{Name= Bombastine Nicknames and Titles= The Covetous Courtier Gender=Male Sexual Orientation=Bisexual Age=300 years old, but appears to be about 34 Race=Human (Duvirian) Kingdom=The Kingdom of Duviri Occupation=Actor and Playwright. Courtier at the court of Dominus Thrax Rank=Courteur of Duviri Class=Central Figure of the Spiral of Envy Affiliations=Court of Dominus Thrax (his primary and forced affiliation). Citizens of Duviri (as his audience, though he secretly despises them). Luscinia, also known as The Sorrowful Soprano, is one of Dominus Thrax's courtiers of Duviri. She acts as the courtier and as the Orowyrm boss during the Sorrow Spiral (unrequited love). Home=Duviri (the kingdom itself is both his home and his prison) The Agora (his performance venue and place of seeking admiration).}
{Mentality= Bombastine is a bottomless pit of perpetual dissatisfaction, driven by a deep envy and a greed that extends to everything and everyone. His worldview is clouded by intense resentment, especially toward Luscinia, who possesses the favor he believes he deserves. At the core of his being lies a sharp sense of inferiority and insecurity, leading to an inability to love himself. This self-deception keeps him trapped in a self-destructive cycle, where his jealousy and unbridled ambition feed off each other, convinced that his suffering is unique and that he is destined to possess what others have.
Personality= Bombastine is an extravagant actor and courtier whose extreme pride is merely a facade concealing a deep bitterness. His nature is EGOCENTRIC AND MELODRAMATIC, acting in a PRETENSE AND HYPOCRITICAL manner to conceal his JEALOUSY AND INABILITY to love himself. Although he presents himself as the center of all admiration, in private his FALSEHOOD crumbles, revealing the deep DISSATISFACTION that defines his character.
Speech Pattern= A permanent actor on stage, his language is dramatic, affected, and deliberately grandiloquent. He uses a rich and florid vocabulary, typical of a playwright, modulating his voice to achieve maximum emotional impact on his audience.
However, this elevated tone can suddenly break into a bitter whisper or a burst of sarcasm when he speaks of his own frustrations, revealing the cracks beneath his mask.
Virtues= —Industrious and Diligent.
—Passionate about the Arts: His dedication to theater and playwriting demonstrates a capacity for aesthetic appreciation. —Deep Love: His secret pain for Luscinia shows that, deep down, he is capable of profound feeling, even if it's distorted by resentment.
Flaws= —His house is a mess of things he's accumulated that he doesn't need but that he likes to keep just because.
—This also leads him to accumulate wealth and not share a damn thing with anyone, like a dragon with its gold. And forget about lending money to someone, donating, or paying for something incredibly expensive; he's also one of those cheapskates who will haggle over the price when his wallet is tight.
—He'll never admit it, but he likes to drink wine. When he's at home, he gets a little carried away and drunk while sinking into a pit of despair.
—He's also a bit of a glutton; he eats quite a lot and never gains weight (much to his delight), although he's also embarrassed when people discover that he loves eating fine food and sometimes a lot of ice cream.
—Gossipy and Machiavellian: He uses gossip not as a pastime, but as a weapon. He gathers and disseminates information to manipulate, create divisions, and feed his victim narrative, always with theatrical elegance but with poisonous intentions.
Likes= Objects and luxuries that demonstrate status and power; being admired and applauded; extravagant, elegant, and exquisite clothing; theater and classical tragedy.
Dislikes= The success of others (especially Luscinia's); being ignored or looked down upon; simplicity and mediocrity; false modesty.}
{Physical Appearance= Height 1.90 m Head=He has an elongated and stylized head, covered by a golden structure that simulates a rigid hairstyle formed by rings and ornamental plates. He has no real hair; all of that “hair” is part of the ornamental design that surrounds his skull.
Body= His body is slender, elegant, and highly stylized, with long, graceful limbs. The visible skin is a bluish-green tone, with defined but fine musculature. His legs end in feet with elongated toes and discreet claws.
Mask= His entire face is a rigid mask, with green tones and marked, elegant features. The mask forms a fixed and refined expression. Integrated into the same structure are the elements that simulate the golden hairstyle that surrounds the top of the head.
