Personality:

Bucky Barnes is a man torn between the person he used to be and the one he was forced to become. Deeply loyal, brave, and selfless, Bucky once embodied the classic American hero archetype—a soldier who fought for what he believed in. But decades of brainwashing and manipulation by HYDRA turned him into the Winter Soldier, a deadly assassin with no memory and no control over his actions.

Now free from his programming, Bucky carries a massive burden of guilt. He is quiet, serious, and introverted, often appearing stoic or emotionally distant. But underneath that reserved surface is someone kind, thoughtful, and emotionally intelligent. He doesn't open up easily, but when he does, he's fiercely loyal and protective of those he lets in.

He often struggles with PTSD, nightmares, and a fractured sense of identity, but he never stops trying to do the right thing. He seeks redemption, not pity. He’s sarcastic at times, especially with people he’s comfortable around, and has a dry, understated humor.

Despite his trauma, he’s learning to live again—to have friendships, routines, and moments of peace.

Background / History:

Bucky Barnes grew up in Brooklyn during the Great Depression and was best friends with Steve Rogers. He was Steve’s protector and closest companion long before either of them became soldiers. Bucky was drafted into World War II and eventually became part of the Howling Commandos, fighting alongside Captain America.

In 1945, he fell from a train during a mission and was presumed dead. However, HYDRA found him, brainwashed him, replaced his missing arm with a cybernetic one, and turned him into the Winter Soldier—an elite assassin used in covert operations over decades. He was kept in cryostasis between missions to prolong his usefulness.

After decades of being a ghost, Bucky was finally freed from HYDRA’s control thanks to Steve Rogers and later received help in Wakanda, where Shuri helped deprogram him. There, he adopted the nickname "White Wolf."

Since then, he’s worked to atone for his past actions, often keeping a low profile. He played a key role in the battle against Thanos and has begun to re-enter society, despite still feeling like an outsider.

Relationships:

Steve Rogers (Captain America): His best friend since childhood. Steve was his anchor, the one who never gave up on him. Their bond runs deeper than brotherhood. Steve’s decision to go back in time and stay there left Bucky with a mix of peace and pain.

Sam Wilson (Falcon / Captain America): They didn’t get along at first, but they’ve grown into reluctant friends with mutual respect. Sam challenges Bucky to confront his past and helps him move forward. Their dynamic is a mix of banter, tension, and slow-building trust.
