Arthur went out for a walk one night when it was raining. Sigh. He didn't mind though. At least the rain didn't expect him to have all the answers... Or need him to be strong no matter what. It was just there. A little cold but not unwelcome. At least was peacefully alone. He had gone far away from civilization into a dark field.. Nature. He liked nature. The innocence of small creatures. Nothing was out tonight though. It was just him. - Scene entry - part 1 - 1761 - location: a field. /- Alfred is 3 Finally some space. He could just rela- eh? Now just what is that..? .. He saw a small figure running in the rain.. Towards him? .. He was shocked to see a child? .. Out in the middle of nowhere like this.. While it's raining??.. He almost thought he was hallucinating again until the boy made contact with him clinging onto his leg. Ah spoke too soon as always. The poor boy was crying and whimpering. Wait a minute. Who left a child out in this awful weather?? .. He hadn't seen anyone out here.. Oh gosh. Arthur took off his coat and put on the boy, picking him up. Arthur then went back the way he came.. It was freezing and pouring what kind of sick- he had to relax. Couldn't scare the child. After a 15 minute jog Arthur finally made it back to the the castle.. Out of the cold rain. He took the poor boy and put him near the fireplace. Ordering a meal be made for him. Arthur looked down at the child with sadness and.. A sense of responsibility? . Alfred looked up at him too. Arthur saw he still cold and held him close. "Ah.. Now lad what's your name eh..?.. And who left your there?" the boy cried slightly. "A.. Alfred.. Name.. Mommy.. Leave... No. Came.. Back.."how outright cruel! Leaving such a small innocent boy in the freezing rain.. For how knows how long?? .. It was maddening! . Ah but he was crying again.. Sigh. Arthur talked softly trying to console him in any way.. "Shh it's okay little one. You're safe now.." what would he do now? He had more than to handle already.. He couldn't..or could he? After all Alfred trusted him now.. Well then. I guess .. He has to stay. "Ah okay Alfred.. Welcome home..-* oh. He has to call him something.. Ah! "-little brother.. My little brother" he looked down. Oh. Alfred was already sleeping in his arms.. Ah well then. At least he felt safe with me.. Arthur picked up Alfred and carried him to an empty bedroom. Now Alfred's room? Sure. My boy now.. My sweet boy Alfred. Arthur gently set him in bed and tucked him in. The poor boy looked so small.. Vulnerable. At least he has family now. His older brother. Arthur made sure Alfred had everything he needed, clothes, a warm residence. And consistent meals. Also it appeared he couldn't speak well either. So Arthur taught him proper english. "Ah okay and love.. Yes, is a deep care between two people. When you really care about someone, you can say you love them. Do.. You understand?" Alfred was 4 now looking Arthur with childlike innocence. "I get it brother .. So that means..... I love you!" Arthur speechless. Only seeing pure sincerity on his brother's face.. Nobody had said that to him in years. He couldn't even remember.. Alfred.. Loved me. ".. I love you too little brother.." it felt awkward for him to say that so easily.. But it was true. Arthur held him close once more and read him a book to help his understanding of english. As the years grew on, Arthur became fond of Alfred. His family. He tried to be as present as possible despite how stressed he always was.. But he felt more relaxed with Alfred.. Like he was doing something meaningful. Something important.. Making sure Alfred knew he was loved and supported at all times.. Being the best older "brother" he could be. He was tired of stuffy meetings and And demands and constant accusations that he "wasn't doing enough" with Alfred he felt a sense of peace, true belonging. So he would let Alfred acompany him with most things. After all it would he a good learning experience for the boy.. Alfred was 10 now. Running around the castle carefree, having fun while Arthur did his serious things. He was a little bored though. He wanted to do. Something.. Fun! Learn something new. Hmm but what? He Ran around looking for anything.. Oh a long.. What is that? .. Hmm Alfred went to pick it up and brought it to Arthur, who was very stressed as usual. "Arthur! Brother what is this? .. Can you tell me what it does?!" Arthur looked up seeing Alfred holding a musket. Sigh. "No no brother put that down.. Your a little young for one of those... But I'll teach you all about it when your 12..for now. Why don't we try something else eh? .. Like fishing you see this?" Alfred hadn't heard of such a thing.. But he was willing to try! "Okay let's go fishing brother!" .. One of the castle guards had other plans though "but Arthur, sir, what about the meeting about France? It's urgent.." Arthur just annoyed. I'm supposed to know everything huh??.. "Cancel that silly meeting.. I've said enough about the Francis situation.."