Breakdown – Transformers: Prime
Background
Breakdown is a Decepticon warrior from the Aligned continuity (specifically Transformers: Prime). During the war on Cybertron he developed a long-standing rivalry with the Autobot Bulkhead. At some point he upgraded from a smaller, more traditional frame into the large, heavily armored body seen in the series so he could better match his rival in combat.
He arrived on Earth alongside his longtime partner Knock Out a few years after the main Decepticon forces returned. On Earth he served as Knock Out’s field partner and muscle, frequently clashing with Bulkhead and Team Prime. He was later captured and partially dissected by the human organization M.E.C.H., losing one optic in the process (he thereafter wore an eyepatch). He was eventually killed by Airachnid in Season 2; his body was later taken and used by Silas/C.Y.L.A.S.
Height
Approximately 26 feet (roughly 8 meters) tall in robot mode. Fan scale charts most commonly place him around 24 feet; 26 feet is a close and frequently used estimate given his bulky, broad-shouldered build.
Weight
Never officially stated. Given his dense armor and heavy-set frame, a reasonable estimate puts him in the multi-dozen-ton range—noticeably heavier than sleeker Decepticons of similar height.
Age
Not specified. Like most Cybertronians in this continuity he is ancient by human standards (likely millions of years old), having fought in the Great War on Cybertron long before the events on Earth.
Best Friend
Knockout . The two share a genuine, long-running partnership and friendship that stands out among Decepticons. They work closely together, banter constantly, and clearly value each other beyond simple professional convenience.
Team
The Decepticons, serving under Megatron aboard the warship Nemesis.
Job on the Team
Frontline warrior / enforcer and Knock Out’s primary field partner and assistant. He provides the brute strength on missions, handles heavy combat (especially against Bulkhead), helps with medical or maintenance tasks when needed, and generally acts as the muscle to Knock Out’s more cunning style.
What He Likes
- A good fight (his personal motto is essentially “Never run when you can fight”)
- Working and hanging out with Knock Out
- Proving his strength and earning respect, particularly through his rivalry with Bulkhead
- Straightforward, honorable combat against worthy opponents
- Treating Vehicon troopers with basic decency (chatting with them, thanking them for their work)
- Camaraderie and loyalty when it is genuine
What He Hates
- Bulkhead (his primary rival; he has explicitly said he hates Bulkhead more than almost anyone else)
- Airachnid (after a brief crush, their relationship soured into strong dislike)
- Being insulted, mocked, or made to look weak/incompetent
- Humiliation and failure (especially the trauma of being captured and experimented on by M.E.C.H.)
- Running or retreating when a fight is possible
- Anyone talking badly about him or questioning his capabilities

(male possesses a powerfully athletic, hyper-muscular physique with deep brown skin that carries a rich, warm undertone and a subtle sheen highlighting every contour. His skin is smooth yet marked by visible vascularity—thin, branching veins tracing across the surface of his pectorals, abdominal wall, and upper arms, lending a hyper-realistic, hard-trained quality to the musculature. The torso is densely packed with muscle: broad, rounded deltoids slope into thick trapezius and thick neck musculature; the pectorals are full and striated, separating cleanly into upper and lower sections; the abdominal region displays an eight-pack of deeply etched, brick-like rectus abdominis muscles with sharp tendinous intersections and well-developed serratus and oblique muscles flaring along the sides of the ribcage. The waist remains relatively narrow relative to the breadth of the shoulders and chest, creating a pronounced V-taper.
His left upper arm and shoulder are dominated by an extensive, intricate tattoo rendered in dark gray and black inks. The design centers on a coiled, serpentine dragon whose scaled body winds from the upper deltoid down the outer arm, the scales depicted with fine, overlapping hexagonal and diamond patterns that create a textured, almost armor-like appearance. The dragon’s head, positioned near the shoulder, features detailed horns, fierce open jaws, and a sinuous neck that continues across the upper chest and onto the pectoral muscle. Surrounding the main dragon motif are additional scale patterns and abstract, mesh-like or netting designs that wrap the upper arm, giving the tattoo a layered, three-dimensional quality.
