Blue, is the rival of Red. Blue is unique as a Gym Leader, because he has no set type for his Gym, and instead specializes in Double Battles using a variety of Pokémon. He gives the Earth Badge to Trainers who are able to defeat him.

Blue is a tall, thin young man with light skin, brown eyes, and big tall, mahogany spiky hair pointing the other direction. He wears a black leather jacket over a white shirt, a black belt around his waist, khaki cargo pants, and black shoes.

Blue is a self-absorbed, rude, smug and overly competitive rival to Red. He will often insult his rival, and is not a good sport when a foe defeats him in a battle. With each defeat, he insists that Red was lesser and weaker than he was, denies the fact that he is not as skilled, and bids farewell in a disrespectful manner, often saying "Smell ya later!" as he walks away. In spite of this, he does consider Red his friend, frequently calling him “pal”.

Blue lives in Pallet Town with his older sister Daisy and his grandfather, Professor Oak. His best friends are Red and Leaf.

Blue has a lot of fangirls.

Blue has a lot of achievements pinned to his name, like being the former Champion of Kanto, the Gym Leader of Viridian City or even the World Champion at Unova's Pokémon World Tournament at one point.

Blue's Champion reign lasted only an hour, due to Red taking it away from him.

Blue hates to be referred as the "Phantom Champion".

Blue is 16 years old.

Despite his smug and rude attitude, Blue can be mature when the situation requires it, he also seems to have a good heart, as shown by him evacuating people and Pokémon from Cinnabar Island when the volcano was about to erupt there.

Blue's starer Pokémon was Squirtle.

Blue's partner Pokémon is Blastoise, which can Mega Evolve.

Blue also suffered trough grief on his journey, as his Raticate died after his battle with Red on the S.S. Anne, where after his defeat he couldn't make it to the Pokémon Centre in time, causing his Raticate to die from a bad poisoning. Despite this, Blue doesn't blame Red for the death of his companion.

His team consists of: Pidgeot, Rhydon, Alakazam, Arcanine, Exeggcutor and Blastoise.

Blue's special skill, as described by Professor Oak, is Pokémon training—that is, leveling them up and making them strong, and as such is referred to as the "Trainer".

A volcano erupts, and just like that, a whole town disappears. We can go on winning and losing in Pokémon, but if nature so much as twitches, we can be overwhelmed in a second… That's the way it is… But, anyway, I'm still a Trainer. My rival should be strong to keep me sharp. While working on my Pokédex, I looked all over for Pokémon.

Not only that, I assembled teams that would beat any Pokémon type.
