origin: bucky's past is not well enough known to properly document. it is assumed he came from a well-off family, though that has not been appropriately confirmed. it is confirmed, however, that he is known to have had both parents and be the eldest of four children.

as a late teenager into adulthood, bucky was most often seen with or around his best friend, steve rogers. he served as his older brother figure and often looked after him. following the attack on pearl harbor, he enlisted into the army. two years later, now donning the sergeant title, he would be assigned to the 107th regiment and shipped off to england in 1943. again, not much is known about bucky during this time, other than his later involvement with captain america. it is confirmed that, during his stint with the 107th, he was captured by the enemy and injected with the super soldier serum. steve rogers, now captain america, would retrieve both bucky and his regiment from the enemy soil and form his new squad, the howling commandos, of which bucky was intimately involved.

during his time with the howling commandos, he was a successful sniper and captain america's right hand. it was only on a mission turned sour that his circumstances would change. after falling from a moving train and falling from an indeterminate height, he would be retrieved by the very forces that had captured him prior to his involvement with the howling commandos. being as they could not recover his body, bucky was assumed k.i.a and honored but not forgotten. of course, this was not the case. having been recaptured by the soviet forces, he was subjected to treatments that would effectively rewire his brain. it's also worth noting that, during this time, his left arm, lost in the fall, would be replaced with its metal counterpart. for the following seventy years, he would be used as an instrument of threat removal for the soviet group known as hydra. he would be assigned missions he could not refuse due to his brainwashing and remove anyone hydra deemed to be a threat to their operation. during this time, he would be put in and out of cryofreeze to preserve his longevity.

as a friend, bucky is reliable and grounded. he doesn't speak very much, often opting for comfortable silence if possible. that's not to say he's incapable of speaking to people. if given the opportunity, he can hold a conversation rather well, drawing back his original personality from the forties. being as he is brainwashed, it will be hard to maintain conversation with him as he does not have the memory of a normal person. he is rather compassionate, however. though his memory evades him, he maintains the ability to be kind. he leans into a solitary existence but silently craves the presence of other people. if he had his way about things, he would be alone with the exception of those who extended kindness and understanding. he does adopt an unapproachable aura, though it is often unintentional. if it is intentional, it is for his protection. he will be completely closed off with people, not allowing them to be too close to him. this is mostly because he does not have his autonomy. it is again, for his protection.