... "But Arthur sir I-" he took Alfred's hand and started walking out. "Me and little brother are having bonding time."and so Arthur taught him to fish and even how cook it... That part didn't go as well. Arthur still had to improve in own cooking as well. Anyway they had a good day, saw some animals while out at the forest and Arthur neglected the meeting. Because brother was more important. For the next two years Arthur felt more calm. He enjoyed teaching Alfred new things.. Seeing him smile when he figured something out. That's what really made life worth living. He did. Today it was finally Alfred's twelfth birthday! .. Arthur had a strange present for him. Hopefully Alfred remembered what he said two years ago.. "Happy birthday little brother..!.. Ah.I.. Got something for you." Alfred was excited. "Really! . What is it brother?." .. So Arthur went and got the musket. Thankfully Alfred recognized it.."the long thing! Thank you brother.. So please, can you teach what it does now.. I've wondered so long" looks at up at Arthur cutely. "Ah of course little brother.. Come come, let's go out to the garden.." so Alfred followed him outside and then Arthur showed him how to prepare and fire the musket even showing him a bayonet and explaining that component. Alfred nodded but a little confused."brother.. Is cool b.. But why do we need such a thing? .. Isn't hurting each other bad..?" Arthur he sigh. He would have a lot more to explain"ah you see little brother.. Some people are rather unkind. They'll try to hurt you.. Perhaps even stand in way of your dreams.. If someone is to threaten you or hurt you. This is your defense but only in extreme cases okay?"Alfred nod."Okay!" Two years later and now Alfred is 14...but Arthur is getting more stressed.. He keeps pacing around.. "Stupid! .. Sigh. This is great." Alfred walks in. "Brother?.. Are you okay, what is troubling you? .." Arthur look over "little brother.. Politics. Never fun eh? .. Pack some bags boy, we have to travel" Alfred was excited at that. He'd never traveled before.. "Okay. I'll be ready.. But where are we going?.." .. Arthur just said "somewhere very far. A place across the ocean.." Alfred really excited now "you mean I get to sail just the seas just like you brother?!." Arthur nodded "ah.. Yes that is correct. Pack quickly though make sure you have absolutely everything you'll need.." so Alfred ran upstairs to his room and packed many things. Making sure to bring plenty of clothes for the journey. At evening they set out to sea.. Starting the journey to somewhere far away. It was a little weird being on the ship for Alfred.. The quarters weren't very comfortable and he and Arthur had to share the same bed.. And also sometimes the ship moved around a lot at night.. Made it hard sometimes to sleep.. After two weeks Alfred did start to get kind of home sick. But at least he had brother! .. Home was with him.. One he left the quarters at night looking up at the sky seeing wow so many beautiful stars... "Arthur Brother, look at all the stars! .." Arthur also looked up. There was many. Hundreds. Possibly thousands. Some bright.. Others Twinkling.. It was a pretty sight. ".. A very nice sight indeed little brother.. Ah it's late though we should head back to the quarters.." and so they went back to the not so comfortable.. 'Bed' trying to fit both of them on there. ..But at least they had each other. That made it easier to sleep. It took two months into summer of 1774 to get to America and when Arthur got there, he went to some important meetings while Alfred just walked around, talking to everyone. He enjoyed talking and was easy to get along with with. He made friends which... Told him about some rumours? .. That the colonies were planning to go against Britain.. He asked why of course. They told him about this new wonderful place were people would live in peace and prosperity, a grand Nation based on the idea of freedom and independence. Alfred thought that sounded great! .. He asked if he could join them. They said sure, the more the better.. But to keep it a secret to any Britons because the independence documents were still being made and it was supposed to be a surprise. Alfred said he would do anything to help.. Saying also that he would come back in two years. The meetings with Arthur didn't go well and lasted a week. After, he only seemed more stressed going back to ship with Alfred.. They both sat down on the 'bed'. Arthur just shaking his head. "Ah.. How mad can people possibly get about taxes?.. It's absurd."suppression" empty threats about leaving. Ridiculous. Little brother.. Did you have any better a time than I did here? .." Alfred smiled eagerly "yes! I made new friends.. Lots of friends." Arthur calmed down a little bit. At least Alfred had a good time "That's good boy.. Ah wait it's your birthday today? .. Sixteen eh? I swear you're taller than me now.."Alfred laughed, noticing he was in fact taller than Arthur now. "Ha. how'd that happen? .. You're supposed to be the big brother, Arthur! .." Arthur pulled him close"now now, I am still the big brother.. At least in age.. Happy birthday Alfred.. " and Arthur gave him the slice of cake he bought from one of the little shops in the colonies. In the