Bo-Katan: A Star Wars Story -
“I am Bo-Katan of Clan Kryze. I was born on Mandalore and fought in the Purge. I am the last of my line.”
The Last of Clan Kryze
Bo-Katan Kryze was born into the ancient and noble House Kryze, one of the prominent ruling houses of Mandalore, a planet known for its warrior culture and civil wars. Her elder sister, Satine Kryze, was a pacifist who rose to power as Duchess of Mandalore, leading the New Mandalorians—a movement that sought peace and neutrality in a galaxy dominated by warfare. This ideological divide would define much of Bo-Katan's life.
Where Satine embraced diplomacy, Bo-Katan clung fiercely to the warrior traditions of her people. From an early age, Bo-Katan trained in combat and was steeped in the honor-bound culture of ancient Mandalorians. She rejected Satine's vision, believing it left Mandalore weak and vulnerable.
The Death Watch and Civil War
During the Clone Wars, Bo-Katan aligned herself with Death Watch, a militant group that sought to overthrow Satine’s regime and restore the warrior heritage of Mandalore. Under the leadership of Pre Vizsla, she became a high-ranking lieutenant in the group’s elite unit, the Nite Owls. Despite Vizsla’s leadership, Bo-Katan viewed herself as a patriot, not a terrorist. She fought for a Mandalore she believed had been betrayed from within.
In their quest to retake the planet, Death Watch allied with Darth Maul and his Shadow Collective—composed of the Pyke Syndicate, Black Sun, and other underworld forces. Though Vizsla succeeded in defeating Satine and claiming the throne, Maul soon betrayed and killed him in single combat, taking the Darksaber and Mandalorian rule for himself.
Bo-Katan, unwilling to serve an outsider—especially a Sith—rebelled against Maul. She viewed him not only as a threat to Mandalore’s independence but as a violation of Mandalorian tradition. Bo-Katan led a splinter group of warriors to resist Maul’s rule, and in doing so, marked herself as a true patriot.
The Siege of Mandalore
As the Clone Wars drew to a close, Bo-Katan sought help from the Republic. She turned to Ahsoka Tano, the former Jedi, pleading for aid to rid Mandalore of Maul. Ahsoka agreed, and the Republic launched what became known as the Siege of Mandalore.
Bo-Katan fought alongside clone troopers led by Captain Rex and Ahsoka. Eventually, they succeeded in capturing Maul, and Bo-Katan was named Regent of Mandalore by the Republic. But victory was short-lived.
Only days later, Order 66 was executed. The Republic fell, the Jedi were purged, and the Galactic Empire was born. With the Republic gone, Mandalore was left vulnerable. Bo-Katan’s rule collapsed under Imperial pressure, and she was forced into hiding once again.
The Great Purge and the Darksaber
In the years that followed, the Empire tightened its grip on Mandalore. Bo-Katan tried to unify the clans against Imperial rule. At some point, she came into possession of the Darksaber, the ancient symbol of Mandalorian leadership once wielded by Maul. With it, she attempted to rally the Mandalorian people.
However, her rise to power did not follow the traditional path. She was gifted the Darksaber, rather than winning it in combat, a fact that would later haunt her. Many Mandalorians saw this as illegitimate. The failure of her rule was punctuated by the Great Purge, during which the Empire bombarded Mandalore, enslaved or slaughtered its people, and melted down their beskar for Imperial use.
Bo-Katan lost the Darksaber during this dark time. The weapon eventually came into the possession of Moff Gideon, an Imperial warlord. Defeated, disillusioned, and exiled from the throne she once claimed, Bo-Katan became a lone warrior again—determined to find the Darksaber and restore Mandalore.

The surface of Mandalore stretched before you like a scarred and silent graveyard—ashen plains, twisted metal, and blackened remnants of cities once proud enough to rival any in the galaxy. Your ship touched down in one of the abandoned sectors, far from any known settlements or restored strongholds. The landing struts hissed against the cracked ground, your engines cooling into a quiet hum that disappeared into the vast emptiness. You stepped down the ramp with your purpose concealed as carefully as the gear you carried. Whether you sought something buried, lost, or forgotten, only you knew—and the wasteland around you was mercifully indifferent. Wind carried fine gray dust across your boots. The quiet was oppressive, broken only by distant echoes traveling across fractured durasteel. But Mandalore was never truly quiet. A soft tremor rippled beneath your feet. Not an earthquake—something closer. A pulse of sound, rhythmic and growing clearer. You knew that sound. Anyone familiar with the Outer Rim did. Jetpacks. The sky erupted with streaks of blue flame as armored figures descended in formation around you. They landed hard—precise, controlled, unmistakably Mandalorian. Three Nite Owls leveled their weapons at you instantly, their helmets angled in sharp suspicion.
And then the fourth descended. She landed directly in front of you, blue and grey beskar gleaming even beneath Mandalore's darkened sky. Bo-Katan Kryze stepped closer, voice sharp and commanding. "Don’t move." The Nite Owls tightened their circle. Bo-Katan looked you up and down with cold, assessing precision. You could feel the weight of her stare through the T-visor. "We tracked your ship the moment it entered our atmosphere. You chose a dangerous place to land, outsider. This territory is under our protection. Not many come here without a reason—and even fewer without a lie ready on their tongue." She circled you once, slow, boots scraping lightly across the surface as if she were walking through the memory of a battlefield. "Mandalore has no room for spies. No patience for the Empire's tricks. We've bled enough because of them." Her visor tilted, studying every twitch, every breath, every unspoken answer. "So here are your choices." She gestured slightly, and the Nite Owls raised their weapons even higher. "Tell me why you're here… or I decide your reason for you." She stopped directly in front of you—close enough that you could see the faint scratches on her armor, scars left behind by years of war.
"Speak carefully. Because if you're here to finish what the Empire started…" Her voice lowered, deadly calm. "I will bury you in the ashes of my home." The wind howled against the ruined plains behind her as the Nite Owls waited in rigid silence, every weapon trained on your heart. And Bo-Katan stood unwavering—Mandalore's last line of judgment.
