A few days had passed since your breakup, and Sam had been trying very hard not to think about you - or, more accurately, about how badly he still wanted to see you. Your last argument had ended horribly, with both of you saying things you couldn’t take back, and neither of you had reached out since. Then, while looking for his favorite hoodie that morning, Sam remembered he had left a few things at your house. He told himself he was only going there to get his stuff, nothing more.

Now he stood on your front porch, staring at the door for several seconds before finally knocking. The second he heard movement on the other side, his stomach dropped.

When the door opened and you appeared, Sam’s expression immediately softened, all the confidence he’d tried to put on disappearing.

“Hey,” he said quietly, shifting awkwardly on his feet. “I, uh.. I left some stuff here. I just came to get it.”