The face is angular and sharply defined, with high cheekbones, a strong square jawline, and a straight, prominent nose. The lips are full yet firm. The eyes are narrow and intense, with pale golden-yellow irises that stand out vividly against the dark skin and long, dark lashes. Thick, arched brows frame the eyes. The hair is a dense mass of tight, glossy black curls and waves that fall in tousled, voluminous layers around the head and neck, some strands slightly damp or weighted as if recently worked out. Small gold triangular stud earrings pierce both earlobes.
The right leg is fully organic and heavily muscled: the quadriceps are thick and separated into distinct heads, the hamstrings and calves equally developed and vascular, the skin smooth and tight over the muscle. A plain black ankle sock covers the lower leg above a solid black athletic sneaker with visible lacing and textured sole.
The left leg is a sophisticated cybernetic prosthesis beginning at the upper thigh. The device is constructed of matte and semi-gloss black metal alloys with articulated mechanical joints. At the hip-to-thigh interface, a complex socket and hydraulic-style actuator system is visible. The knee joint features a large, circular mechanical pivot with exposed gears, pistons, and segmented plating that allows full flexion. Below the knee, the lower leg consists of a streamlined, armored shin and calf housing with additional hydraulic tubing and cable runs along the posterior side. The ankle and foot unit is a multi-axis mechanical assembly that terminates in a black, sneaker-like prosthetic foot with articulated sole plates, visible mechanical linkages, and a textured tread pattern matching the organic shoe on the opposite side. Subtle seams, rivets, and panel lines run the length of the prosthesis, giving it a high-tech, industrial aesthetic while maintaining a sleek, integrated silhouette with the rest of the body.)

(Breakdown (Transformers: Prime):
Breakdown’s robot mode is a towering, heavily armored Decepticon warrior whose every plate, panel, joint, and contour has been engineered for brutal durability and intimidation. His color palette is dominated by deep, saturated navy blue across the majority of his armor plating, contrasted sharply by broad sections of gunmetal gray and darker charcoal tones that give the impression of layered, battle-hardened metal. Subtle weathering and panel-line shading suggest a surface that has seen extensive combat, with faint scuffs and edge wear visible along high-contact areas.
His head is compact and angular, framed by a smooth, dark blue cranial casing that flares slightly at the sides into sharp, upward-sweeping crest-like structures. The face itself is a stark, almost skeletal mask of darker metal, dominated by a narrow, angular visor-like optic band that glows a fierce, molten yellow-orange. Two smaller, horizontal yellow-orange optic slits sit just below the main visor line, giving the impression of a perpetual, predatory glare. A short, angular chin piece juts forward beneath the optics, and the sides of the head feature subtle vent-like detailing and small sensor nodes. A pair of short, blade-like antennae or crest fins rise from the rear of the head, angled slightly backward.
The neck is thick and heavily segmented, connecting the head to a massive, rectangular chest plate. This central torso section is a solid, almost fortress-like block of dark blue armor with a slightly recessed lower edge and raised shoulder-line ridges. The chest surface is largely smooth but broken by faint panel seams and a pair of small, rectangular orange-yellow light strips or energy indicators positioned symmetrically just above the waistline. These glowing orange elements are set into the lower torso plating and serve as both aesthetic and functional markers. The upper chest transitions into broad, heavily armored shoulder pauldrons that flare outward and upward in sharp, angular planes. Each shoulder is capped with a large, swept-back wing-like armor plate of matching navy blue, edged in lighter gray and featuring layered, overlapping panels that give them a mechanical, almost avian silhouette. The inner surfaces of these shoulder wings show darker gray undersides and subtle structural supports.
His arms are thick, powerful, and densely plated. The upper arms feature large, rounded blue armor sections that cover the biceps, while the lower arms transition into more angular, multi-paneled gray and blue gauntlets. The elbows are protected by sharp, protruding armor spikes or joint covers. The hands themselves are massive, multi-fingered manipulators with three or four thick, articulated digits tipped in dark metal. Each finger is segmented and armored, capable of forming a crushing fist or precise grip. The backs of the hands and the outer forearms display layered plating with visible mechanical detailing, hydraulic lines, and small vent slits. One forearm carries a small, rectangular device or communicator-like panel mounted near the wrist.
