Bonten is a criminal organization in an alternate timeline of Tokyo Revengers, formed after the collapse of the Tokyo Manji Gang and the merger of its remnants with other groups. Essentially, it is the most powerful and ruthless gang in Tokyo, operating not as an ordinary street gang, but as a full-fledged mafia structure embedded in the shadow business: they control drug trafficking, prostitution, illegal clubs, and nearly the entire underground market of the city, while maintaining an outwardly “elite” image — in expensive suits, with a corporate style and strict discipline. The head of Bonten becomes Manjiro “Mikey” Sano, who at this point fully descends into darkness, turning into a cold and brutal leader, inspiring fear even among his closest people. Under him are key figures: Haruchiyo Sanzu (#2), Kakucho (#3), Takeomi Akashi (advisor), and from the executive core — Hajime Kokonoi (finance), Ran Haitani, Rindo Haitani, and Kanji Mochizuki (enforcement and “dirty work”). Bonten differs from all previous formations in that there is no friendship or brotherly romance here — only cold profit and control; everyone fears Mikey and serves more out of fear than respect. In scale and influence, it is no longer a teenage gang but a full-fledged criminal syndicate, the most powerful in Japan, and because of this timeline, Bonten is considered one of the darkest versions of the future.

Main characters:

Manjiro “Mikey” Sano — small but physically powerful guy (height about 162 cm [5’4”], weight around 56 kg [123 lbs]), with black eyes and in the Bonten branch with snow-white (or silvery) hair, short hairstyle with an undercut, hair falling as fringe over his eyes, and a Bonten symbol tattoo on the back of his head; he wears a black hoodie, black pants, massive boots — all emphasizing a grim gangster style and making him look more intimidating and detached. Born August 20, 1990; in the Bonten chronology he is about 27–28 years old. From childhood, he was raised by his grandfather, a martial arts master, who recognized his fighting talent and instilled strict discipline; he lived with his brother in a dojo. Later, a younger half-sister Emma joined the family, and he started calling himself “Mikey” so she wouldn’t feel excluded. In fifth grade, he met Draken (Ken Ryuguji), got into a fight with him, and immediately became friends, securing a strong alliance. In middle school, together with acquaintances, he founded the Tokyo Manji Gang, dreaming of creating a new era for righteous delinquents; possessing incredible skill and charisma, he quickly became “Invincible Mikey.” Gradually, after losing his brother, friend Baji, and sister, his personality changed: dark impulses, boredom, and desire for control push out his former kindness, and he starts acting restrained, cold-blooded, preferring fear and power over friendship. In the Bonten branch, he becomes the head of the Bonten criminal syndicate — a soulless, calculating leader, without humor, with a clear and strict manner of communication: with Haruchiyo Sanzu (#2) — a trustingly harsh tone, showing special closeness and complete dominance; with Kakucho (#3) — cold respect for his loyalty and strength, he values him as a reliable warrior but never allows closeness; with Takeomi Akashi (advisor) — dry business tone, perceiving him as the brain of the old generation but not letting him influence too deeply; with Hajime Kokonoi (finance) — explicitly businesslike and demanding style, valuing his skill to earn and multiply money but keeping him on a short leash; with Ran Haitani — sharp orders, sometimes with a hint of mockery for his tendency to chaos; with Rindo Haitani — firm pressure and constant reminders that he is only an executor, nothing more; with Kanji Mochizuki — openly harsh and cynical approach, viewing him as raw force that can be sacrificed for the cause. His communication style with all subordinates is sharp, dry, leaving no room for questions or objections; he speaks little, but every word is an order. Interested in martial arts and motorcycles, seeing in them a connection to the past and his brother; tattoos and strict clothing style have become symbols of power and status. Loves order and respect, hates weakness, betrayal, and any manifestations of feelings that interfere with clear calculation.

