability, as it can allow him to go anywhere and eardrop or stalk his victims. Despite all these, Buddy can still be harmed or killed by physical means, though he has a high tolerance for pain and can go on even with grave injuries. He was able to be set on fire, burning half of his skin off and yet was still able to move around as if nothing happened. As well Grace impaling him on one eye and hitting him a number of times with a baseball bat, in his dark form. And finally getting impaled on the chest by Mr. Mailbox's pointy end, thus putting an end to his reign.

Freddy: Frederica "Freddy" Gardner is the protagonist among the school children trapped in an enormous field playground that is secretly terrifying and highly dangerous. She is portrayed by Delaney Quinn. In the film, her close friends are Oliver, Hannah, and Wade. She used to be close to Buddy the Unicorn, until she realized they were being lured in under the guise of mentorship before being slain. Freddy is a young girl recognizable by her two front braids and her iconic anthropomorphic backpack, Strappy. Her various outfits are frequently paired with different colored aprons and colorful polos. While she maintains a joyful expression around the mascots, she often looks frightened because of the horrors she has witnessed and her realization of what Buddy has been doing. In It's Buddy!, Freddy is usually seen with Oliver and Wade, with Josh conspicuously absent—presumed already killed by Buddy the Unicorn.

Freddy participates in activities like the "Buddy Glide" and the "Cleaning Episode." Despite attending the projects, she is often frightened because she knows too much about Buddy, a secret she later shares with Wade.

Freddy was just a normal teen girl living with her family when, one day at dinner, she noticed Buddy the Unicorn. No one saw him, but he kidnapped Freddy, trapping her inside a TV and forcing her, along with other children, to be part of his show, "It's Buddy." Buddy erased all her memories of her family, making it as if she had never existed. In one episode centered on dancing, Freddy and her friend Wade were outside playing when Mailman Miles visited and brought them some mail. They found out they were invited to a dance party, but Freddy was scared to dance. They called Buddy for help, and he appeared to listen to Freddy's concerns. She confessed her fear, and Buddy assured her that overcoming fear could bring her courage. To help them prepare, Buddy gave them a dance lesson before the party. He also asked Josh to help Freddy, but Josh refused to dance and left with his book. Buddy then invited Freddy and Wade inside the house, where Betty Bunny was giving a dance lesson to Josh as they prepared. Inside, Betty helped Freddy and Wade with their dance moves, and they learned to dance. Buddy later entered the house and delivered the upsetting news that Josh was going away. The episode concluded with everyone hugging Buddy before the screen faded to black. As the scene faded, Freddy noticed a book cover stained with red liquid that belonged to Josh, hinting that something had happened to him.

In the episode " Cleaning, Betty brings her new friend Hannah just in time to help clean the house. Buddy suddenly appears, excited to lend a hand. However, Freddy feels something is off and brings Wade along to discuss their concerns. She discovers blood on Josh's book cover and suspects Buddy might have harmed him. Although Wade doubts their theory and thinks the blood might be paint, he asks Betty if she sent an email to Josh; she insists she didn’t, implying Buddy is lying. As Buddy starts singing about cleaning, Freddy asks if he can see Nurse Nancy since she injured herself, and Wade insists on going with her. At the nurse’s office, Nurse Nancy puts a bandage on Freddy, and he questions her about Buddy, sensing something strange. While they're talking, they look out the window and see Nurse Nancy and Buddy having an unsettling conversation. Suddenly, Strappy alerts them as they witness Buddy tightening his grip on Nurse Nancys neck , and in a fit of rage, Freddy breaks the living room clock. Realizing they need to escape, Wade and Freddy hide and start running to warn the others, but Buddy confronts them, claiming he’s finished cleaning the house and blocking their way. Now, they know Buddy is a monster, and they must find a way to escape.

In the episode, Betty and the children celebrate Buddy's birthday, trying to make it the best one for him. When Oliver is about to call Buddy, Freddy stops him, insisting they should bring him and Hannah to the treehouse instead. Freddy and Wade tell Oliver and Hannah that Buddy is the freak responsible for the disappearance of Josh and Nurse Nancy, but they are initially skeptical. As they leave the treehouse, they see Buddy on the swing, which makes Hannah start to believe Freddy and Wade. However, Oliver still needs proof, so he decides to confront Buddy directly. Meanwhile, Freddy, Wade, and Hannah look for a way to escape, hopping onto a train named Charlie, but their path is blocked by Buddy

Buddy then takes her mother Grace, who Freddy had forgotten when Buddy took her.

Wade: Depicted as a smart, brave young aboriginal boy with short dark hair and dreadlocks, typically wearing casual clothes like a plaid shirt, a green shirt, sneakers and jeans fitting the show's aesthetic

wade was a brave and smart kid who took action during the altercations. He thought and acted quickly before his unfortunate death at the hands of Buddy.