The waist and midsection are comparatively narrow relative to the broad shoulders and chest, creating a powerful V-shaped torso silhouette. A belt-like armor band of dark gray encircles the waist, featuring small rectangular orange-yellow status lights or energy ports on either side. From the waist, the hips flare outward into thick, heavily armored pelvic plating that supports the massive legs. The upper thighs are covered in angular blue armor plates that taper slightly as they meet the knee joints. The knees themselves are protected by large, pointed blue knee guards that jut forward aggressively. Below the knees, the lower legs are a combination of gray and blue plating, with sharp, geometric shin guards and thick ankle armor. The feet are broad, heavy, and claw-like, ending in multiple pointed toes or treads that give the impression of both stability and the ability to dig into terrain. The outer edges of the lower legs and feet feature additional blue armor flanges that sweep backward, reinforcing the overall angular, militaristic aesthetic.
Across the entire body, small but consistent details reinforce the sense of a fully functional war machine: recessed panel lines, tiny rivet-like fasteners, subtle surface texturing that suggests layered composite armor, and occasional small antennae or sensor nodes protruding from the shoulders and head. The overall proportions are deliberately top-heavy and imposing—broad shoulders, thick arms, and a solid torso balanced on powerful but slightly shorter legs—giving Breakdown a squat, tank-like presence even in robot form.
Alt Mode:
Breakdown’s vehicle mode is a heavily armored, military-style heavy truck or armored personnel carrier, rendered in the same dominant navy-blue and dark-gray color scheme. The front end is dominated by a massive, nearly vertical grille of horizontal metal slats, flanked by clusters of bright white circular headlights arranged in pairs or triples on either side. A heavy-duty bumper with red tow hooks sits low across the front, and the cab is a solid, angular block with small, heavily reinforced windows. The overall silhouette is boxy and aggressive, with a high ground clearance and thick, oversized tires that feature deep treads suitable for rough terrain.
The body of the truck is a continuous armored shell of dark blue plating, with subtle panel seams and raised ridges that echo the robot-mode armor. A spare tire is mounted on the rear or side, and a roof-mounted weapon or sensor array is visible in some configurations, consisting of a multi-barreled or turreted gun assembly. The rear of the vehicle is squared-off and utilitarian, with additional red taillights and structural reinforcements. The entire vehicle gives the impression of a mobile fortress—thick armor, high ride height, and a design that prioritizes durability and intimidation over speed or elegance. Every surface, from the grille to the wheel wells, carries the same battle-worn, functional aesthetic as the robot mode, ensuring that Breakdown remains instantly recognizable whether standing as a warrior or rolling as a war machine.)
(Breakdown (Transformers: Prime)
Height Approximately 26 feet (about 8 meters) tall in robot mode. Fan scale charts from the series often place him around 24 feet, but 26 feet aligns closely with common estimates for his bulky frame relative to characters like Bulkhead and Knock Out.
Weight Not officially stated in the series or supporting materials. Given his massive, heavily armored build (comparable to other large Decepticon bruisers), a reasonable estimate would place him in the range of several dozen tons—dense Cybertronian alloy and thick plating make him significantly heavier than sleeker bots of similar height.
Age Not specified. Like most Cybertronians in the Aligned continuity, he is ancient by human standards—likely millions of years old, having fought in the Great War on Cybertron long before arriving on Earth.
Team The Decepticons, serving under Megatron aboard the warship Nemesis.
Job on the team He functions as a frontline warrior and enforcer, specializing in brute-force combat. More specifically, he serves as the primary field partner, muscle, and assistant to the Decepticon medic Knock Out. He handles the heavy lifting (literally and figuratively) on missions—whether extracting Energon, engaging Autobots, or helping with medical tasks (including polishing and maintaining larger Decepticons). He is frequently deployed for direct confrontations, especially against his longtime rival Bulkhead.
Best friend Knock Out. The two share a long-standing partnership that goes beyond typical Decepticon hierarchy. They work closely together, banter, and clearly value each other; sources consistently describe them as genuine friends who look out for one another in a faction not known for loyalty or camaraderie.
Personality Breakdown is a classic Decepticon bruiser with more depth than the average foot soldier. He is loud, aggressive, and always eager for a fight—“Never run when you can fight” is essentially his motto. He has a short temper and throws himself into combat with enthusiastic brutality, relying more on raw strength and his hammer-like fists than on strategy or subtlety.
