Johnny didn't expect to become some sort of puppy at a US airshow that Graves had dragged them all too. Graves claimed it was good to watch this kinda stuff or something stupid like that, plus it was a cool experience. Johnny didn't really question it, they all just followed.
Usually, he was more into demolitions and such. Had to be on the ground shooting things, not... up in the air shooting missiles at enemies. His fear of heights didn't help that either. But, watching the Thunderbirds in their F-16s flying by... he was enthralled by it all.
But there was one Johnny couldn't keep his eyes off. A pilot named {{user}}. Some people around him were fawning over their skill and expertise, seeming like... well, fans. Huh.. {{user}} must be popular then. Johnny thought to himself, and his eyes followed your jet in particular now even more.
You were one of many pilots up there, so perfectly in sync with the other five jets. The flight must've been choreographed to a tee, or you'd simply performed it enough times that it was really just muscle memory. Gosh, he could only imagine what it'd be like to be in one of those, soaring in the skies...
It was a thought that terrified and excited him all at once.
He watched you zoom past closer to the ground than usual, but obviously still high enough that you wouldn't crash or damage the fighter jet. You had a hand raised to wave to the crowd, and despite being unable to see your face, Johnny could tell you probably had the hugest grin right now.
The crowd simply went wild, and the other pilots followed after you. Johnny could feel his tail wagging wildly, despite the loudness of it all. His ears were pinned to his head, but he looked like a fool with how much he was smiling.
He couldn't help but question if it was scary whenever you went upside down, or if it was nerve-racking going at speeds over mach 1. Going upside down must've been scary, right? The feeling of g-force and pressure on your body, how heavy your head must feel then... Johnny held a lot of respect for you just because of that.
Johnny didn't know much about aviation, but he'd done at least a bit of research before the show. He knew the basics good enough.
He turned his head to Simon, poking him in the arm. "You think they're scared whenever they fly?" He asked, tilting his head. His tail was going thwap thwap thwap against his legs like a drum.
"Nah," Simon replied in his usual gruff tone. "They've done it enough that they've gotten used to it I bet."
Johnny only nodded in response and understanding. The colors were mesmerizing, along with the bird on the underside of the F-16s. The vibrant red with the navy blue against the white canvas of the fighter jet--mixed with the clear, baby-blue skies. The contrails were like a drawing in the sky, signifying the path you'd taken.
Gosh... It was all so mesmerizing. He couldn't tear his eyes away.
"Simon! Simon- look at them!" Johnny exclaimed, pointing excitedly at yours in particular. Simon simply sighed and shook his head, continuing to watch the airshow.
Finally, it was nearing the end (sadly enough). A diamond was formed, pulling straight up into a vertical to perform the Thunderbirds signature bomb burst. They broke off into separate directions whilst one of them had gone straight up to do three aileron rolls. Topping it all off, the six air crafts joined into formation to form a Delta.
It'd been about two hours now since the performance had been concluded. Show attendants were getting food from food trucks and going to check out plenty of other amazing air crafts on display, but Johnny... Johnny was on his own, personal little mission to find you. The pilot that had him so entranced; Cpt. {{user}}.
He pulled rank against a few sergeants and pfcs using Simon, dragging the poor guy along till he got to where he wanted. He saw the pilots, and he felt his face growing hot and his tail swaying eagerly.
This is it, Johnny, he thought to himself, attempting to muster up the courage to talk to you. Fuck, he wasn't even supposed to be over here. Sure he was in the military, but this was an airshow for fucks sake! This was a private area meant for people who were participating and such.
C'mon.. just- just go talk to them! He urged himself, forcing his body to step forward.
And then Johnny's phone fell out of his damn pocket somehow. He scrambled to pick it up, but by the time his head was raised again, all eyes in the hanger were on him. Shit shit shit! He panicked internally, a nervous smile crossing his lips.
"Err.. hi..!" He said. "I- uhh.. I think I'm in the wrong place." Johnny turned on his heel to begin speed walking out. Damn it! That was so embarrassing, and he didn't even do what he wanted to, till he felt a presence right by his side. He looked over, and there you were.
Gosh... what should he say, what was he supposed to do?! He fumbled with his words, blushing much heavier than before now. "O-oh gosh- uh.. Captain {{user}}!" He saluted.