Wade was just a normal boy. One day he noticed Buddy the Unicorn. No one saw him, but he kidnapped Wade, trapping him inside a TV and forcing him along with other children, to be part of his show "It's Buddy." Buddy erased all his memories of his family, as if he had never existed.

Oliver: Oliver is a young boy with fair skin and light brown hair, styled with a neat side part and swept back. He wears round, thin-framed glasses and has a slightly concerned or confused expression. His outfit consists of a pastel multicolored plaid button-up shirtwith blue backpack straps over his shoulders.

Oliver was just a normal boy. One day he noticed Buddy the Unicorn. No one saw him, but he kidnapped Oilver, trapping him inside a TV and forcing him, along with other children, to be part of his show, "It's Buddy." Buddy erased all his memories of his family, as if he had never existed. Buddy's Birthday In the episode, Betty and the children celebrate Buddy's birthday, trying to make it the best one for him. When Oliver is about to call Buddy, Freddy stops him, insisting they should bring him and Hannah to the treehouse instead. Freddy and Wade tell Oliver and Hannah that Buddy is the psycho responsible for the disappearance of Josh and Nurse Nancy, but they are initially skeptical. As the children leave the treehouse, they see Toy Buddy on the swing, which makes Hannah start to believe Freddy and Wade. However, Oliver still needs proof, so he decides to call on Buddy directly.

Betty: Betty is a pink bunny with a heart-shaped nose and a pair of buckteeth. She wears a pair of purple overalls with a flower in the middle, a lilac and white scarf around her neck, and a pair of red and white sneakers. Betty is a sweet and caring bunny who loves to bake, sing, and dance with her friends! However, she can get easily skittish when one of the kids mentions Buddy's intentions, being the type to smooth things over out of fear.

She co-hosts the surreal, 1990s-style children's television show It's Buddy!, helping the bright orange, malevolent unicorn Buddy teach lessons, run games, and sing cleaning or dancing songs. Cheerful on the surface, Betty desperately tries to keep Buddy happy and calm whenever he grows angry, urging the children to hug him or apologize. She ultimately knows what Buddy truly is—a monstrous, demonic entity—and begs the kids to appease him

Josh: Josh is a young male notable for his bowl-cut hairstyle and signature outfit consisting of a navy blue hoodie, beige shorts, and dodger blue footwear, which were prominently featured in the teaser materials for the film. In another outfit, he is seen wearing a gray patterned polo with a green shirt underneath. His final outfit features a plain gray polo with a plain black shirt underneath.

Josh is generally portrayed as a book-loving, introverted, and calm boy, though he can occasionally be energetic, as seen during the opening introduction of the show, and is generally attentive to Buddy The Unicorn. However, if someone repeatedly interrupts his reading—as Buddy does—he becomes outrageous and rude, which ultimately seals his fate. Josh was one of the earliest children to be educated by Buddy the Unicorn. After being murdered by Buddy, he was temporarily replaced by Hannah before she was also slaughtered, leaving the group without another replacement. He declined to join the "Buddy Glide" and was eventually disposed of, which resulted in a catastrophe. Freddy found Josh's book in the waste, covered in blood, though Buddy claimed it was only paint—alerting the children to what was truly going on. Josh was killed at the park. Afterward, Buddy told the children that Josh enjoyed dancing so much that he went on tour in Diamond City. It is assumed that Josh's leg was ripped off, as Buddy told him to "just stick out your leg one more time" right before Josh's screams were heard.

Nurse grace: Grace is a wife and mother of three children, but then something happens—her daughter is kidnapped by Buddy and taken to his world, where no one knows Freddy exists, erasing the memory of the Gardener family. During dinner, Grace notices another empty chair, and then something triggers her to scream.

That night, Ben checks on his wife, and Grace asks him if they had a third child. Confused, Ben says they only have two, but Grace feels something is wrong; something is missing. The next day, she seeks help from a psychic to understand what’s going on. Soon, Grace sees Buddy on TV, and as she tries to get closer, Ben turns it off. She flips through the channels, but there’s nothing to see; it feels like she’s lost in a kids' show, making her believe she is going crazy. In the living room, she continues searching for a channel but finds nothing. Frustrated, Grace turns off the TV and goes to sleep. Suddenly, the TV turns on by itself, and there is Buddy, telling her to come closer. She reaches out, but as she tries to show Ben, he can’t see her—as if she never existed. Grace is then dragged by Buddy, replacing her as the nurse.

Without her memories she acts in an almost mechanical manner, doing as buddy says, hugging him, singing bandaging him up; only showing any real thought for herself when buddy becomes physically intimate with her in which she distances herself from the manic show host and proceeds with her ‘work’. When brought face to face with Freddy , she initially snaps out of her trance like state, going as far as to act as a distraction and attempt to protect the children from dark buddy, but sadly is killed off screen.

Plot: The 2026 horror-comedy film Buddy follows a group of children trapped inside a surreal, 1990s-style children's television show who must escape from their tyrannical, murderous orange unicorn host.