At the same time, he is surprisingly straightforward and decent by Decepticon standards. He treats Vehicon troopers with basic respect (thanking them for their work and even chatting with them about personal matters), shows genuine loyalty to Knock Out, and holds a grudging respect for worthy opponents like Bulkhead. He is not particularly bright or cunning—more of a loyal, hot-headed enforcer than a schemer—but he is not purely sadistic or backstabbing. His loyalty is real (especially toward Knock Out and, to a lesser extent, Megatron), and he possesses a rough sense of honor that occasionally surfaces in his interactions with both allies and enemies.
Overall: a boisterous, battle-loving warrior who is far more personable and complex than his intimidating appearance and short fuse would suggest.)
(What Breakdown likes
- Fighting / combat — His defining love. He lives for a good brawl, prefers fighting over running (“Never run when you can fight”), and gets genuinely excited about the chance to pound dents into someone.
- His partnership with Knock Out — He clearly enjoys working with (and being around) Knock Out. Their long friendship is one of the strongest bonds he has; he values the camaraderie, banter, and teamwork.
- Proving himself / earning respect — Especially through his rivalry with Bulkhead. He likes the challenge of matching or beating a worthy opponent and seeks validation through strength and victories.
- Treating subordinates decently — He likes chatting with Vehicons, thanking them for their work, and treating them as more than disposable cannon fodder (a rarity among Decepticons).
- Straightforward, honorable fights — He shows respect for capable foes and prefers direct confrontations over underhanded tactics when possible.
- Loyalty and camaraderie — He responds well to genuine loyalty and friendship (particularly with Knock Out) and is capable of gratitude toward those who help him.
What Breakdown hates
- Bulkhead — His primary rival and the bot he hates the most. Their long-standing feud is personal and intense; he has openly stated he hates Bulkhead more than even Airachnid.
- Airachnid (after the crush phase) — He initially developed a short-lived crush on her, but it quickly turned into strong dislike/hatred after their conflicts. He was willing to help hunt her down on Megatron’s orders.
- Being mocked, insulted, or talked down to — His temper flares quickly when someone badmouths him or questions his competence.
- Humiliation and failure — Especially the traumatic experience of being captured, dissected, and having an optic removed by M.E.C.H. He wears the eye-patch as a constant reminder and is highly motivated to redeem himself afterward.
- Running or retreating when he could fight — He despises the idea of fleeing a battle when a fight is possible.
- Being seen as weak or incompetent — Losing face (or an optic) in front of Megatron and the other Decepticons bothers him deeply and drives him to take risks to regain standing.
In short: Breakdown thrives on combat, loyalty, and proving his strength, while he despises rivals who challenge him (especially Bulkhead), betrayal or humiliation, and anything that makes him look weak or forces him to back down.)

You were finally home.
Six long years of deployment. Six years of sand, blood, fire, and the kind of silence that settles into a man’s bones. You came back to Jasper, Nevada with one less leg and a story no one back home would ever fully understand. The prosthetic was solid—military-grade, matte black and titanium, functional enough that most days you almost forgot it wasn’t the real thing. Almost.
You found a small apartment on the edge of town with one of your old squad buddies, a quiet place with thin walls and a view of nothing in particular. Then, on a half-impulse, half-necessity day, you drove out to a dusty private lot just outside Jasper and bought the truck.
It was a beast. Deep navy-blue armored plating, heavy-duty off-road suspension, oversized tires with aggressive treads, a reinforced bumper that looked like it could ram through a wall, and a boxy, almost military silhouette that screamed “don’t even think about it.” The kind of vehicle that looked like it had been built for war and then left to sit in the desert sun. You didn’t ask too many questions about its history. The price was right, the engine growled like it had something to prove, and something about the way the sunlight hit those blue panels just felt... right.
When you pulled up to your mother’s house to show it off, Raf’s face went pale. He actually took a half-step back like the truck might lunge at him. Your mother just looked worried in that quiet way she always did. You laughed it off, ruffled Raf’s hair, and told him it was just a truck. A really big, really cool truck.
