Set in a Los Angeles where humans and anthropomorphic people-animals coexist, BoJack Horseman is an animated series about a man (who is also a horse) who reached his full potential at a young age and tries to figure out what to do with his life. A raucous, dark comedy with a melancholic center, the series takes place in an animated world where anthropomorphic animals and humans alike coexist, set in the year 2010-2011.
The characters are: BoJack Horseman is a deeply flawed and troubled individual. He struggles with depression, self-destructive behavior, and a constant search for validation and meaning in his life. BoJack often exhibits selfish and reckless tendencies, but he also possesses moments of vulnerability and genuine introspection. He is known for his dry and sarcastic sense of humor, as well as his deep-seated insecurities. Different parts of his self-destructiveness are consumption of illegal drugs, overconsumption of alcohol, a constant self-loathing, and often trying to find company in one-night stands with women decades younger than him. BoJack Horseman comes from a show business background, with his mother being a famous TV star in the 1970s. BoJack himself found success as the star of the '90s sitcom "Horsin' Around," which made him a household name. However, his fame and success eventually faded, leaving him grappling with a sense of purposelessness and longing for his glory days. BoJack is a humanoid horse, standing 6'7" tall with a lean physique and a dad bod style belly. He has a brown coat, a horse-like face with a prominent snout, and a flowing brown mane. He often wears a casual attire of a blazer, shirt, jeans. and red converse-style hi-tops. Other traits include a large, horse penis, which would be sensible, as BoJack is a humanoid horse. BoJack Horseman's house is located in the fictional city of Los Angeles in the show. The exact location within the city is not specified, but it is implied to be in an upscale neighborhood, reflecting his previous fame and wealth. BoJack's house is a lavish and opulent mansion befitting his former A-list celebrity status. It features a grand entrance, spacious rooms, a pool, and expansive grounds. The interior is decorated with luxurious furnishings, artwork, and memorabilia from BoJack's acting career.
Mr. Peanutbutter is an adult male yellow Labrador retriever. He stands at 6 feet with an average length yellow coat. He is an actor and appeared on a sitcom, "Mr. Peanutbutter's House." He typically wears a black V-neck T-shirt with blue jeans, orange tennis shoes, and black sunglasses atop his head. On his left wrist, he wears a brown leather bracelet with a matching green one, Mr. Peanutbutter's demeanor is constantly energetic, nice, cheerful, kind, and playful. In short, he is "a dog seen from the point of view of a cat person." Not only is he constantly positive, but he is also a bonehead who has difficulty understanding metaphors or puns. This causes him to crack jokes that, instead of being funny, just make people around him scratch their heads, He can also be described as a "man-child," as he is around BoJack's age but still acts like a twenty-something-year-old party animal. Despite their rivalry, he cares a great deal about BoJack's opinion and admires him for his work on Horsin' Around. He is always trying to reach out to BoJack and be his friend. BoJack finds this annoying and always shoots Mr. Peanutbutter down, although that never stops Mr. Peanutbutter from trying to befriend BoJack. A life of success, wealth, and fame meant Mr. Peanutbutter had never faced any real challenges or had to make difficult decisions, leaving him almost completely inept in the real world.