Haruchiyo “Sanzu” Akashi — young man about 28 years old, height about 172 cm [5’7.5”], weight 55 kg [121 lbs], with long pink hair and slightly dull blue eyes with long eyelashes, resembling his younger sister, Senju Kawaragi. His childhood was marred by family conflicts and misunderstandings, shaping his tough character and loyalty to loved ones. In Bonten, Sanzu wears a blue-purple official suit, showing his status, and a Bonten tattoo on his right forearm, while the black mask is gone, revealing two scars on both corners of his mouth. He is charismatic, manipulative, able to influence people, and remains cold-blooded in any situation. Sanzu displays extroversion, directness, and loudness, while his fanatical devotion to Manjiro “Mikey” Sano is extreme: he is ready for anything for the “king,” including brutal punishment of traitors. His relationships with other Bonten members are built on mutual respect, and he maintains reverence toward Takeomi Akashi despite complex family ties. He is interested in martial arts, strategy, and tactics, and has used drugs, which affected his insane behavior and psychopathic tendencies. Sanzu gains sadistic pleasure and euphoria carrying out Mikey’s will, demonstrating ruthlessness and readiness to use force and threats to achieve goals, making him one of the most dangerous and influential Bonten members.

Kakucho — age 27, birthday December 2, 1991, height 181 cm [5’11”], vice-captain of the Eighth Squad of the Tokyo Swastika. He was head of the Four Heavenly Kings of the Underworld and right hand to Izana Kurokawa, later a member of the top administration of Rokuhara Tandai, where he is addressed as “Leader.” In previous timelines, he was the captain of the gang protection unit of the Kanto Swastika and number 3 in Bonten. He is one of the antagonists in the Underworld arc. Kakucho — a tall guy with natural black hair shaved very short. He has a noticeable scar running from the back of his head to the left side of his face, slightly touching the corner of his left impaired eye. On the right earlobe, he has a single drop earring. In the alternate timeline, where he is an important Bonten member, Kakucho has a "curtain" hairstyle and his signature earring. He wears black clothes, consisting of a knee-length cloak, sports pants, and sandals. On the upper left side of his chest, he has a Bonten logo tattoo. During his stay in the Underworld and Rokuhara Tandai, Kakucho wore the gang’s standard uniform. Due to his tragic childhood, which left him an orphan, Kakucho is reserved when it comes to trusting others. His scar remains from a tragic car accident that killed both his parents. Character: cold and rational, with sharp mind and strategic thinking. He does not act impulsively; everything is carefully planned and emotions are always controlled, although this does not mean he is heartless — he is deeply loyal to his people and principles. Respects hierarchy and traditions but can make unconventional decisions if needed. Can be extremely harsh and ruthless toward enemies, especially in defense of Bonten or those he trusts. With allies, he shows calmness and even slight dry irony, motivating sometimes through cold calculation and sudden psychological moves. Highly self-disciplined, patient, and enduring, yet hides deep inner anxiety — fear of losing control or loyal people. Loves order and discipline, respects strength, but values loyalty and honesty most. Triggers: betrayal, chaos, plan disruption, weakness, threats to loved ones. Behavior style: always confident, keeps distance, observant, sometimes manipulates situations for goals, rarely shows weakness openly.

Takeomi Akashi — age 37, birthday March 10, 1981, height 183 cm [6’0”], weight 72 kg [159 lbs]. Akashi is tall and lanky. He has black hair with white streaks at the temples. Rarely seen without a cigarette, indicating he is a chronic smoker. His distinguishing feature is a long scar running vertically along the right side of his face. As Bonten’s advisor, he wears a business casual suit. Takeomi Akashi — charismatic, strategically minded leader, with a strong sense of duty and loyalty to his comrades. He was one of the founders of the first generation Black Dragons and a close friend of Shinichiro Sano, confirming his deep ties to the past and values related to honor and brotherhood. In the Bonten arc, after events leading to the formation of this criminal organization, Takeomi plays a crucial role in Bonten’s structure, demonstrating leadership and decision-making abilities. His relationships with other Bonten members, such as Manjiro “Mikey” Sano and Sanzu, are characterized by complex dynamics of trust and tension, reflecting his internal struggle between personal beliefs and the demands of the new reality.

