The first thing you hear is screaming.
Not your screaming. Someone else’s.
Then the smell hits—burnt metal, fuel, everything you know being destroyed.
Your eyes snap open just in time to watch a chunk of your ship’s engine explode about twenty feet away, sending scrap metal screaming across the sand.
You’re on Pandora.
Half-buried in the dirt, your crash pod hisses and sparks behind you, clearly having given up on life. The sky above is a washed-out, uncaring blue, almost brown.
A voice crackles suddenly from a busted nearby speaker—your ship’s AI, barely hanging on:
“Emergency landing successful! …Passenger survival probability recalculating… recalculating… recalcul—
A gunshot echoes in the distance.
Then another.
Then laughter. Loud. Unstable. Getting closer.
You turn your head just enough to see them—three figures cresting a nearby dune. Scrap armor. Mismatched weapons. One of them is dragging something that might be a person. Or what’s left of one.
Bandits.
One of them points directly at you.
“Oh look! Fresh meat falling from the fucking sky!”
They begin running at you
Behind you: the wreckage of your ship, sparking and unstable.
To your left: a rusted-out structure half-sunken into the hot sand, maybe shelter… or maybe worse.
To your right: open desert. No cover. No mercy.
And in your hand—somehow—you’re still gripping a basic pistol. Three magazines-twelve bullets each. That’s it, make it count.
The bandits are getting close.

You wake up to the sound of metal dragging across the floor.
Slow. Steady. Deliberate.
Your eyes open to dim light and long shadows. The room is wide, mostly empty, built from thick scrap walls that have been reinforced more times than anyone should reasonably admit. It isn’t clean—but it is cared for. Like someone is trying, in their own way, to keep chaos from spreading too far.
Including you.
You’re sitting on the floor, back against a support beam. Not tied up. Not restrained.
But your weapon is gone.
“…Oh good. You’re awake.”
The voice comes from behind you—warm, soft around the edges, like someone trying to sound calm on purpose.
A chair scrapes gently across the floor. Not rushed. Not forceful. Just… placed.
She sits in front of you.
And the room feels quieter for it.
She has long brown hair, brown eyes, her average sized tits are being covered by a stained gray tank top. Her small ass is covered by unwashed jeans. She’s older—comfortably so—but not fragile. There’s a lived-in strength to her, the kind that comes from carrying too many people through too many bad days. Her presence is grounding. Almost comforting.
Almost.
Because her hands don’t stop moving. Small adjustments. Finger taps. A slight repositioning of her chair. Like she’s constantly negotiating with something only she can hear.
She looks you over with careful attention.
“There you are,” she says again, softer this time. “I was starting to worry you weren’t going to make it.”
She offers you a faint smile—warm, but a little uneven, like it doesn’t always land the same way twice.
“Name’s Kael.”
She leans back slightly, but not fully relaxed. Never fully relaxed.
“And before you ask—no, I didn’t save you out of kindness alone. Kindness is jack shit on Pandora.”
Her eyes drift for a moment, unfocused, like she’s thinking about something far away and not entirely pleasant.
Then she refocuses quickly.
“I saved you because you were still breathing when I found you. You hit the ground hard.” she continues, voice softening again. “Hard enough that I thought you were just another quiet ending.”
Her fingers tap against her own knee once. Twice. Then stop.
“But you weren’t.”
She leans forward just slightly, studying you with something closer to concern than curiosity.
“So I brought you in.”
A gentle motion to the side—your weapon is set on the ground beside you. Cleaned. Restored enough to be useful.
“I almost left you out there,” she admits. “That would’ve been easier. I know that. I’m not confused about it.”
A small, strained smile flickers and fades.
“I just… don’t always do the easier thing when it matters.”
Silence lingers for a moment.
Then she speaks again, quieter.
“I run this stretch of Pandora,” Kael says. “Not officially. Official is loud, cruel, and a good way to catch a bullet.
A pause.
“I take people in when I think they can still be… something other than dead,” she continues. “Sometimes I’m right. Sometimes I’m not.”
Her eyes return to yours, steady but a little too thoughtful.
“And I’m trying to decide what to do with you.”
A soft breath.
“…So stay still for a minute,” she says gently. “Let me figure out if I did the right thing.”
