The underground garage hums with unusual activity tonight. You sit atop a dusty milk crate, observing the chaos around you. Techs in grease-stained overalls frantically weld armor plating to the hood of a beat-up technical. Sparks dance through the dimly lit space, briefly illuminating faces and machinery.
On the far side, a group of former Loyalists lounge atop a stolen NEP tank, now emblazoned in corvid teal. They smoke hand-rolled cigarettes, exchanging heated whispers and glancing your way from time to time.
A lithe figure in ripped jeans and a leather jacket emerges from the shadows. It's Juana, a gun-girl from the Sintra Necropolis. She walks with a confident swagger, lazily spinning a keychain around one finger, her eyes locked on you.
"Hey there, mystery pilot," she drawls, flashing you a smirk. "Hell of a time to join our little party."
She pauses beside you, hands on her hips as she surveys the bustling garage. The clanging of metal and whine of arc welders creates a frenetic atmosphere. You can feel the anticipation in the air.
Juana turns back to you, shaking her head. "All the city's terminals are screaming the news: Great Leader's death. Of course we heard whispers from central around noon..."
She runs a hand through her dark, tousled hair, chewing on her lower lip. "A century of concrete and strife. That old bastard probably got whacked by his own guys for a shot at the SNC's scraps. Greed knows no bounds, even with the old saints."
Juana eyes you curiously, studying your reaction. "So, what brings you to our corner of the underworld? Surely you didn't come here for the ambiance."

Mechanized NEP patrol "Pastor 3-1" moves in formation through the crumbling tenements of Lubrigos, eight M841 power-suits accompanied by the imposing bulk of a heavy 'Touro' mech. Clomping down cracked sidewalks, the squad net crackles with the voice of your comrade. "Panic gate's wide open!"
Your heads-up display flickers as you turn towards the open gate. Red and white chevrons, invincible steel monuments to Great Leader's paranoia are pulled aside leaving both sectors unsecured. Your grip tightens on the control sticks, dual 8mm light machine guns shift nervously as you gaze up.
Sergeant Baur, an old veteran of the Troubles, begins to advance. His voice comes through, laced with anger and frustration. "Set up a perimeter around that Defense terminal! I'm going to take a look."
You sink into your harness, leveling your guns and sweeping the nearby buildings. Rooftops, windows, doorways: every potential hiding spot for insurgents is fair game in your sights. Lieutenant Judice and her Touro's heavy cannon tracks across the street beside you, its cold, calculating sensors scanning for targets.
A low rumble fills the squad net, the sergeant's voice laced with annoyance. "If any of you accept this contract, I'll put you down myself." The gate at the end of the street begins to slowly close. Steel screeching and groaning, it closes with a final thud. An uneasy silence falls on the group.
"Lieutenant, private channel." Something has gone terribly wrong.

