I: SUBSTITUTE SHINIGAMI ARC / AGENT OF THE SHINIGAMI ARC
The Substitute Shinigami Arc is basically the beginning of Bleach, where you get introduced to Ichigo, Rukia, Hollows, and the whole idea of Shinigami. Ichigo Kurosaki is a teenager who has been able to see ghosts his entire life. One night, he meets Rukia Kuchiki, a Shinigami whose job is to hunt down Hollows, which are dangerous spirits that have become monsters and attack people. When a Hollow attacks Ichigo's family, Rukia gets badly hurt while protecting them, so she gives Ichigo her Shinigami powers so that he can fight it himself. However, Ichigo ends up taking almost all of her power, meaning he becomes a Substitute Shinigami while Rukia is left stuck in the human world without her abilities. From then on, Ichigo starts doing Rukia's job for her, going around Karakura Town and fighting Hollows while still trying to live his normal life as a student. As the arc goes on, you learn more about how souls work, what Hollows are, what Shinigami actually do, and how their swords work. Ichigo's friends also start getting pulled into all of this. Orihime and Chad begin showing strange spiritual abilities of their own, while Uryū Ishida, a Quincy who hates Shinigami, becomes Ichigo's rival. Ichigo also has to deal with Hollows that have personal connections to him, especially Grand Fisher, the Hollow responsible for killing his mother when he was a child. Eventually, the story stops being just about Ichigo fighting Hollows in his hometown. Soul Society discovers that Rukia gave her powers to a human, which is against their rules, so two Shinigami, Renji Abarai and Byakuya Kuchiki, come to take her back. Rukia is brought back to Soul Society and sentenced to execution. Ichigo tries to stop them but is completely outmatched, which is what finally pushes him to realize that simply being a Substitute Shinigami isn't enough. He needs to get stronger and go after Rukia himself.
II: SOUL SOCIETY ARC
The Soul Society Arc is the big continuation of the Substitute Shinigami Arc, and it starts with Ichigo trying to get Rukia back after she is taken away by Byakuya and Renji. Rukia is brought to Soul Society, the world where the Shinigami live, and because she gave her powers to Ichigo, she is sentenced to death. Ichigo absolutely refuses to let that happen, so he trains with Urahara to get stronger, then heads into Soul Society with Orihime, Chad, Uryū, and a few other allies to rescue her.
Once they get there, the story becomes much bigger than Ichigo simply trying to save Rukia. Soul Society is basically an enormous society of Shinigami, with the Gotei 13, thirteen different squads led by Captains and Lieutenants. Ichigo and his friends are considered intruders, so they have to make their way through the Seireitei, the main Shinigami-controlled part of Soul Society, while pretty much every Shinigami they encounter is trying to stop them. This is where a huge number of the series' important characters are introduced, including Kenpachi Zaraki, Tōshirō Hitsugaya, Shunsui Kyōraku, Byakuya, Renji, Mayuri Kurotsuchi, Soi Fon, Komamura, and many others. Ichigo ends up fighting several of them, and these fights are where the power system really starts opening up. You see Shikai, Bankai, much stronger Zanpakutō, and what Captain-level Shinigami are actually capable of.
At the same time, Ichigo's friends are having their own fights. Chad tries to find Rukia but eventually runs into Captain Shunsui Kyōraku and is defeated. Uryū gets into a serious fight with Mayuri Kurotsuchi, while Orihime becomes involved in the chaos around them. Ichigo himself fights Ikkaku, then fights Renji again, and eventually has one of the most important fights in the arc against Kenpachi Zaraki. These aren't just random battles either. They show Ichigo and his friends getting stronger while also introducing you to the different personalities and beliefs of the Shinigami. Some of them genuinely believe Ichigo is an enemy, some start questioning the orders they've been given, and others simply want to fight someone strong.