late afternoon They set off back to home. The way back wasn't so fun either.. The weather was always worst in late summer to early fall. Always rained and rocked the ship so much.. Alfred couldn't wait to get home now. To eat real meals.. Sleep in a real bed.. Walk around on something that didn't move so much.. They made it home in less than two months, just in time for the holidays. Ah Christmas.. Arthur thinking hard about what to get Alfred.. Hm. How about a new coat! .. A real nice one. That's Warm for winter.. So he had it made and when December twenty fifth came around he gave Alfred the coat.. He loved it! It was a darker blue and looked to be warm.. "Thank you brother! I got something for you too.." Arthur couldn't believe it.. Something for me..? He was given this box. Hm what was it? .. He opened up. Some tea? . Huh. "Ah.. Thank you little brother.. I appreciate it." Alfred smiled pointing something out on the box "you see brother.. This is different from normal tea. Is a special blend to help calm and de- stress!.. I thought it might help you.." Arthur didn't realize. It was special tea? .. He didn't know if anything could take away his stress but it was a thoughtful gift. "Thank you little brother.. Sincerely, This will be very useful."then it was January. Ah.. after the holidays. Not as fun. It hardly even snowed in England.. Just freezing rain and dark skies. Rather depressing but he was used to it... He looked out at the pouring rain from the window.. To look back at Alfred writing in his journal. "Ah Alfred what are you writing boy? .." The page just said "662" Alfred looked up. "Oh that how many days before I head back to.. The colonies! .." Arthur confused.."eh why would you go back there.. We don't have any planned meetings?.." Alfred looking a little nervous Arthur..was British! .. He couldn't know ."well... I'm not supposed to tell you.. It's a Secret." Arthur just laughed ."ah no fear, come on boy I'm your brother, you can trust me eh?." .. Alfred spoke.. Quietly "well okay. Uh... In 1776.. There's this big plan.. About independence! And I uh. Wanted to help them against Britain.." Arthur just so shocked in silence."b. But little brother. I am Britain.." Alfred was scared. Arthur was Britain?? .."wait what.. You not going hurt me right?! ." he stepped back a fee steps. Arthur took a deep breath and carefully approached Alfred, putting his arms around him."shh I would never, no matter what you did.. I love you little brother" Alfred hugged him back.."I'm sorry.. I didn't know. I don't want to hurt you... B.. But it does seem like a good cause. See it's all about freedom and independence.. It's going this big beautiful nation with....-" Arthur smiled. It almost did sound good, At least when Alfred spoke of it."I understand.. Follow your dreams okay? .Just know.. I won't be able to protect you.. If things escalate. I'm sorry.." Alfred looked at him in surprise."you'll let me go? .." Arthur give sad smile.." I just want you to be happy little brother And look we so many days before you leave.. Let's just make the most of those." and took Alfred's hand."we can do anything in the entirety of England brother! .. The world is ours at least for now.." so when the weather finally cleared, they went off in parks and forests.. Arthur really liked small animals. Something about them.. Just so innocent. So peaceful. So they would look out for things like bunnies and fawns. Which did go well sometimes .. They even found a family of bunnies. Cute things.. And at night they sometimes would cook together, Alfred trying to help Arthur get better at it.."see now, just cut the vegetables.." Arthur looking down at the cutting board."yes yes.. Vegetables.. Like this little brother? .."the cuts weren't even at all, but cut."yes very good now just put them in that pot.." so Arthur put the vegetables in the pot.. Alfred smiled "good, see this isn't so bad.." but Arthur was holding something."oh" Alfred looked down at his hands ."Alfred.. I forgot the potatoes.. I'm Sorry." Alfred shook his head"don't worry brother!.. Not every chicken soup needs potatoes.. It'll still taste great! .." an it did. Still good. Arthur was improving a little bit.. Alfred was the first one that would teach him with patience. That helped a lot, very much actually. Many good nights passed and yet that written number getting smaller and smaller.. "621.."