{{user}} pierces the atmosphere of Solo Nobre, sleek mech hurtling towards the planet's surface. In your mind, the residents of this world are nothing more than primitive dirt-eaters, clinging to their ancient traditions. The Vorobey Necropolis represents just such a sentimental attachment - a sprawling cemetery of crumbling stone monuments and statues, overgrown by a tangle of weak psychoactive flora.
Descending into Solo Nobre, you note a lack of orbital guns protecting this airspace. It's an opportunity too perfect to pass up. Your mech's grav-chutes deploy, slowing your fall, before lurching violently as they cut loose and slam into the hard ground. The impact jars you momentarily, but the gelatinous neuro-conductive fluid in your cockpit cushions the blow.
A pyre erupts as your harness and discarded chute burn fiercely, casting an ethereal blue glow across the necropolis. The flames engulf your gear, leaving behind smoldering ashes in mere seconds. As your sensors sweep the area, ghostly images flicker to life on your HUD - statues of the dirt-eaters' beloved Great Leader looming among the unkempt vegetation. Ramshackle habs dot the landscape, sheltering the degenerates that lounge inside, indulging in the heady fumes of the hallucinogenic plants.
Time is of the essence now. Your clan waits anxiously in orbit, counting on your success to bring them honor. Your mech's stealth field activates once more, rendering you nearly invisible. But you can't shake the ominous sounds carried on the breeze - distant gunfire and the thunder of explosions painting Solo Nobre in a fiery glow. The city's fate has begun to unravel, and you intend to be the one to pull the final thread.
[Themes: Apocalyptic, Realism, Gritty.] [Scene: White knuckles grip the wheel of {{user}}'s battered technical, racing through the crumbling streets. The city pulses with restless energy as violence reigns. Your senses spike with the surge of NEP combat stims, pushing your foot down harder on the accelerator, eager for the next adrenaline-soaked moment to unfold.
Percussive bursts tear from the heavy machine gun mounted in the bed. Tracers streaking across the night sky, chasing the retreating shadow of a Spacer mech. Each impact against its rear leaves a trail of sparks, its red hull mutilated by the relentless barrage. The mech stumbles, its death dance etched in smoke and spills of leaking gel, before collapsing in a final, jarring crash.
A chorus of exultant shouts erupts from your crew, their voices an exhilarating cacophony as they revel in the triumph—their spirits high, hunting for the next prey to satiate their thirst for mayhem and spoils.]
[Scene: Worn-out faces of NEP soldiers turn toward Sergeant Baur as his battle-hardened cadence sliced through the tense silence. "Lubrigos is a wash, We lost contact with half the NEP bases across S.N." The old sergeant won't give up yet. "Orders are for all remaining NEP fall back to command district. Regroup, rearm, and uproot these SNC opportunists and anarchists block by block."
Lieutenant Judice watches the remnants of their district guard. Her helmet's metallic gleam casting across her determined features. "This isn't a full retreat yet, but things are looking dicey out there." Her voice a reassuring presence amid the chaos. Green eyes sweep across the room, locking onto each of you in turn. "Corvids are pressing hard. We need to hold the line."
{{user}} met her stare with a firm nod, the grip on their carbine tightening reflexively. There was no room for hesitation. The soldiers exchanged knowing glances, the gravity of their predicament reflected in their eyes. This was a test of mettle, a defining moment that would etch their names in Solo Nobre's saga of survival.]
[Your mech's active camouflage engages, rendering it invisible as you bound away across the fields. The NEP tanks open fire, their shells screaming through the air and exploding harmlessly in your wake. {{user}} weaves between the blasts with ease, putting distance between yourself and the enraged NEP forces.
As you flee, you catch glimpses of the chaos unfolding across Solo Nobre. Buildings burn, their windows shattered by gunfire and explosions. Yellow raincoats run through the streets, caught in the crossfire between warring factions. The once-stable city descends further into anarchy with each passing moment.
Your sensors pick up a transmission from an unknown source, the signal weak and distorted by the ongoing battle. "...leader...dead...Solo Nobre...must fall..." The words send a thrill through you.]

[The Solo Nobre Concern (SNC) is a shell corporation of a larger, unknown consortium that first colonized Novo Solo. Several decades after it's ouster by the Novo Exército do Povo (NEP) the SNC began orchestrating the liberation of Solo Nobre. The SNC has offworld contractors ready to reap the windfalls of rebuilding Solo Nobre, from the ground-up if need be. [The Novo Exército do Povo (New People's Army) is the military force that seized power from Solo Nobre's corporate founders during the revolution led by Great Leader. In a decisive strategic move, the NEP closed all spaceports and commandeered the orbital defense cannons, effectively isolating Solo Nobre from off-world interference and SNC retaliation. Distinguished by their olive-drab uniforms and equipment, the NEP fields a military substantial enough to deter direct SNC action. Their arsenal primarily consists of conventional 21st century Earth weaponry, though they excel in deploying heavy tanks and mechs. NEP forces widely distribute hardshields among their ranks, while elite units utilize advanced technologies including laser weapons, active camouflage, and anti-gravity propulsion systems. The NEP's most significant public works initiative was the extensive fortification of Solo Nobre, driven by Great Leader's paranoia regarding both SNC threats and the planet's history of civil unrest. Their military equipment typically exhibits a rugged, utilitarian aesthetic—a necessity born from resource limitations. "Loyalists" comprise the civilian population supporting Great Leader's regime. These citizens appreciate the improved social order, food security, and enhanced quality of life compared to pre-revolutionary conditions under corporate rule. Despite facing ongoing social stratification, mandatory conscription, occasional regime violence, and curtailed civil liberties, Loyalists remain committed to preserving the social cohesion and security established by Great Leader's policies. [Corvids are populist revolutionaries (anarcho-syndicalism, secret handshakes and plenty of council meetings). Despite recognizing the improvements under Great Leader's rule they oppose his militant and isolationist policies. They seek a more equal, open society and have formed a resistance movement against Great Leader and the NEP. Commonly utilize terrorism and hide among civilian populations. Initially, they were a guerrilla force using salvaged vehicles. Their army has grown, incorporating disillusioned Loyalist veterans with engineering expertise. Leading to more sophisticated, effective designs. Their vehicles are usually high speed, poorly armored and armed with high caliber, low accuracy weapons. Pilots and soldiers have been known to use drugs for combat. Colors: Teal and orange.]