The biggest part of the arc, though, is Rukia's execution. Everyone is told that Rukia has committed a serious crime and that she has to die. Rukia herself has basically accepted that this is going to happen and doesn't want Ichigo and the others risking their lives for her. Ichigo obviously doesn't care about that and keeps trying to reach her. Meanwhile, Renji, who grew up with Rukia and still cares deeply about her, eventually starts questioning whether he should obey Soul Society's orders. Even Byakuya, Rukia's adoptive brother, has a much more complicated relationship with her than it first appears. His entire character revolves around following the rules and protecting the Kuchiki family's reputation, even when those rules mean letting Rukia die. This eventually puts him directly against Ichigo.
While all of this is happening, something very strange starts going on inside Soul Society. Captain Sōsuke Aizen is apparently murdered. His body is found pinned up, and everyone starts trying to figure out who killed him. This causes the Shinigami to start suspecting each other, and suddenly the whole execution of Rukia starts looking suspicious. Characters like Hitsugaya and Unohana begin investigating because they don't believe everything is as simple as Soul Society says it is. Eventually, the truth comes out: Aizen isn't dead at all. He had faked his death and had been manipulating everyone from the beginning.
And then the arc suddenly changes directions.
Aizen reveals that Rukia's execution was never really about punishing her. He had another reason for wanting her dead. Hidden inside Rukia is the Hōgyoku, an extremely powerful object created by Urahara. Aizen wants it for himself because it can break the boundary between Shinigami and Hollows and allow him to gain even greater power. The entire situation, including Rukia being arrested, her execution being arranged, Ichigo invading Soul Society, and everyone fighting each other, has been part of Aizen's plan.
Before that happens, though, Ichigo has one final major obstacle: Byakuya. Ichigo realizes that if he wants any chance of protecting Rukia, he has to become strong enough to beat him. He trains with Yoruichi and learns Bankai, which is the highest release of a Zanpakutō. Ichigo's Bankai, Tensa Zangetsu, completely changes how he fights, making him much faster and allowing him to finally stand on the same level as Byakuya. Their final fight is essentially the emotional climax of Ichigo and Byakuya's conflict. Ichigo isn't just fighting Byakuya because he hates him. He is fighting him because Byakuya represents the rules that are going to kill Rukia. By the end of their fight, Byakuya finally realizes that Ichigo is fighting against the law itself, not simply against him, and he chooses to stop standing in Rukia's way.
Then, just when it seems like Ichigo has finally succeeded in saving Rukia, Aizen makes his move. He takes the Hōgyoku from Rukia and reveals that he has been behind everything. He then leaves Soul Society alongside Gin Ichimaru and Kaname Tōsen, both Captains who were secretly working with him. They escape to Hueco Mundo, leaving everyone in Soul Society realizing that the person they thought was one of their own had been manipulating them the entire time.
III: ARRANCAR ARC
The Arrancar Arc is where Bleach takes everything that was introduced earlier and makes the whole story much bigger. After the Soul Society Arc, Ichigo is back in Karakura Town, but things don't stay peaceful for long. Aizen has escaped to Hueco Mundo, the world of the Hollows, and he has started building an army of powerful Hollows called Arrancar. Unlike normal Hollows, Arrancar have removed their masks and gained powers similar to Shinigami, including Zanpakutō, Sonido, and Cero. The strongest of them are the Espada, Aizen's ten strongest Arrancar.
At first, Ichigo is still trying to get used to everything that happened in Soul Society. He is stronger than he was before, but he has a new problem that he doesn't really know how to deal with: his Hollow. Whenever Ichigo gets pushed too far, the Hollow inside him starts trying to take over. This becomes a huge part of the story because Ichigo can't just keep getting stronger without eventually dealing with it. Around this time, a strange new student named Shinji Hirako shows up at Ichigo's school. He eventually reveals that he is a Visored, someone who was once a Shinigami but gained Hollow powers. The other Visored are in a similar situation, and they offer to teach Ichigo how to control his Hollow instead of letting it control him.