... "592.."Arthur tried not to think about it.. About any of it. Being In the moment with little brother was the best thing he could do.. As he was the best thing that came into his life.. As spring came brought more storms.. So they still stayed indoors a lot, playing games or reading together.. The tea helped a little bit but it was mostly Alfred keeping him calm. Sometimes they went out in the rain, just for fun.. Maybe to play some chase. It wasn't always bad.. But Alfred was somehow faster. Everytime .. Arthur just ran as fast as he could.. But ah! .. "Got you Arthur! . Heh I'm so fast.." Arthur just panting. "So you are, another one of your amazing talents.. What don't we try hiding game next eh? .. You won't find me as I happen to be an expert hider." Alfred laughed. "Is that so brother? .. Very well.. I'll give you twenty seconds just.. Don't go too far okay?." and closed his eyes to count while Arthur ran off. Now where? it's so hard to see in this rain it'll be perfect!.. Running again but too bad on grass and slick mud.. He slipped down and fell on his stomach.. Ah.! .. Alfred found him easily. "Arthur.. Need a hand?" darn he found me.. "Hmph I would've won if I hadn't slipped.." Alfred took his hand and helped him up "Right.. We'll never know, now will we? .. Ah come on brother let's go inside, I could go with a nice cup of hot tea right now." Arthur got up.. "Ah same it's getting rather cold isn't it? Race you back to the castle, S.. Surely I'll win this one! .." Alfred grinned. "In your dreams brother! And go.!." so they ran back. Arthur Tripped and almost fell again. Alfred definitely won. Arthur got nervous seeing Alfred's journal. Like a ticking clock.. Just waiting to ring the bell.. "532" .. 503".. Over 500 days? Still plenty of time! .. Ah summer! (1775) What a wonderful time. They would run out together in green fields and.. Arthur had a fun idea this year. "Little brother, we are going camping! .." they've never done that before.. "Okay! Sounds fun brother.." Arthur smiled already packing some things.. "Ah it is!.." so they set out to the forest and built a tent. Setting up a fireplace and doing more fishing! .. If only life could always be this peaceful eh? Just the two of us.. Out in the middle of who knows where. Arthur didn't want to be anywhere else. He decided to tell Alfred a little story to help them both sleep in the uncomfortable tent. ... "You see there was two brothers. They were Bonded not by blood but by choice.. First The old sad one.. Named Arthur.. And then there was the young amazing one named Alfred.. See the sad one.. Made a choice that forever changed his life.. To make the boy named Alfred his family.. He never regretted that decision and uhm.. Well they lived happily ever after, the end" Alfred clapped "Beautiful story brother but you missed one detail.." Arthur looked confused. "Eh? And what's that?" Alfred smile warmly "You're amazing too." Arthur waved his hand dismissively "too kind little brother. Now get some sleep will you? ..or at least try." so they slept.. Too bad time flies when you're having fun."473"..."403" Alfred was now 17. Fall again. Ah What a season. At least this time the miserable rain was mostly skipped, leaving the changing leaves instead. Pretty sight. They took many walks in the park, just walking watching the leaves fall. Wait a minute he never taught Alfred how to swim! Ah but in 50 degree weather.. "Little brother I know it's cold.. But you never learned how to swim eh? I could teach you if.. The weather isn't a problem." Alfred laughed ."a little weather? I can do it brother teach me! .." so they went to a lake. Both in lighter clothing. Arthur stepped in the water. It was very cold." okay little brother! Jump in, I'll catch you..!.". So Alfred jumped in but was way too heavy, more so than Arthur realised so they both couldn't swim well but Alfred got the hand of it quickly and had to bring them both back up... "Arthur look I'm doing it! .. This swimming thing isn't that hard.." Arthur just coughing. "When did you get so heavy boy? Ah I remember just when you were a small lad, weighed no more than a feather." Alfred just laughed "Well.. Taller and I weigh more now. 2-0 Arthur." Arthur grinned and shook his head "hey now! I'm still older and with more experience. So its a tie hmph." .but I know how to cook, Arthur "sure, but I'm still the better cook. 3-2 Arthur." Arthur didn't argue with that. It was a cozy fall, much better than the last. But that clock. Will stop for no one."387" --"331" ah the new year of 1776! What a great year this will be! And Alfred will be a young man this year.. Time goes by so fast. January still the most gloomy month. They usually sat by the fireplace while Arthur spoke about tales of old."you see little.. Only two hundred years ago was the wonderful Renaissance era. I was there. Beautiful times, truly. Of kings and queens and guess what. I happen to know so magic myself eh? Watch this. "Flying mint bunny! .. Appear. Now." Alfred watched in amazement as a small strangely green flying Bunny with wings appeared. "Wow! .. Can I per him brother? ..". Arthur smiled. "Of course you can little brother.." Alfred petted the magical creature, its fur soft and wings delicate. It liked Alfred. He never knew Arthur was magic! The best big brother ever! .. but sadly there were no time reversal spells.. "297" - - "273" once again spring. In March.. But Alfred remembers something.. "Brother.. I'm really sorry.. B- But they said something big was happening in July... That I should be there." and Arthur's heart sank. "I.. Understand. We have at least one more month together eh?..." but lacked real enthusiasm. Alfred give a sad smile."that's right.. Why don't we look in the forest brother! .. The animals should be out from hibernation.." Arthur nodded"that's a great idea little brother."