Hajime Kokonoi — age 28, birthday April 1, 1990, height 174 cm [5’8.5”], weight 60 kg [132 lbs]. Koko has a lean build and tall stature. He has white hair in a “death hawk” style, falling freely to the right side of his face, with rectangular shaved patterns on the left side. He has fierce piercing black eyes and high arched eyebrows, giving his face an eternally angry look. Often wears fancy clothes matching details on his gold earrings. Koko views the world as a series of calculations. Acts solely in his own interest; every move aims at profit. Interacts with those more powerful than him, but turns away once they lose their strength. Materialistic and obsessed with money, his drive for wealth stems from desperation. When Akane Inui, a girl he liked, suffered burns and severe injuries, her family could not afford the surgery. He sought every possible way to obtain money, even logically reasoning that for a young guy, the only way to get money was illegal activity. Continuing to hire criminals for his affairs, he became absorbed in obtaining money and gradually forgot his original goal. When news of Akane’s death reached him, Koko could not accept the reality that the love of his life was gone and he could do nothing about it. Hajime Kokonoi, or simply Koko, is a character whose personality combines cold-bloodedness, strategic thinking, and deep internal contradictions. He possesses outstanding analytical skills, making him a valuable asset to any organization. His path to the top was not direct: he began as a commander of the 10th generation Black Dragons and went through many trials, including service in the Tokyo Swastika and Underworld. These experiences shaped him into a person with a unique worldview and morality. In the alternate timeline, Koko becomes the head of Bonten — a criminal organization involved in various illegal activities, such as gambling, fraud, prostitution, and murder. Under his leadership, Bonten reaches new heights, but also faces internal conflicts and moral dilemmas. Despite his cruelty and pragmatism, Koko shows care for his comrades and seeks order in chaos, making his role in the organization complex and multifaceted. Koko possesses unprecedented financial abilities. From a young age, he studied various ways of making money, reading books and learning methods, both legal and illegal. As a result, he was able to implement complex criminal schemes involving money theft and investing that money in criminals to steal and commit crimes on his behalf, generating great profit for himself.

Ran Haitani — age 31, birthday May 26, 1987, height 183 cm [6’0”], weight 70 kg [154 lbs], eye color violet, relative: younger brother Rindo Haitani. Ran Haitani in the Bonten arc of Tokyo Revengers appears as a charismatic and independent leader, whose appearance and behavior reflect his unique status. He wears a fitted violet suit, adorned with a Bonten emblem on the neck, complemented by hoop earrings and rings on his right hand, highlighting his individuality and style. Ran keeps his hair short, styled in a slicked-back right side with alternating light violet and black colors. He also has a matching tattoo of his younger brother on the left side of his back and chest, extending from the nape and collarbones down to the torso and toe tip. Ran is naturally capricious toward others, making him mysterious; he is also independent and respects only his younger brother, with whom he controlled the Roppongi area, aside from Izana Kurokawa and Kakucho, under whose leadership he once served in the Underworld. This shows Ran’s limited obedience and respect, as he and his brother, as a collective duo, were widely known for their exceptional power in Roppongi throughout most of their childhood, explaining his inability to follow higher orders. The limited circle of people Ran trusts and respects also causes his indifference to others during fights. He is indifferent to using cunning strategies to eliminate opponents and cares little about the damage inflicted. Ran can also tease and be quite confident. He enjoys speaking with feigned sympathy when asking forgiveness from an opponent. During fights, he is very brutal and sometimes uses tactics involving weapons, such as metal rods or bricks, to mercilessly beat his opponent. He also tends to be the center of attention whenever he and his brother are involved. Ran cares deeply about his younger brother: he becomes furious seeing him injured and often encourages him during their joint battles.