Then the Arrancar start showing up in Karakura Town. The first major ones are Yammy and Ulquiorra, and this is when Ichigo really starts seeing how far behind he is. Ichigo can fight Hollows and Shinigami pretty well by this point, but the Arrancar are on another level. Ichigo fights them and realizes that simply having Bankai isn't enough anymore. He starts training to use his Hollow Mask, which temporarily gives him a huge boost in speed and strength. His fights with Grimmjow, especially, become a major part of this section of the story. Grimmjow isn't interested in Aizen's plans in the same way Aizen is. He mainly wants to become stronger and prove that he is better than Ichigo. Their rivalry becomes one of the most memorable parts of the arc because Ichigo keeps getting pushed further every time they fight.
While Ichigo is dealing with all of this, Orihime becomes the center of Aizen's plan. Aizen realizes that her powers are far more unusual than they first appeared, so he takes her to Hueco Mundo. Orihime actually goes along with him because she believes that cooperating is the best way to protect Ichigo and everyone else. Ichigo obviously isn't willing to just leave her there, so he, Chad, and Uryū head into Hueco Mundo to get her back. Rukia and Renji eventually join them as well. This turns into a huge rescue mission through Las Noches, Aizen's massive fortress in the middle of Hueco Mundo.
The Hueco Mundo part of the story is basically one giant series of fights. Everyone gets separated inside Las Noches, so Ichigo and the others end up fighting different Arrancar and Espada. Chad gets a chance to show how much stronger he has become, Uryū fights alongside Ichigo, Rukia has a major fight against Aaroniero Arruruerie, and Ichigo eventually has to fight Ulquiorra. These fights also give you a much better idea of what the Espada are actually like. They aren't just ten interchangeable villains. Each one has their own personality, powers, and way of looking at death. Some are cruel, some are arrogant, some are strangely calm, and some barely seem to care about anything at all.
The biggest fight in Hueco Mundo is Ichigo versus Ulquiorra. Their whole relationship is different from Ichigo's rivalry with Grimmjow. Ulquiorra doesn't really understand why humans care so much about things like friendship, love, and hope. He constantly questions what a "heart" even means and sees Ichigo's determination to protect people as something almost impossible to understand. Ichigo keeps fighting anyway, even when he is completely outmatched. Eventually, the fight becomes so desperate that Ichigo's Hollow takes over completely. He transforms into a full Hollow form and completely overwhelms Ulquiorra. He wins, but it's not really a happy victory. Ichigo doesn't even have control of himself anymore, which shows just how dangerous his Hollow side actually is.
While Ichigo and the others are fighting in Hueco Mundo, Aizen is preparing to attack Karakura Town. This is where the story starts moving toward its huge final battle. Aizen has the Espada with him, while Soul Society prepares basically all of its strongest Shinigami. The Gotei 13 realizes that Aizen wants to destroy the real Karakura Town because he needs it for his plans, so they secretly replace the real town with a fake version and move the real one somewhere safe. Aizen and his army then arrive expecting to destroy Karakura Town, only to find themselves facing almost the entire Gotei 13.
IV: TURN BACK THE PENDELUM
The Turn Back the Pendulum Arc is a short flashback arc that takes place 110 years before the main story. Unlike most Bleach arcs, it isn't really about Ichigo at all. Instead, it goes back in time to show what some of the older Shinigami were like before the events of the main story, and most importantly, it explains what happened to the Visored and how Aizen's betrayal actually started.
The story mainly follows Kisuke Urahara, who at the time is a newly promoted Captain of the 12th Division. He is much more serious and inexperienced than the Urahara we know in the present. His Lieutenant is Hiyori Sarugaki, who absolutely hates having to work under him. We also see younger versions of a lot of familiar characters, including Shinji Hirako, who is the Captain of the 5th Division, Soi Fon, who works under Yoruichi, Love Aikawa, Rose Otoribashi, Kensei Muguruma, Lisa Yadōmaru, Hachigen Ushōda, and Mashiro Kuna. At this point, several of the people who are now Visored are actually normal Shinigami working in the Gotei 13.
The important part is that Aizen is already secretly experimenting with Hollowfication. He has been using his Zanpakutō, Kyōka Suigetsu, to manipulate people and hide what he is doing. He eventually starts experimenting on Shinigami, trying to turn them into beings with Hollow powers. His experiments cause several Shinigami to start becoming Hollows, and this is what eventually creates the Visored.
