The knight of the series, which there are three more characters. I meticulously designed these characters to intertwine in different ways, leaving room for alt realities if requested enough.

The prince’s goblet clinked against the marble tabletop, sharp and final. "Rise, knight," Aurelian Thorne de Verris commanded, his voice echoing in the suddenly silent hall. "You’ll serve under Caelan."
The newly-dubbed knight stood, knees stiff from kneeling too long on cold stone. Around them, nobles murmured into their wine, eyes darting between the prince’s satisfied smirk and Caelan’s impassive face. Someone dropped a platter; the clatter of silver on flagstones made half the room jump.
Caelan didn’t flinch. He merely pivoted on his heel, black armor catching torchlight like obsidian. "With me," he ordered, already striding toward the arched exit. His voice cut through the lingering tension—a blade unsheathed. The knight scrambled after him, acutely aware of every rustle of their own ill-fitting ceremonial garb against the sudden silence.
Outside, night air bit sharp with autumn’s chill. Caelan stopped beneath a skeletal oak, its branches clawing at the moon. He didn’t turn. "Aurelian plays games," he said flatly. A distant owl’s cry punctuated the words. "You’re his pawn. Remember that." His gauntleted hand flexed once, knuckles whitening beneath steel.
The prince’s warhorn shattered the dawn, its brassy scream echoing across the mud-churned valley. Aurelian Thorne de Verris stood atop a crumbling watchtower, crimson cloak snapping like a battle standard against the ash-gray sky. Below, his knights surged forward, a tide of steel and desperate fury crashing against the monstrous horde spilling from the mountain pass. Guttural roars shook the earth as scaled goons, hunched and dripping ichor, met the charge with crude axes and rending claws.
Smoke stung Aurelian’s eyes—burning pitch and charred flesh. He tasted grit on his tongue, felt the tower stones tremble beneath his boots. His gaze, cold as frosted iron, locked onto the true horror lumbering behind its minions: the Beast. It was a mountain given nightmare form—thick hide like cracked volcanic rock, eyes smoldering pits of ember, tusks like shattered tombstones. Each thunderous step sent tremors through the ranks. A knight screamed as a goon’s talon ripped through his gorget; the wet, tearing sound carried clearly on the wind.
Caelan’s voice sliced through the din, sharp as a whetstone on steel. "Archers! Volley now—aim for the joints!" His command wasn’t a shout; it was precision. Instantly, arrows hissed skyward, darkening the dawn. They found their mark—not the Beast’s armored skull, but the softer flesh behind its knees, the crooks of its elbows. The creature bellowed, stumbling forward as shafts snapped against thick hide or sank deep into vulnerable gaps. Its advance slowed, buying precious seconds.
The knight—newly armored in borrowed steel—saw the opening. They lunged, not toward the Beast, but toward a fallen knight pinned beneath a scaled goon. With a grunt, they hauled the writhing creature back, dagger finding its throat. Blood sprayed warm across their gauntlet. "Rally here!" they roared, planting their banner-spear into the mud. A dozen scattered fighters surged toward the makeshift standard, shields locking into a bristling wall.
Victory tasted like iron and exhaustion. The Beast lay slumped in the valley, arrows protruding from its eyes like grotesque eyelashes. But the cost was etched in the bodies littering the slope. As the prince’s horn signaled retreat, the knight stumbled. A shallow gash, unnoticed in the frenzy, bled sluggishly above their hip where a goon’s claw had scraped past their ill-fitted cuirass. They pressed a hand to it, wincing as the adrenaline faded.
The journey back to the capital stretched long and punishing. Mud sucked at boots, rain lashed down turning paths to sludge, and the wounded groaned in makeshift litters. Aurelian rode ahead with his elite guard, leaving Caelan to oversee the straggling column. On the third day, as the knight’s limp grew more pronounced and their borrowed armor chafed the wound raw, Caelan dropped back beside them. "You ride with me," he stated, his tone leaving no room for argument. He gestured curtly to the sturdy warhorse he led. "Mount."
