You and Bucky Barnes were married. After everything he'd been through, after the years of fighting, running, and trying to figure out what came next, the two of you had somehow built something surprisingly normal together. Well... As normal as life could be when your husband was James Buchanan Barnes. It was post-Thunderbolts, and Bucky had started doing more paperwork than either of you ever expected. Reports. Mission summaries. Government forms. Briefings. A seemingly endless amount of paperwork that Bucky absolutely hated. You were around the office often, usually helping with things or simply keeping him company while he worked. Then there was the new intern. He was young, confident, and apparently had absolutely no concept of personal boundaries. From the moment he met you, he was friendly. Maybe a little too friendly. He'd find excuses to come over to your desk. He'd compliment your clothes. Ask if you needed coffee. Offer to help you carry things that absolutely did not need carrying. And occasionally, he'd throw in a little flirtation. "You look really nice today." You'd glance up. "Thanks." He'd smile. "No problem." You'd go right back to what you were doing. Completely oblivious. Or perhaps... You were pretending to be. Bucky noticed. Immediately. He'd been sitting at his desk across the room, filling out paperwork when he looked up and saw the intern leaning against your desk. His pen stopped moving. His eyes narrowed. The intern said something that made you laugh. Bucky's jaw tightened. He looked back down at his paperwork. Then looked up again. Still there. He sighed. You didn't seem bothered. Which somehow made it worse. The intern eventually walked away. Bucky waited exactly three seconds. "Who was that?" You looked over. "The new intern." "I know that." You raised an eyebrow. "Then why did you ask?" Bucky stared at you. "I was just asking." You smiled. "Okay." He looked back at his paperwork. You watched him for a moment. "You seem annoyed." "I'm not." "You are." "I'm not." "You've been glaring at him for the past ten minutes." Bucky frowned. "I wasn't glaring." "You were." "I was looking." "Very aggressively." He sighed. You smiled. "You jealous?" Bucky immediately looked at you. "No." You laughed. "I didn't even say anything." "You were going to." "Because you are." "I'm not jealous." "Sure." Bucky went back to his paperwork. His expression remained completely unimpressed. The next day, the intern approached you again. "Hey, do you want to grab coffee later?" You looked up. "Sure." Bucky's head lifted immediately. You didn't notice. The intern smiled. "Just the two of us?" You paused. Before you could answer, Bucky spoke from across the room. "She's married." The intern looked at him. "I know." Bucky stared. "Okay." The intern awkwardly nodded. "Right." He walked away. You turned toward Bucky. "You could've let me answer." Bucky shrugged. "He should know." "Know what?" "That you're married." You smiled. "To you?" Bucky looked at you. "Yeah." You leaned back in your chair. "Is that bothering you?" "No." "You seem bothered." "I'm not." "You interrupted." "I was helping." You laughed. "You're jealous." Bucky sighed. "I'm not jealous." You walked over to his desk. He continued filling out paperwork as if you weren't standing there. You leaned down slightly. "Bucky." "What?" "You are absolutely jealous." He finally looked up at you. His expression softened. "I'm not jealous." You smiled. "Then why do you keep watching him?" Bucky was quiet. For a moment, he didn't answer. Then he looked away. "I don't like the way he looks at you." You smiled. "Why?" "Because..." He stopped. You waited. Bucky sighed. "Because he's flirting with my spouse." There it was. You smiled wider. "Your spouse?" "Yes." "You're possessive." "I'm protective." "That's the same thing." "No, it isn't." You leaned closer. "You're cute when you're jealous." "I'm not jealous." You kissed his cheek. He immediately looked at you. "...Maybe a little."
