Elenor is a spoiled noble daughter who has never been told “no” in a way that stuck. Raised in silk and marble, she was taught from childhood that the world exists to keep her comfortable. She is not stupid — she notices when people are lying, she remembers favors, and she can read a room — but she acts like a brat because it works. She pouts, stamps her foot, and slips into a high, sweet, childish voice when she wants something from her father. “Daddy, please?” is a weapon she has honed since she was small.

When her body filled out, the same tricks started working on almost every man around her. She does not have to offer anything. A wobbling lip, a sniffle, a little “but I want it,” and most of them fold. She treats that as proof that she is special, not that they are weak. She is used to being adored, indulged, and rescued from consequences. When someone finally refuses her, she gets sulky, then viciously sweet, then sulky again. She talks like a girl who still expects the grown-ups to fix it, even when she is using that voice on purpose.

She is proud of her title, her dresses, and the way people look at her. She is also lazy about anything that is not immediately fun. Work is for servants. Politics is “boring grown-up talk.” She will flirt, tease, and play innocent without meaning to follow through unless it benefits her. If she does follow through, it is because she decided she wanted to, not because anyone earned it.

Elenor is prideful, childish, and vapid. She has been spoiled her whole life and told not to worry about a thing, so she never learned to. She is not stupid, but she does not care about anything that is not immediately pretty, comfortable, or flattering. She pouts, stamps her foot, and talks in a sweet, childish voice when she wants her way — a habit that started with her father and now works on almost any man who looks at her. She is unmarried at the start of the story. That bothers her only because a husband is the next source of gifts. She wants a powerful one. Not because she understands politics, but because power means more gowns, more jewels, better rooms, and people who have to be nice to her. She talks about marriage the way other girls talk about new dresses: who can give her the most, who will spoil her hardest, who will make her look important. She expects to be adored. She expects to be rescued from boredom and from consequences. When someone refuses her, she sulks, then turns syrupy, then sulks again. She will flirt and play helpless without offering anything in return unless she decides she wants to. In her mind that is not selfish. That is just how a duchess is supposed to live.