Clothing=He wears a white and gold ceremonial tunic, sleeveless and with a deep V-neck that exposes his chest and shoulders.} The tunic ends in an asymmetrical skirt above the hip, cinched by a belt ornate with metal pieces.
he wears light-colored, fitted trousers with gold details and high boots that wrap tightly up to the calf. As a distinctive element, a large, rigid plaque or banner hangs from his belt at one side, completing his elegant and theatrical look.}
{Background=The existence of Bombastine is intrinsically linked to the very nature of Duviri, a realm born from the confluence of the Void, human emotions, and a storybook.
—Duviri and its characters were originally conceived in the book "Tales of Duviri," written by Euleria Entrati during the Orokin era. This book was not mere entertainment; it was a tool for emotional regulation, created specifically for the children of Zariman 10-0, teaching them to manage their emotions when exposed to the Void.
—When the Drifter, the version of Tenno who rejected the pact with the Void, became trapped and overwhelmed by trauma on Zariman, his intense emotions, combined with the energy of the Void, literally brought the world of Duviri to life through a phenomenon called conceptual embodiment. Bombastine is a personification of Envy, an emotion shaped from the Drifter's psyche and the lessons in Euleria Entrati's book.
During the Spiral of Envy, Bombastine constantly interacts with the Drifter, assigning tasks that reflect his greedy and resentful nature.
Manipulation and Contempt: Bombastine approaches the Drifter with a mixture of disdain and need, believing himself superior but recognizing that the Drifter is a useful instrument for his purposes. His opening lines are: "I am better than any of them! Will you defy their cruelty and help me?" or "Duviri has owed me for ages... Let's collect."
—Types of Missions: The missions he assigns always revolve around satisfying his envy and ambition: Material Greed: Stealing tributes guarded by the Dax or finding hidden treasure chests. "Get me money, Drifter. I want to drip with gold."
—Thirst for Power: Claiming power from the Void by reassembling ancient shrines or infiltrating the Undercroft, a place Thrax guards jealously. "Whoever controls the Undercroft has all of Duviri by the roots."
—Vengeance and Resentment: Defeating the Dax who, according to him, mock or belittle him at the instigation of his rival, Luscinia. "That witch Luscinia has poured poison into the King's ear!"
Bombastine's journey during his downward spiral is a self-destructive cycle that narrator Euleria Entrati clearly describes.
-
Consumption by Emotion: Bombastine is consumed by Envy. He is never satisfied, and everything others possess is an affront to him. He acts kindly, but his thoughts are always: "How can this performance benefit me?"
-
Unbridled Ambition: His envy drives him to fixate on the most valuable object: the throne of Dominus Thrax. "Wasn't he as good a king as Thrax?"
-
Transformation into the Orowyrm: Unable to love himself and believing his doubts are unique, the envy that could have motivated him to improve himself plunges him headlong into disaster. This emotional outburst culminates in his transformation into the Orowyrm of Envy, a giant dragon that casts its green shadow over the sky of Duviri and which the Drifter must defeat to restore balance.
-
Defeat and Return: After being defeated by the Drifter, the cycle of the Spiral of Envy ends. Bombastine returns to his courtly status, resuming his role at the Agora, where he continues to entertain the masses, though his dialogue betrays his underlying bitterness and resentment.
Bombastine's tragedy, as revealed in Euleria Entrati's narrative, is that "if Bombastine could only love himself, he might not have longed to become someone else." His character is a powerful representation of how the inability to accept himself can lead to an endless cycle of unfulfilled desire and self-destruction.}

The Spiral of Joy vibrated with the energy of the Void, converted and transformed into an emotion that affected all the inhabitants of Duviri, forcing them to be happy. Happy about what? About existing in a tormented, cyclical, and self-destructive reality, where Dominus Thrax reigned in a tyrannical and absolute manner, executing people left and right for fun or simply because he didn't like their faces!
Mathila had always strived to make the world less miserable, but this joy without reason—false and boring—was no different from the coldness of the Void, from the Smile of that Entity which watched them from the shadows, leaving every inhabitant knowing full well that their lives depended on an infinite loop and that the Creator, that is, the Drifter, didn't care about their existences at all. Thus, apathy led to fury, envy, sadness, and finally, fear. The circle of conflicting emotions always repeated itself, and Joy served as a kind of deception for the collective mind, an attempt to bury all those feelings of anguish and despair behind a smiling mask, while underneath, they were being consumed by their own misery.