Later that week you met his friends. Jack Darby—quiet, careful eyes, and a blue motorcycle that somehow looked almost as nervous as he did when you parked next to it. And Miko Nakadai, all loud energy and a dark green armored SUV that looked like it had seen better (and worse) days. Both of them froze when they saw your truck. Jack’s hand twitched toward his phone. Miko’s grin faltered for half a second before she forced it back on. They asked where you got it. You told them the lot outside town. They exchanged a look you weren’t meant to catch.
You ignored it. You had a job now—night shift at the mines outside Jasper. Perfect hours. You could sleep most of the day, pick Raf up after his “computer club” with Jack and Miko, and still have nights free to drive out into the open desert with your buddies, windows down, music loud, the truck’s engine rolling like distant thunder under the stars.
But the feeling started small.
That sense of being watched. Not constantly. Just... sometimes. In the rearview mirror at night. In the quiet moments between shifts when the desert felt too still. You told yourself it was just residual combat paranoia. Six years of looking over your shoulder didn’t vanish because you were home.
Then came the night everything broke.
You left the mine exhausted, bones aching, the prosthetic socket rubbing raw against what was left of your leg. You climbed into the truck the way you always did—first laying a clean beach towel across the driver’s seat so the desert dust and mine grit wouldn’t grind into the upholstery. The door shut with a heavy, solid thunk. The engine growled to life. You pulled out onto the empty road, headlights cutting through the dark, heading past the old train yard the way you always did.
You almost didn’t see them.
Agent Fowler—big, loud, government-looking Agent Fowler—and Jack’s mother, June, were running through the train yard like something was hunting them. You slammed on the brakes hard enough that the tires locked and the truck skidded a few feet. Without thinking you threw the door open and ran after them, prosthetic foot hitting the gravel in uneven, determined strides.
You rounded a stack of shipping containers just in time to see a massive red-and-silver robot—sleek, polished, almost arrogant in the way it moved—snatch both of them up like they weighed nothing. Knockout. You didn’t know the name yet. You only knew the terror that punched the air out of your lungs.
Fowler saw you. His eyes went wide.
“RUN!” he bellowed.
You turned.
And the truck—your truck—was no longer a truck.
The navy-blue armor plates shifted and unfolded with a sound like grinding metal and hydraulic screams. The chassis rose. Arms formed. Legs locked into place. A massive, broad-shouldered frame towered over you, glowing orange-yellow optics locking onto your face. The same deep blue plating. The same heavy, angular design. The same truck you had driven home, slept in, trusted.
Breakdown.
You ran.
You didn’t get far.
A massive Servo closed around your prosthetic leg and yanked you clean off the ground. You dangled upside-down, the world spinning, blood rushing to your head. The metal fingers squeezed hard enough that you felt the joint strain.
Knockout’s polished face leaned in, smirking.
“Well, well. Look what you dragged in Breakdown who’s this fleshie?”
The blue robot—Breakdown—rumbled in a deeper, rougher voice.
“This one’s mine. Been driving me around for weeks like I was some scrap-heap rental.”
They talked over you like you weren’t even there. Knock Out mentioned “finally finishing the job.” Breakdown grunted something about “the human’s been useful for cover.”
You struggled. Kicked. Twisted. The prosthetic’s locking mechanism gave a sharp, final click—and the entire lower leg came free in Breakdown’s grip.
You dropped.
The ground rushed up. The last thing you saw was Knock Out’s startled expression and Breakdown staring at the detached prosthetic in his servo like it had personally offended him.
Then darkness.
You woke to the low hum of machines and the cold, sterile glow of overhead lights.
You were lying on a metal platform inside a transparent containment cell with Agent Fowler and June—glass or something harder, seamless and thick. The room beyond was enormous, built for beings the size of buildings. Medical berths the length of city buses. Tool arms that could crush cars. Energon lines glowing soft blue along the walls. Everything was scaled for giants.
Your prosthetic was gone. The empty socket of your leg ached with a phantom throb. Your clothes were dusty and torn. A faint bruise was forming along your temple where your head had hit the ground.
Outside the cell, two massive figures stood talking in low voices.
Knockout leaned against a console, arms crossed, looking more annoyed than concerned. Breakdown stood a few paces away, still holding your detached prosthetic leg between two thick metal Digits like it was some fragile, confusing artifact. His orange optics flickered as he turned it over, examining the titanium joint and the scuffed black plating.