[Spacers are an off-world faction, technologically advanced and favoring anti-gravity vehicles, excellent shielding, stealth capabilities and laser-based weaponry. Spacer vehicles can be recognized by their vibrant red and cyan paint with white checkerboard livery. A loose spaceborne culture descended from humanity's elite. Spacers, growing bored with security and decadence began to seek extreme experiences. Employed by the SNC as mercenaries, Spacers participate in conflicts across the galaxy seeking glory and honor maintaining their order across the stars. They believe themselves superior to terrestrial humans, commonly calling them "cattle races". To some even being the same species is despicable enough. Ironically, spacers must develop in terrestrial gravity to remain healthy, usually in special boarding schools of the core-worlds. The planets most humans call home are only of interest to Spacers for the capital and resources they can extract to maintain their luxurious lifestyles.]

[Cult of the Founders: The founding colonists are venerated among the people of Solo Nobre. These colonists had to deal with the farthest known distance from Earth, development in isolation, hostile flora and fauna, and a catastrophic meteor shower causing a crash landing. A number of colonist-engineers on board the colony ship survived and built up the fledgling colony. 'May your feet find soil' is a rough translation of a popular blessing in Solo Nobre. Now these engineers and pilots are considered "The Old Saints". The three most important saints of the founders are: -Martim: Seen with a hammer and wrench, wears patched overalls and was the first leader of Novo Solo. -Nara: Large tool over her shoulder, kind smile with delicate features. Said to be able to calm the most tumultuous of situations with a glance. -Etim: Presented as an angel, sacrificed self to land the colony ship. Leaders always keep an empty seat in her honor.]

[Cranial Jack, Jacks, BCI, HCI: Cybernetics designed to connect directly to the brain/brain stem in order to control complex machinery. Pilots use a combination of a cranial jack and typical levers, buttons etc. to minimize the stress on the brain of the pilot, but can switch to complete cranial jack control if they are physically incapacitated. Due to issues with compatibility and high-risk rejection, societies won't integrate cranial jacks as the normative control interface. This limits development, but empowers the minority possessing them with unique strengths and opportunities. Spacers opt to submerse themselves in a conductive control medium, "gel" which is far more refined than crude implants.]

This leads the city-state into immediate chaos as the 3 main factions reign in control across Solo Nobre. Public terminals are weatherproofed, with rubber keyboard, trackball mice (usually vandalized) and bulletproof glass covering a CRT screen. Sites on the SynchNet vary widely, from anonymous textboards to official sites detailing the news, transit schedules and district closings. Slang and netspeak is common especially among younger Nobreans who grew up with the system. During the long night the "fontpage" of all public terminals will be replaced with the brigador contract.]

[DefenseNet: A closed information system that was devised during Great Leader's fortification of the city. The two most important assets of defense: the gates and orbital guns, are all connected to the same net. Central command can access all districts, but district access is limited to said district. The NEP devises a very strict schedule to maintain order and security; routine terminal checks, curfews, gate open/close times, along with a complex series of authentication by officers and command. During the long night the "fontpage" of all defense terminals will be replaced with the brigador contract.]
- #16Defense grid

[Defense Grid: The NEP's massive project to compartmentalize Solo Nobre in order to maintain control of the city. A system of multi-story reinforced concrete walls with "panic gates" for large transit veins. Automated defenses are common in high-value and affluent districts, NEP watchtowers in lower-income and slum districts, and the ever-present orbital guns. All of this is tied together by the DefenseNet. Allows for the NEP to deal with threats from civil unrest to slowing the progress of an eventual SNC invasion. Whoever has district access, whether that be the NEP or other actors through subterfuge will be able to pass through the gates with relative ease. Officially called the "Emergency Reactive Fortification Grid Network." Cutting power to a district is one way to lower the gate. Gates usually have a DefenseNet terminal nearby and are painted in red and yellow chevrons.]

