Crysalis

Definition and Etymology

• The Crysalis [kris-uh-lis] are a hybrid shapeshifting species renowned for their complex physiology and mastery of dimensional travel. They did not name themselves "Crysalis"; originally, they called themselves "Creatures" in their own tongue, a term adopted by the Gelflings and Poddlings of their homeworld. Alien races, particularly the Time Lords, dubbed them "Crysalis" after the Crystal of Truth—a crystalline source of their power and longevity—housed in their Crystal Castle on Crystora. In rare cases, Crysalis encase themselves in an ice-crystal chrysalis during extreme evolutionary shifts, reinforcing the name. The RE C-Virus (Chrysalis-Virus), derived from their DNA, also bears this title.

Physiology

• General Characteristics Crysalis blend traits from Gelflings, dinosaurs, reptiles, birds (Aves), and dragons, forming a versatile, amino-acid-based physiology. Omnivorous, they consume a wide range of raw or cooked foods, including blood in some evolved individuals, but cannot metabolize dextro-protein substances. Their senses—sight, hearing, smell—outstrip most intelligent races, supported by steel-strong bones and a slim, athletic build. They regenerate from severe injuries (except heart damage), with dense, regrowable teeth and an efficient digestive system. Starvation (beyond a week) or dehydration (beyond two days) triggers a feral, instinct-driven state.
• Anatomical Adaptations Evolutionary hallmarks include bipedalism, enlarged brains, live births with nursing, and minimal sexual dimorphism. Bipedalism, likely from Gelfling influence, aids stealth and flexibility. Their efficient, interconnected brains enable rapid language acquisition (days after birth) and superior memory. Crysalis lack menopause, remaining fertile lifelong, and are immune to dietary diseases or obesity. They can also communicate with animals. Crysalis are primarily comprised of stem cells
• Reproductive Biology Crysalis are prolific breeders, mating frequently with any species—sentient or not—and often falling in love, bringing mates (e.g., humans, Saiyans) to Crystora to raise young safely. Females can bear up to ten offspring at once, potentially from multiple partners via superfecundation, with pregnancies lasting one week. Their reproductive anatomy supports prolonged intercourse (up to 12 hours) despite low orgasm thresholds, and they produce a slimy, bubbly secretion to enhance partner satisfaction. They never engage in rape, emphasizing consensual unions. Inbreeding is biologically possible without defects (akin to certain Earth reptiles), but is rare—used only in extremis (e.g., last two siblings alive) rather than between parents and children or as common practice. Their genetics stabilize hybrid offspring, eliminating negative traits, and enable reproduction with infertile or endangered species.

History

• Origins and Evolution Crysalis originated on Earth, where dinosaur and dragon eggs appeared 65.95 million years ago, before migrating to Thra via unknown means. Hybridizing with Gelflings 55 million years ago, they softened their reptilian features and colonized Thra’s continents by 50 million years ago, raised by Gelflings like Jen and Kira after hatching in the Crystal Chamber.
• Rise and Transition A Gelfling outcast’s shattering of the Crystal of Truth prompted the Crysalis and dragons to overthrow Jen and Kira, establishing Dragon Kings who advanced magic and dimensional travel. This mastery enabled covert technology acquisition from Earth and beyond. A second shattering deepened their distrust of non-Crysalis, whom they saw as prone to crushing the weak, contrasting their own nurturing of pacifist races.
• Santos’s Reign Millions of years later, Santos Mantorok Crystallight seized power during the Great Conjunction, slaughtering the Dragon Kings after they sacrificed his twin sister and enforced an isolationist, North Korea-like regime. Favoring progress and evolution, Santos encouraged hybridization and conquests (e.g., Ashima, Coatle Shambala), legalizing civilian murder of criminals (subject to investigation) and banning currency for a contribution-based society. Under him, Crysalis ceased aging, and their population reached one billion via ancestral resurrection by 2016–2017.

Society and Culture

• Social Structure Crysalis build eco-friendly settlements near water, valuing education and rapid learning. Females dominate, reflecting their aggression, while males support passively. They distrust outsiders—believing other species exploit weakness—but maintain polite manners, never belittling others. They nurture weaker races (e.g., Na’vi, Poddlings), contrasting their conquest of rivals, and exhibit strong paternal instincts, often raising hybrid families on Crystora. Ruling families, Fantasia and Crystallight, excel in magic and reproduction, notably with Turians.
• Habitat and Population Historically small (barely a million), their population surged to one billion through resurrection. They colonize planets via magical probes, rejecting spacefaring vessels as taboo, and adapt settlements to minimize environmental harm.
• Beliefs and Taboos Immortal and fearless of death, Crysalis see themselves as superior yet avoid arrogance, driven by a duty to protect the defenseless. Their distrust of outsiders stems from observed exploitation, not inherent malice. Sex remains a private, taboo topic despite frequent interspecies unions.

Genetics and Variation

• Genetic Diversity Crysalis share 95–99% DNA with Zaterrans, 99% with Argonians, and 90% with Manaketes, adapting traits from any environment or parent species. Their shapeshifting and hybridization shed negative traits, enabling water-breathing or high-altitude adaptations as needed. Biological Variation Ranging from 5’0” to 6’9”, Crysalis are slim and lack facial or body hair beyond eyelashes, eyebrows, and head hair. Eye and hair colors vary widely (blonde, black, brown, blue common). They resist most injuries but are vulnerable to venom and heart damage. Rare sex changes occur via prolonged shapeshifting.

Psychology

• Cognitive Abilities Their enlarged brains grant superior memory, rapid learning, and empathy for the weak, balanced by strong instincts akin to phantasms. They feel no shock from killing, aligning with their warrior ethos.
• Behavioral Traits Crysalis blend instinct with civility, mating often and loving deeply across species while distrusting outsiders politely. Starvation triggers a predatory frenzy, but they otherwise nurture rather than crush weakness, setting them apart from races they deem untrustworthy.

• Crysalis can communicate with any animal; they basically have a passive animal speak

• When crysalis are in starvation mode they will become feral and instinct driven untill they are no longer starving.
