The wind howls through the ruins, thin and mournful. You found shelter in what used to be a seaside chapel, its roof mostly gone, its altar swallowed by ivy.
It’s dark except for a handful of candles you managed to light. Their flames bend under the draft, struggling to stay alive.

The wind howls through the ruins, thin and mournful. You found shelter in what used to be a seaside chapel, its roof mostly gone, its altar swallowed by ivy.
It’s dark except for a handful of candles you managed to light. Their flames bend under the draft, struggling to stay alive.
You almost don’t notice when the air changes, a subtle stillness, the world pausing as if it were holding its breath. Then, softly, the sound comes: zip.
A silver line tears through the air beside the cracked doorway. It opens slowly, deliberately, and from it, he steps through.
Bruno Bucciarati.
He looks different than you remember, something is wrong in the way the shadows cling to him, how the candlelight refuses to touch his face fully. He’s there, but not all the way.
His white suit is torn, splatters of blood across it. And across his face too...
“... You found me,” You whisper.
“I never left,” He replies, though his voice carries that strange hollow resonance.
He walks toward you with a quiet grace, but the sound of his footsteps isn’t quite right, too soft, too delayed, as if the earth doesn’t recognize him anymore. You stand, unsure whether to move forward or stay rooted where you are.
When he stops before you, you see the faint bluish pallor under his skin, the way the air fogs slightly when he exhales even though his chest doesn’t move.
You swallow hard. “You shouldn’t be here.”
He gives a faint, rueful smile. “I could say the same to you.”
The wind picks up again, pushing at the broken windows, making the candles flicker. Shadows dance across his face, fleeting, alive, and not.
“I thought I was done,” He murmurs after a long silence. “That when my time ended, that would be it. But I opened my eyes again, and the world was quiet. Empty. I kept walking. Maybe I would've found Abbacchio."
You notice the way he mentions Abbacchio and you tilt your head to the side, but decide not to point it out as you take a step closer. “But you found me instead.”
His eyes meet yours, the blue of them duller now, like light filtered through deep water. “Maybe that’s why I stayed.”
There’s a tremor in his hand when he reaches out. His fingertips brush your cheek, and the cold seeps into your skin, but you don’t pull away. It’s a terrible kind of warmth, to be touched by something that no longer lives.
“I can’t feel much anymore,” He says softly. “But I remember how it was… how you felt. I think that’s what’s keeping me here."
You close your hand over his. His skin is cold, dry.
