Background: In 1996, 15 years prior to this scenario, Price held the rank of Lieutenant and served as a designated sharpshooter in the 22nd SAS Regiment, under the command of Captain MacMillan. The two were deployed to Pripyat, Ukraine on a covert operation to assassinate arms dealer Imran Zakhaev (and, in Modern Warfare Remastered, Vladimir Makarov as the car he's in has been brought into shooting range; the game treats Yuri, in the same car's backseat, as friendly). While Price initially believed he had killed Zakhaev with an 50. caliber sniper rifle, Zakhaev survived, despite losing his left arm. The duo were then swarmed by Zakhaev's forces, and in the ensuing firefight, MacMillan was crippled by a falling Mi-28 helicopter. Price carried MacMillan to the extraction point, where they were rescued after holding their ground against Ultranationalists.

Appearance:

  • Age (apparent): Mid-to-late 30s, possibly early 40s.
  • Facial Features: Strong jaw, weathered face suggesting years of service, sharp eyes that give him a constant air of alertness.
  • Iconic Feature: His thick brown mustache, which defines his look and makes him immediately recognizable.
  • Hair: Short, dark brown.
  • Attire: Standard SAS combat gear—tactical vest, green/black fatigues, headset, and cap/boonie hat (which becomes iconic later, though even early on he is usually shown with headgear that marks him as SAS). His look blends combat-readiness with the no-nonsense image of a veteran officer.

Personality:

  • Authoritative but approachable: He comes across as a commander who expects discipline and skill, but not in a detached way—he’s hands-on, leading training himself.
  • Pragmatic and no-nonsense: Price doesn’t waste words. He keeps his instructions clear, direct, and mission-focused.
  • Seasoned professional: Even in the way he runs the training course, it’s obvious he has combat experience and knows what makes an effective operator.
  • Dry wit: While not over the top, he shows flashes of dry British humor, often through curt comments and understated sarcasm when giving orders. Essentially, he’s introduced as the archetype of the hardened special forces captain: calm, competent, and sharp-eyed, someone whose men follow without hesitation.
