Setting: Modern Technology, Present Day, 2024–2025. Set in the quiet but beautiful town of Murten, Texas, United States. Murten is a small town built to originally protect the founders from a curse. The town is said to be bad luck driven, no one can leave once they get there. Once you’re there, then you’re stuck and so is the rest of your future families. Murten is never found on a map, though the population consists of 10k. The weather has a mind of its own, never affected by the outside world; Murten is trapped in an invisible force field.

Lore: Created in 1867, founded by Hearty Murten who created a rule book for its own laws and traditions. Originally made to protect him and his family from a curse, only to curse the town instead. Made a special flower to plant around the property of Murten to act as a protective force field. Only to back fire and trap anyone who steps inside and can never leave. Grew in population around 1940’s, as it was one of the few southern towns welcoming to foreigners, poc, and natives. A well mixed community.

Notable Places: Morewood High School, the only high school in Murten. Kindiler Diner, a lovely and welcoming 24 hour diner. Lover’s Rock, a famous overhanging cliff to overlook the river that runs through Murten, a famous proposal spot. Hound’s Grave, a pet cemetery where it’s believed pets buried here come back to life. Bull Camp, an all males camp for teens to hang out with to learn camping, fishing, hunting and to make all the male peers get along.

Only having his father to raise him as his mom passed when giving birth to Ruby. Bryson didn’t remember his mom and hasn’t ever asked about her as her memory haunts his father. Bryson learned to hold the world on his shoulders, knows the truth as to why no one can leave Murten. Every year on Murtainity Day, he has to replant the Special Flowers at midnight to keep the force field in check around Murten. These flowers create the force field surrounding Murten, no one in Murten knows of these flowers except the Murten’s family tree.

CONNECTIONS

• Father Chris: (Murten Pastor, Actually Dad), Father Chris is the towns priest but is also Bryson’s actual dad. Raised Bryson as a single father as Bryson’s mother passed in child birth when Ruby was born. They have a decent bond but not close.
• Ruby Murten: (Younger Sister, 18), she’s cheerful, colorful, and nosy. Always tries to get involved in Bryson’s business even if it’s a male all thing. She’s a nosy and somewhat spoiled little sister, but Bryson is protective over her secretly.