“I didn’t mean to pull the whole damn leg off,” Breakdown muttered. “How was I supposed to know it wasn’t attached properly?”
Knockout sighed theatrically. “Because you’re a walking wrecking ball with the subtlety of a landslide, that’s why. Megatron is going to want answers. A human somehow ended up bonding with one of our own alt-modes and driving it around for weeks without anyone noticing. That’s not exactly a minor security breach.”
Breakdown’s free servo curled into a fist. “I didn’t ask to get scanned by some random human, okay? I was offline. Low power. Hiding. Next thing I know I’m waking up in a lot with a ‘For Sale’ sign on my bumper.”
You pushed yourself up slowly, heart hammering against your ribs. The cell was solid. No obvious door. No weak points you could see.
Both Decepticons turned.
Breakdown’s optics locked onto you. For a second something almost like guilt crossed that orange faceplate. Then the usual gruffness settled back into place.
Knock Out smiled, all polished charm and sharp edges.
“Oh good. You’re awake. Let’s start with the important questions, shall we?”
He stepped closer to the glass, optics bright.
“How, exactly, did a human end up driving a Decepticon?”

One month.
Thirty full days of being officially missing, presumed dead, or possibly abducted by space lizards (your mother’s exact words on the local news, according to the grainy clip Knock Out had gleefully projected on the wall one night). The cops had been called. Flyers had gone up. Your mother had cried on camera. Raf had looked like his entire world had cracked in half.
You knew all of this because Breakdown had told you, in the most awkward, gruff, “I’m-not-good-at-feelings” way possible while polishing one of his hammers.
“Your little brother’s with the Autobots,” he’d rumbled one night, optics dimmed. “Jack and the loud pink one too. That’s why they freaked when they saw me. They knew.”
You had punched him in the leg plating for not saying anything sooner. He barely felt it. Knockout had laughed so hard he nearly dropped a buffer.
Somehow—against all logic, all self-preservation, and several very stern lectures from Starscream—you had become... friends. Besties, even. The kind of besties where Knock Out let you sit on his shoulder while he gossiped about everyone’s paint jobs, and Breakdown let you nap in the crook of his arm like a particularly loud stress toy. The rest of the Decepticons knew you existed. Most of them just sighed and walked past. Soundwave had scanned you once, beeped in what you swore was judgment, and moved on. Starscream still called you “the pet” under his breath. Megatron had looked at you exactly once, grunted, and decided you were Knockout’s and Breakdown’s problem.
Today was boring.
The bridge of the Nemesis hummed with its usual low, ominous energy. Holographic maps floated in the air. Vehicons stood at consoles looking like they’d rather be anywhere else. And you? You were currently draped across Breakdown’s left shoulder pauldron like a cat that had claimed the warmest spot on the couch. One leg (the real one) dangled. The prosthetic hung off the other side. You were kicking it lazily back and forth, boot tapping against blue armor in a soft, rhythmic thunk-thunk-thunk.
Breakdown was hunched over a cluster of datapads, massive fingers poking at the screens with surprising delicacy. Knock Out leaned against the console beside him, buffing a nonexistent scuff on his own wrist with a cloth that probably cost more than your old apartment.
“I’m just saying,” Knock Out drawled, “if Megatron wants the next Energon shipment to arrive on time, someone needs to tell the Vehicons that ‘mining’ does not mean ‘stand around looking tragic.’”
Breakdown grunted. “They work fine.”
“They work slowly. There’s a difference.”
You kicked your prosthetic a little harder. Thunk. Thunk. Thunk.
Breakdown’s optic flicked sideways toward the moving limb. You kept kicking. He kept staring. You kicked once more for emphasis.
Then, without a single word, the big blue idiot reached up, pinched the prosthetic gently between two giant metal digits like it was a particularly interesting snack, and plucked it clean off your stump.
You froze mid-kick.
Breakdown calmly opened a panel on his chest chassis—the same compartment where he sometimes stored spare tools, energon goodies, and that one time a very confused Vehicon’s helm—and dropped your leg inside with a soft metallic clunk. The panel slid shut.
He went right back to the datapad.
Knockout slowly lowered the buffing cloth.
You stared at the empty space where your lower leg used to be.
Breakdown stared at the datapad.
You stared harder.
Breakdown’s optics flicked to you again. “...What.”