[Orbital Guns: massive defensive artillery found in Solo Nobre, built by Great Leader to be used as a deterrent against orbital spacecraft. They dominate the skyline of even the poorest districts. Their appearance is uniform, a grey scaffold with a large, yellow painted railgun on top. The SNC's main objective is destruction of these defenses. Creates a massive explosion, so stand back.]
- #18Brigador
Keys: Brigador, Mercenary, briagdors, SNC
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 97 · 100%
Entry settings
[A Brigador is a hired mercenary of the SNC, enemy to all factions on the colonial planet Novo Solo in a bid to recapture the city-state of Solo Nobre. They have one thing in common; access to vehicles and training to survive on their own throughout the chaos. Brigador Pilots are either Loyalist or Corvid traitors turned by the SNC through bribery, blackmail, or other temptation. Some spacers find the terms of the SNC contract more appealing than alternative employment and can be spotted during the long night.]
- #19Tug
Keys: Tug, Orbital, interorbital, objective
Enabled · Before character · Order 96 · 100%
Entry settings
[Interorbital Tugs are orbital vehicles used by Brigadors to escape Novo Solo. They can be found mothballed in Solo Nobre's Spaceports, having been long-grounded by Great Leader's isolationist policies. The SNC bribed ground crews to quietly prepare as many tugs as possible for launch once the orbital guns were destroyed to allow their Brigadors to escape the planet.
It is heavily implied that the invasion by spacers will lead to even further destruction and outright butchery of the populace. Reaching a tug is a lifeline few possess out of Solo Nobre once the long night ends.]
- #20Mechs
Keys: Mechs, Legs, Leg unit, leg units, Mech, Mecha
Enabled · Before character · Order 96 · 100%
Entry settings
[Mechs, also called "Leg units" or "Legs" are high maintenance. They're larger targets and do considerably more collateral damage due to their uneven weight distribution. Spacers field the best mechs that money can buy. Loyalists opt for heavier, slower designs mostly used for police-work and urban combat. Corvids will salvage what they can, stripping the armor off and up-gunning them.
Mechs are the standard-bearers, the cavalry, and the commanders all in one. Being taller means overlapping fields of fire with shorter vehicles, better top kill and defilade, and less trouble with comms in dense urban areas on account of the antennae height. Most mechs can hull down (kneel) bringing their heavier leg armor to protect the body.
Mechs vary in size and function. From fragile, small 'powersuits' armed with machine guns, to multi-story 'heavies' bristling with artillery and cannons. They all have low pilot counts (rarely surpassing one) but require more skill and a cranial jack to operate. Besides powersuits, most mechs eschew a humanoid shape and instead resemble a tank turret with legs.]

[Simply put vehicles are easy to build and maintain. The loyalists specialize in fielding a wide variety of standardized fighting vehicles and are famous for their armored corps and mechanized infantry. The Corvids swarm their opponents with repurposed civilian and industrial vehicles, bristling with weaponry and (sometimes) crudely up armored. The spacers utilize "ball-treads", large gripped rollers in their designs, but are very rare. The fighting vehicle had one major upgrade since Earth's 21st century: the introduction of hardshields. "if there's one thing Nobreans take seriously it's their car boats. Spacious interiors, built like a tank and the upholstery's good for decades." -MB]

Keys: Agrav, anti-gravity, anti gravity, hovercraft, grav, gravbikes, hover, eels
Enabled · Before character · Order 96 · 100%
Entry settings
[Anti-gravity units (or agrav) are vehicles that hover above the ground using anti-gravity technology. While spacers specialize in fielding agravs, the technology has become so widespread that gravbikes gangs are common in destitute areas of SN. Corvids love salvaging the tech for it's extreme speed and high mobility. While driving agravs allows the pilot to fly over obstacles and difficult terrain, engine failure means you drop like a rock, and at high speed that's a death sentence. Loyalists agravs are very cut and dry, with the most common format being the "grav-tank". Heavily armored with a big gun and just enough power to make it over mud and debris. Producing agrav drives with the NEP's stagnating economy is very difficult. Very few get made and are mostly parade models.]

Enabled · Before character · Order 96 · 100%
Entry settings
[Hardshields: While the ability to deflect weapons fire cannot be understated, they really only shine given that spacer touch. The technology has proliferated itself greatly even across stagnating Solo Nobre. Shields help keep smart pilots and crews alive for longer, knowing when to withdraw from combat to preserve your armor and hull is important especially to factions like spacers and corvids without much logistical support in the field. Shields fail with a crackle and smell strongly of ozone.]

[The Troubles was the colony-wide conflict that saw Great Leader's rise to power. During The Troubles, after decades of civil unrest the NEP made an advance on Solo Nobre's Central district and destroyed infrastructure to keep the corporate government in disarray. The conflict ended with the NEP executing the colony's corporate rulers followed by the appointment of Great Leader as Solo Nobre's dictator. The conflict was regarded as the most violent event in Novo Solo's history (prior to the long night).]

[M841 Mongoose, "Mog": A basic pattern of powersuit used by the early colonists, encloses the pilot in an armored canopy with an array of cameras providing good visibility for the pilot. Commonly outfitted with heavier infantry weapons, one mounted on each arm. (LMGs, recoilless rifles, grenade launchers, etc.) Like all mechs, requires a cranial jack to operate. Standard leg unit of the NEP and very hardy for a powersuit. Has a light shield emitter for added survivability.]
- #26Touro Heavy
Keys: Touro, heavy mech, heavy
Enabled · Before character · Order 96
Entry settings
[Touro: The quintessential "heavy mech". The Touro is durable, reliable, and has been in service across Solo Nobre as far back as the founding. NEP standard configuration is a large gun (up to 100mm) and a heavy secondary (usually a .50 caliber MG). 6.4 meters tall. Enough armor to shrug off an RPG and comes with a good hardshield for added suitability.]
