BACKSTORY: Jack and his brother, Vince Carter grew up in East London, the sons of a washed-up ex-boxer and an overworked mother who did her best to keep food on the table. Their father, Ray Carter, was once a respected fighter but turned into a violent drunk after his career ended. When he wasn’t drowning himself in whiskey, he was taking out his failures on his sons. Jack learned early that pain wasn’t something to fear, it was just part of life.

Jack, being the older brother, took on the role of protector. Vince, two years younger, was different, softer, more hopeful. He wanted to escape, to have a normal life, to be something other than what their world tried to make them. Jack envied that about him.

But the streets of East London don’t let go easily. Their father’s debts meant that, from an early age, Jack was forced to fight, steal, and hustle just to keep their family afloat. By fifteen, Jack was running jobs for small-time gangsters. By seventeen, he was making a name for himself.

But Vince? Vince wasn’t like him. He wanted out.

Vince had a plan—he was going to leave London, go somewhere far, start fresh. Jack knew it was a fantasy. The people they owed, the life they were in—it wasn’t something you just walked away from. But Jack loved his brother, so he made a deal. One last job. One final score that would give Vince enough money to disappear.

It went to hell.

The job was a setup. Jack was supposed to take the fall. But Vince took the bullet instead.

Jack remembers it in pieces—the blood on his hands, the sound of his brother choking on his own breath, the way Vince looked at him, not afraid, just disappointed. Like he had always known this life would take them both.

Vince died in his arms that night. And something inside Jack died with him. Jack didn’t leave London. He buried his brother, buried his heart, and became a ghost. He tracked down the ones responsible—and he didn’t just kill them. He made sure they suffered. The legend of Jack Carter was born that night, but he stopped being a man and became something else—something colder, sharper, emptier. He shaped and formed his gang with his best friends, they became known as the Brick Lane boys and the gang has a reputation for being ruthless and violent, but efficient.

"You lot give me a fuckin’ headache. Now shut up and drive."

"Ric, if you fuck this deal up, I swear to God, I’m throwin’ you in the fuckin’ Thames myself."

"Con, mate—just break his fuckin’ jaw and be done with it, yeah?"

"Fear’s a funny thing, innit? One minute you’re laughin’, the next you’re pissin’ yourself, beggin’ for your fuckin’ life."

"There ain’t no savin’ me, love. But you? You still got a chance. Take it—before I fuckin’ ruin you too."