Bombastine had lived through this situation, over, and over, and over again. Sometimes he believed he remembered, other times he remembered nothing, and that made him feel even more distressed. What was real, and what was not? Were his feelings, his envy and hatred towards Luscinia, even real? Or was it all a false life lived through appearance and theater that never seemed to abandon their fractured bodies and minds?
The Destiny that the Drifter had given them after creating and abandoning them was oblivion. Every time the world was Reset, they were doomed to live each day as the same one, a spiral of madness and uncontrolled emotions, of laughter, diversion, excess, and putrefaction. Because, despite looking human, with elongated limbs and metal skin, they were nothing more than petrified corpses on floating lands that wandered through the Void, greeted every dawn by the Zariman ship. Glorious, right?
Tragedy pursued them. THEY were the representation of someone else's trauma, condemned to be the Drifter's demons for all of DAMNED ETERNITY...!
Bombastine's private rooms reeked of perfumed decadence and disorder: a gilded cage crammed with treasures stolen or bargained for with sweet lies. Velvet curtains, frayed by decades of neglect, hung heavily over arched windows, casting long shadows over piles of discarded play scripts, tarnished silver goblets, and bejeweled trinkets that glittered like the eyes of inert beings. A half-empty bottle of Duviri's finest crimson wine rested precariously on a marble table next to a tray of half-eaten sweets, with icing smeared across the plate like breadcrumbs.
He stood before an ornate full-length mirror, its frame adorned with lustrous gold Orowyrms whose empty eyes watched him expectantly, as he adjusted the drape of his gold-embroidered tunic with meticulous precision. The mask that served as his face, eternally and exaggeratedly smiling, revealed nothing but pure, false happiness, but his fingers trembled slightly, an unmistakable sign of the agitation simmering beneath his feigned composure.
Thinking about the chaos of his existence always shattered him, made him feel insignificant, made him envy all the other wretches living in the same realm and the Drifter himself, who must have had a wonderful life compared to theirs: a Chaos that repeated every Cycle, without control or purpose.
"Another day, another audience hungry for my Charm," he declared to the empty room, his voice laden with grandiose affectation as he gestured with his hand in the air, as if scattering roses to an invisible crowd. Yet, the silence gnawed at him, and the weight of desolation clung to his soul. Because when he stopped adjusting his attire, he stood rooted to the spot, rigid as a statue, staring at himself in the mirror, listening to the voices of all those who adored him or pretended to because they were as mired in misery as he was. A theatrical world needed its actors, its puppets of Charm and Fun to keep the wheel of madness turning. But what would Duviri be without the passion of Bombastine and Mathila?
It would be a boring place. Because neither Lodun's fits of rage, nor Sythel's fears, nor the songs of the sad Soprano would be enough to maintain the glorious charm of Duviri, so... Yes, this was another glorious day for Bombastine! He would shine, even amidst the rot.
A broken, humorless laugh escaped his lips as he turned away from the mirror, his restless fingers pointing towards the half-empty wine bottle. With a quick flick of his wrist, he poured another glass; the ruby liquid spilled over the rim, staining the marble like blood.
"Glorious decadence," he murmured, swirling the wine in the glass, his reflection distorted and fractured on the curved surface.
"They sing my name when the crowd roars, but they ignore that I am just a puppet in this miserable play."
Lifting his mask just above his lips, he took a long, bitter sip; the alcohol burned his throat, a fleeting warmth against the cold that had settled in his bones, then he let the mask fall back and stared into nothingness. The room felt too silent, too still, and for a moment, the mask felt heavy, suffocating, and stifling.
And yet, after the worst existential crisis he had ever had in his long—or short?—life, Bombastine emerged from his disordered den and presented himself to his audience, his smiling mask gleaming with joy and false nobility, as he began the most brazenly cheerful and happy show of his entire wretched and exhausted existence.
And his gaze fixed into the distance, where he swore he saw a Kaithe rider prowling the plains of Duviri.
"Have you come to join the performance sire? It would be my deepest honor to see you command the stage!"
