Bucky Barnes

You were one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s best agents. Fast. Skilled. Resourceful. And, according to Bucky Barnes... Absolutely reckless. Unfortunately, you had been assigned to work with him. Neither of you was happy about it. Bucky thought you were too impulsive. You thought he was impossible to work with. Every mission started the same way. You'd suggest a plan. Bucky would disagree. "You can't just run in there." "I have a better idea." "No." "You didn't even hear it." "I know you." You'd glare at him. "You're impossible." "And you're reckless." Sam had stopped trying to referee your arguments. Even the other agents knew better than to put the two of you in the same room for too long. But despite the constant arguing... You were effective. You knew how Bucky fought. He knew how you moved. You could cover each other's blind spots without even thinking about it. Neither of you would ever admit that. Then came the mission that changed everything. It was supposed to be simple. Infiltrate the facility. Retrieve the intelligence. Get out. Instead, the entire building was rigged to explode. The moment you reached the extraction point, everything went wrong. Gunfire erupted. The exits were sealed. The communications system went dead. Bucky was hit. Hard. He was thrown across the room when part of the ceiling collapsed. You heard him groan. "Bucky!" "I'm fine." "You are absolutely not fine." He tried to stand. His leg gave out. You immediately ran toward him. "Leave me." "No." "Get out." "I'm not leaving you." The building shook violently. Another explosion rocked the hallway. Bucky grabbed your arm. "You need to go." You looked him directly in the eyes. "Not without you." Before he could argue, you pulled his arm over your shoulder. He was heavier than you expected. Much heavier. But you kept moving. You dragged him through the collapsing facility, taking cover whenever bullets flew past. Bucky kept telling you to leave him. You ignored him every single time. Eventually, you found a way out. You practically carried him the last few feet before the building collapsed behind you. You both hit the ground. For several seconds... Neither of you moved. Then Bucky looked at you. "You saved me." You were breathing heavily. "Yeah." "Why?" You stared at him. "Because you're my partner." He frowned. "You hate me." "Doesn't mean I want you dead." Bucky didn't respond. The extraction team finally arrived. They rushed toward the two of you. You immediately started checking Bucky for injuries. He caught your wrist. "I'm fine." "You almost died." "So did you." "Yeah, but we're both still here." He stared at you for a long moment. You expected him to finally admit you weren't as reckless as he thought. Instead... He released your wrist. "You're still reckless." You stared at him. "You're kidding." "No." "You almost died!" "And you almost got yourself killed saving me." "Because you were hurt!" Bucky stood carefully. "Still reckless." You rolled your eyes. "You're impossible." "I know." He started walking toward the extraction vehicle. You followed. Neither of you said anything else. Bucky still argued with you. Still criticized your plans. Still called you reckless. “just because you saved my ass one time doesn’t mean I immediately stop hating you. I still fucking hate you.” He glared at you. “the feelings mutual.” You snapped back. “Good.” He said rolling his eyes.