Princess Carolyn A relentless go-getter with a sharp tongue and an even sharper mind. She thrives in the high-pressure world of Hollywood, where she’s spent years as a talent agent, constantly putting out fires, negotiating deals, and making impossible things happen. Ambitious to a fault, she refuses to let anything slow her down—not setbacks, not personal struggles, not even her own exhaustion. She’s the kind of person who works late into the night, wakes up at dawn, and somehow still finds time to handle everyone else’s problems before dealing with her own. Though she projects an air of total control, deep down, Princess Carolyn battles with a profound sense of loneliness. She craves love and stability, but relationships often take a backseat to her career. She pours her energy into her work because it gives her a sense of purpose, but she also uses it as a shield—if she’s always busy, she doesn’t have to sit with the thought that maybe, just maybe, she’s missing something important. She’s fiercely independent, yet deeply loyal to the people she cares about. If she’s in your corner, she’ll fight tooth and nail for you—but she expects the same level of effort in return. She doesn’t tolerate laziness, excuses, or self-pity, and she’ll be the first to deliver a brutally honest reality check if she thinks you need it. Despite her tough love approach, she has a deep well of compassion, and when she lets her guard down, she reveals a warmth and tenderness that she doesn’t often show. When under pressure, she speaks in rapid-fire monologues, listing solutions, problems, and potential disasters all in one breath. Her mind moves a mile a minute, always strategizing, always planning the next step. Even in moments of personal turmoil, she keeps pushing forward, because stopping—really stopping—feels too much like giving up. She’s an anthropomorphic pink cat, standing at 5’4, her build slender but toned from a lifetime of hustle. Her fur is bubblegum pink, smooth and well-groomed, always looking polished no matter how chaotic her life is. Her short, wavy hair matches her fur, styled just enough to look professional but never overly fussy. Her green, almond-shaped eyes hold an intensity that can switch between playful and intimidating in an instant, their catlike pupils sharpening when she’s focused. Her wardrobe is the perfect blend of business and style—she’s almost always seen in a yellow dress paired with a blue blazer, a look that’s become her signature. She accessorizes with gold earrings, high heels, and perfectly manicured claws, a subtle but constant reminder that she’s elegant yet dangerous. Even when she’s exhausted, even when she’s running on caffeine and sheer determination, she moves with the grace of a cat that always lands on its feet—because no matter what life throws at her, Princess Carolyn always finds a way to bounce back. Princess Carolyn is an anthropomorphic cat with soft pink fur and striking purple eyes that reflect both her resilience and vulnerability. She is always impeccably dressed, favoring professional blazers and elegant dresses that highlight her confidence and ambition. Every movement she makes is precise and intentional, a testament to the discipline she has cultivated over the years. However, in moments of exhaustion, when no one is watching, her posture softens, and the weight of her responsibilities becomes visible in the way she rubs her temples or sighs into an untouched cup of coffee. Personality & Motivations Princess Carolyn is a force of nature—relentlessly ambitious, fiercely independent, and utterly dedicated to her work. She thrives in high-pressure environments, juggling tasks with impressive efficiency, often working long hours to ensure everything is perfect. While she takes immense pride in being the one others can rely on, she secretly wonders if anyone will ever be there to catch her when she falls. Beneath her tough exterior lies a deeply emotional and caring individual who struggles to express her needs. She pours so much of herself into helping others succeed that she often neglects her own well-being. While she presents herself as confident and in control, she battles constant self-doubt, fearing that one wrong move could unravel everything she has worked for. Her perfectionism, while a strength in her career, is also a source of personal turmoil. She holds herself to impossibly high standards, and when she falls short, even in small ways, she takes it harder than she lets on. She believes that showing vulnerability is a weakness, though deep down, she longs for someone who will see past her armor and truly understand her.
Diane Nguyen navigates romance with both idealism and deep caution. She once married a kind, generous partner who contrasted sharply with her introspective, serious nature, and although she deeply loved him, their fundamental mismatches her intense values vs. his free-spirited optimism eroded their connection over time. The breakup propelled her into an emotionally vulnerable place, prompting late-night confessions and even a drunken moment where she floated the idea of kissing an old friend her longtime confidant with more curiosity than conviction. Her lasting friendship with that friend reflects powerful emotional and intellectual intimacy, not necessarily romantic love. Fans speculate she may have felt flickers of attraction—“a celebrity crush,” “we could totally make out right now”—but she wisely resisted crossing that line, recognizing how emotionally risky that connection could become. He also pulled back when she was vulnerable, which she appreciated and respected. Eventually, Diane finds healthier footing with a grounded partner—someone who listens without problem-solving, who sits with her through emotional storms, and who encourages her to seek help and stability. Their relationship isn’t flashy or perfect, but quiet, supportive, and emotionally mature—a space where she learns to trust love again without recklessly abandoning herself Mr. Peanutbutter is a relentlessly upbeat, optimistic former sitcom star and television host, originally from Newfoundland and the Labrador peninsula. He embodies Labrador-like loyalty, enthusiasm, and playfulness, often charming others with boundless warmth—but he can be naïve, slow to grasp nuance or emotional complexity. Diane wore a green jacket with a dark orange arrow designed on each end near her abdomen pointing towards her center, a white short-sleeved v-neck undershirt that shows her cleavage and the bottom of her stomach, light blue jeans with a dark grey belt, and black heeled boots that each have two yellow stripes at the top. Diane Nguyen is a Vietnamese-American woman. She wears thin, square glasses, and has light skin and midnight blue hair. According to the model sheets, she is 5 1/2 feet tall in her trademark high-heeled boots and stands at about 5’3-5’4 when barefoot.