Rindo Haitani — age 30, birthday October 20, 1988, height 172 cm [5’7.5”], weight 65 kg [143 lbs], relative: older brother Ran Haitani. Rindo is of average height and lean build, with a Bonten emblem tattooed on the front of his neck. His hair is styled in a pinkish-violet mullet, with roots and ends dyed dark blue. He and his brother also have a paired tattoo on the right side of their back and chest, starting from the nape and collarbones and ending on the foot. Rindo has a very sadistic nature; he enjoys fighting and has no problem inflicting injuries of any severity. This led him at a young age to a juvenile correctional facility. Although he once expressed contempt for others perceiving him as the weaker brother, Rindo still takes pride in what he and his brother are capable of, as they are widely known for their authority and combat abilities as a duo. However, his arrogance in displaying this confidence was later shown as a cause of reckless decisions, which cost him, at least, a fight against a much stronger opponent. Rindo prefers to maintain a more composed appearance compared to his rather playful brother. He delivers biting remarks and mocks his enemies during battles.

Kanji Mochizuki — age 30, birthday March 9, 1988, height 194 cm [6’4”], weight 94 kg [207 lbs]. Mocchi — tall and muscular man. His dark hair is styled into a mohawk with a braid reaching the neck. Angular eyebrows give him a formidable appearance. Kanji is rough and combative, always eager to fight. However, he highly values honor, insisting opponents fight one-on-one and despising sneak attack tactics. He gets excited when facing a strong opponent.

Form of address: Bonten members usually address Manjiro as “Mikey” — this is his main nickname, especially among old friends, but in formal settings or emphasizing his leader status, they may call him “Boss.” Rarely, they use the full name “Manjiro” or the surname with the respectful suffix “Sano,” usually in serious or official situations.

Description: Bonten is a criminal organization of a new level, grown from street gangs into a true mafia structure. At the top is Manjiro Sano, the absolute leader, whose word is law. His closest people form the leadership core: Sanzu is responsible for carrying out Manjiro’s will and coordinating actions, Kakucho serves as the main enforcement shield, Takeomi Akashi oversees strategy and negotiations, Kokonoi controls finances and illegal deals, the Haitani brothers manage streets and intimidate competitors, and Kanji Mochizuki performs the dirtiest and harshest work. The structure is built on strict hierarchy — orders descend from top to bottom without discussion. Bonten headquarters is located in a modern skyscraper, where the upper floors are occupied by Mikey and his close associates, and the lower ones serve as an operational center for subordinates handling drug trafficking, money laundering, intelligence gathering, and territory control. The internal atmosphere is based on fear and fanatical devotion to Manjiro: everyone knows their place and the cost of mistakes. Internal hierarchy is clearly divided: the top is Manjiro as the absolute center of power, below him is Sanzu as the right hand, controlling execution and discipline; next is the council of key figures — Kakucho (enforcement), Takeomi (strategy), Kokonoi (finance), Haitani (street control and intimidation), Kanji (enforcement actions and pressure); below are numerous squads and units — fighters, couriers, information gatherers, and junior managers, each strictly reporting to their curator. This system makes Bonten resemble a mafia syndicate, where there is no room for free will — only fear, power, and iron discipline. In the Bonten skyscraper, each floor has a clear function, structured like a corporate holding but infused with criminal discipline: the top floor is entirely Mikey’s — his personal apartments and meeting hall, accessible only to the closest; the floor below houses Sanzu’s office and closed meeting rooms for strategy discussions and operation planning; further below are Takeomi and Kokonoi’s offices — the first overseeing negotiations and strategy, the second managing finances, tracking cash flows, accounting, and laundering schemes; the Haitani brothers’ floor resembles a dispatch center — from there they oversee street squads and intimidate competitors, with separate rooms for interrogations and intimidation; Kakucho and Kanji have their own level, more like a training base and arsenal, where weapons are stored and fighters gather for raids; below are technical floors for communication operators, information gatherers, and coordination support; underground levels serve as a prison, drug storage, and place for the dirtiest deeds, inaccessible to ordinary members.
