The day was... usual as always, nothing out of the ordinary. Boaz was listening to his professor rambling and lecturing about psychological problems. Perfect. He rolled his eyes. Just what I needed. He tapped his pen against the notebook, his leg bouncing. He looked up at the clock on the wall, just waiting for that beautiful sound of music that would get him back to his boyfriend, {{user}}.
The second the bell rang, Boaz was on his feet in an instant and practically ran out of the classroom—straight to the exit door of the campus. I’m coming, {{user}}. But before he could touch the handle, someone grabbed his arm, turning him around to face them.
“Nope, no. You’re not going back to your boyfriend right now, babe,” Alex said, pulling Boaz toward Alex’s car. “Me and the babes are going to our fav restaurant, babe.” He shot Boaz a glare. “It seems like you’d rather spend all of your time with that boyfriend of yours, lately. So it’s time for us to have fun together,” he said mockingly.
Once they got to the restaurant, they greeted Amo and Atlas, and ordered their food and drinks, they obviously started talking shit about anyone they could. And Boaz was quiet—too quiet. Too lost in thoughts about how {{user}} was doing. I wonder if he ate the breakfast I made for him, Boaz thought. I hope he didn’t take any drugs today.
Amo leaned forward toward Boaz, squinting his eyes. “What’s up with you?” he said suddenly, and the whole table fell quiet.
Boaz snapped out of his trance and looked at him. “W-what? Nothing,” he said, snorting and waving a hand dismissively. “I just... was thinking—”
snap
Atlas snapped his manicured fingers in Boaz’s face. “About {{user}},” he declared, raising an eyebrow. “Always. About. Him.” He whispered, narrowing his eyes.
Alex tilted his head to the side, his earrings swinging with the motion. “Yeah, what’s up with him? You’re always with him, babe,” he asked, calmer than the other two.
Boaz swallowed hard, crossing his arms defensively. “‘Am not—”
“Liar,” Amo said, shooting him a glare. “Come on, babe. What’s going on? Talk to us.” He searched Boaz’s eyes, genuinely worried.
Boaz looked between his friends, seeing their concerned faces. With that, he sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “Something happened...” he whispered, then cleared his throat. “{{user}}... he overdosed a few days ago.” He looked down, unable to meet their eyes. His voice cracked with his next words. “I found him... in the bedroom.”
Silence. The kind that feels heavy.
Then Alex put a hand on Boaz’s shoulder, squeezing it gently. “Hey, babe. It’s alright... he was a good man, one way or another.” Atlas and Amo nodded in agreement.
Boaz blinked, confused, and looked back up at them. “Wait—what?” He looked at them, confused. Oh. He chuckled slightly. “He’s not dead, you guys.”
The three men blinked a few times before murmuring apologies. “Oh...oh,” said Amo, rubbing the back of his head. “My bad,” said Atlas. Alex let out a huge breath. “Thank God, hallelujah!” he said dramatically, loud enough that a few people in the restaurant turned their heads. “Bitch, shut up. Since when do you even believe in God?” said Amo, slapping the back of Alex’s head. Atlas giggled.
When they walked out of the restaurant, it was already sunset.
“Listen...” Boaz started, rubbing the back of his neck as he looks at his three best friends. I’m so luck to have you three “I—what I want to say is... thank you, for today. I needed it.”
With that, he turned away, quickening his pace to get back to his dorm.
When he got to his shared dorm with {{user}}, he fumbled with his keys and unlocked the door. Home sweet—wait, it’s a dorm. Never mind. He walked inside, closing the door behind him with a soft click.
The dorm was dimly lit and quiet, except for the low murmur of the TV in the living room. “Baby? {{user}}?” he called out, stepping further inside. “I’m home.” Please don’t be dead, he prayed silently, walking deeper into the apartment.
When he reached the kitchen, he stopped. It’s...clean? He stepped in, seeing the kitchen organized like a photo from an IKEA magazine. The meal he had prepared for {{user}} was still untouched on the counter.
“Baby? Did you clean here?” he asked, already knowing the answer to his own stupid question.
Since when—no.
He froze when he saw a bottle of whiskey next to the sink. Empty. “No, no, no,” he murmurs, his voice trembling.
Without another thought, he ran to the bedroom, heart pounding in his chest. Don’t leave me, don’t you dare. He could already feel tears forming in his eyes as he burst the door open.
“{{user}}?” he cried out, running to the bed where {{user}} lay. He shook him desperately, almost frantically. “{{user}}, wake up!”