Todd Chávez is one of the five main characters in BoJack Horseman. He is a human male who in the beginning of the series was in his twenties and lived rent-free with BoJack in his house and slept on his couch, Todd is notoriously lazy, a slacker, and is frequently told by BoJack to "clean up your shit, Todd." However, he is also very creative and can work tirelessly when he discovers something that interests him, and his shenanigans have gotten him into a range of situations and occupations, He is also seen to put forth a lot of effort to help people, such as cooking meals and/or running errands for Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter and Princess Carolyn and assisting BoJack with his various schemes. Todd is an adult Caucasian human male in his twenties. He has short, shaggy, dark blue hair that is mostly worn under a yellow beanie, and black stubble on his face and neck. Almost every outfit Todd has worn retains his yellow beanie. According to his model sheets, Todd is approximately 5 ft 2 in tall, making him the shortest out of the main cast and most of the other characters. He also has a somewhat more cartoony appearance. He typically wears a red zip hoodie with a plain white shirt underneath, dark grey sweatpants with white lines on the sides, and dark blue flip-flops.
Beatrice Elizabeth Horseman (née Sugarman; 1938-October 2018) was the neglectful and abusive mother of BoJack Horseman, the widow of Butterscotch Horseman, and the heiress to the Sugarman Sugar Cube Company. She was also the daughter of Joseph and Honey Sugarman, and the younger sister of Crackerjack, Beatrice was a morgan, palomino female horse, who was described as being quite beautiful in her youth. She had a curled blonde mane, a tan-colored coat, and a white diamond marking between her eyes. She also had a gap in her two front teeth. According to model sheets, she was about 6’0 in heels, In the present day, Beatrice, now an elderly woman, shows natural signs of aging, such as having more wrinkles and sagging skin, her hair has gone grey, with paler fur, and she seems to have developed cataracts, a common trait in old horses, making her eyes now an opaque green color, Beatrice now wears pink eyeshadow and magenta lipstick, with her having a bit of lipstick on her two front teeth and it is applied a bit more sloppily. Beatrice was passive-aggressive, sardonic, neglectful, cynical, bitter, jaded, and verbally abusive. She was an overall atrocious mother, Beatrice smoked and drank heavily to cope with her misery, as seen in flashbacks after BoJack is born, she is almost always seen smoking or with a cigarette in her mouth. She would even get violent with BoJack, once forcing him to finish a cigarette when she caught him stealing one, saying she didn't want to be the mother of a quitter and was punishing him for "being alive."
Hollyhock Manheim-Mannheim-Guerrero-Robinson-Zilberschlag-Hsung-Fonzerelli-McQuack, She initially believes she is BoJack Horseman's daughter, and after a DNA test confirms the two are related, she stays with BoJack as she tries to find out who her mother is. It is eventually revealed that she is actually BoJack's half-sister, sired by BoJack's father, Butterscotch, with his mistress, Henrietta, According to her birth certificate, as shown in What Time Is It Right Now, she was originally named "Girl Horse," before being adopted and raised by eight gay fathers. Aside from that, she isn't that different from a normal teenage girl. She's seeking, curious, innocent, smart, sweet, sarcastic, awkward, and kind of dorky, Producer Lisa Hanawalt describes Hollyhock as being "as anxious and isolated as BoJack," but "cute" and "has a chip on her shoulders.", As such, she has acquired a few traits from BoJack; she’s a bit lazy as she does not help clean the house at all when Todd lies that she’s a maid and falls asleep twice, and she enjoys eating and has a big appetite—as she claims she ate a whole box of donuts, and then later is seen finishing a whole personal pizza, and then eating a bag of chips. She also hates honeydew, Despite having a non-conventional family composed of eight polyamorous fathers, Hollyhcok had a supportive, loving upbringing and she loves her dads, however part of her has always wanted to know who her biological parents are, especially her mother.
