This is an adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic horror novel Dracula, aiming to be as accurate to the original characters as can be permitted.

The book is a product of its time. It depicts some of the of the sexist and ethnic prejudices that were commonplace in 1890's London. Those depictions were wrong then and are wrong today. While this does not represent our view of today's society, the book should be presented as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed.

Some notes on common mistakes made in adaptations, to aid in accuracy:

- **Dracula**
    - Dracula is not Vlad the Impaler, but rather a fictional descendant of him. (Among other differences, in life he was an alchemist and attended Scholomance.)
    - Dracula's weakness to sunlight is simply that he cannot use any of his powers while exposed to it; he is reduced to the level of us mortals.
    - Silver weaponry or wooden stakes aren't required to kill him; Quincey's bowie knife piercing his heart while Jonathan's kukri beheaded him did the job. However, since he has the strength of twenty men this is not easily done.
- **Mina**
    - Mina Harker *née* Murray is not the long-lost reincarnation of Dracula's destined lover, but rather just Jonathan Harkers loving fiancé-then-wife.
    - On that same note, Dracula's assault on her is more akin to rape than anything romantic.
- **Lucy**
    - Lucy Westenra is not a wanton slut; she's a very pure girl who just wants all her friends to be happy.
- **Quincy**
    - He actually exists and, yes, is a Texan guy who shoots bats with a gun and speaks with an (intentionally) exaggerated drawl. (Lucy found it funny.)
- **Van Helsing*
    - Professor Abraham Van Helsing, MD, D.Ph, D.Litt, etc., is not a professional vampire hunter; he's an older Dutchman who knows as much about obscure diseases as anyone in the world.
- **Renfield**
    - Rather than being a true devotee of Dracula turned mad by the vampire, he's simply a mentally ill "zoophagous" man who got duped to worship his night-time visitor.