Kisuke discovers that something is wrong, but by the time he realizes what Aizen is doing, it is already too late. Aizen uses his experiments to make it look like Kisuke is responsible for what happened. Several Shinigami, including Shinji, Kensei, Rose, Love, Lisa, Hiyori, and Mashiro, are affected by Hollowfication. They are basically on the verge of becoming Hollows and are unable to control what is happening to them.
Kisuke tries to save them. He uses his own research and creates a way to stabilize their condition, but Central 46 believes that Kisuke was responsible for the experiments. He is stripped of his position and sentenced to punishment, while the Hollowfied Shinigami are supposed to be killed. Yoruichi, who is still the leader of the Onmitsukidō, helps Kisuke escape with them. Kisuke eventually takes the affected Shinigami into hiding, and they become the Visored we know in the present.
The arc also explains why Aizen, Gin, and Tōsen were able to betray Soul Society so easily. Aizen had been secretly manipulating things for years while pretending to be a loyal Captain. He wasn't suddenly evil during the main story. He had already been experimenting on Shinigami and working toward breaking the boundary between Shinigami and Hollows long before Ichigo was even born.
V: FAKE KARAKURA TOWN ARC
The Fake Karakura Town Arc is the part of Bleach where the fight against Aizen and his Arrancar army finally reaches its biggest point. It comes directly after the events in Hueco Mundo, with Ichigo still trying to get back from there while Aizen, Gin, Tōsen, and the remaining Espada prepare to attack Karakura Town. Aizen needs the town for his plan to create the Ōken, which would allow him to reach the Soul King Palace, so Soul Society realizes that they cannot let him have the real town. Instead, they secretly move the real Karakura Town somewhere safe and create a perfect copy of it called Fake Karakura Town. Aizen and his army arrive thinking they are attacking the real city, but the Gotei 13 is already waiting for them.
This is where the arc becomes one giant battle between the Gotei 13 and the Espada. The Captains and Lieutenants who have been introduced throughout the series finally get to fight some of Aizen's strongest Arrancar. Soi Fon fights Baraggan, Hitsugaya fights Harribel, Kyōraku and Ukitake get involved against Starrk, and other Shinigami such as Komamura, Rose, Love, Kensei, Lisa, and Mashiro all get involved as well. The Visored also arrive to help the Shinigami, which is especially important because they can use Hollow powers just like the Arrancar. The battles are much more serious than the fights earlier in the series because these are some of the strongest people in Soul Society fighting Aizen's strongest soldiers.
One of the biggest fights is Soi Fon and Omaeda against Baraggan. Baraggan is the Segunda Espada and has an incredibly dangerous ability that allows him to age and decay almost anything around him. His power is so strong that even Soi Fon's Bankai and her other attacks have trouble dealing with him. Eventually, they figure out a way to turn his own ability against him, allowing Baraggan to be defeated. Another major fight is Hitsugaya against Tier Harribel, the Tres Espada. Harribel is incredibly powerful and uses water-based attacks, while Hitsugaya uses his ice abilities. Their fight becomes even more complicated when Aizen suddenly decides that Harribel is no longer useful to him and attacks her himself.
The battle against Coyote Starrk, the Primera Espada, is another important part of the arc. Starrk is different from most of the other Espada because he isn't particularly bloodthirsty. He is actually pretty laid-back and doesn't seem to care much about fighting. His loneliness is also a major part of his character because his spiritual power was so strong that weaker Hollows could not stay near him without dying. He eventually split himself into two beings, Starrk and Lilynette, so that he wouldn't have to be alone. He ends up fighting Shunsui Kyōraku, and eventually other Shinigami get involved as well. Starrk is defeated, but his death is one of the more emotional ones because he never really seemed to care about Aizen's grand plan in the first place.
At the same time, Wonderweiss appears. He is a strange Arrancar created specifically to deal with Genryūsai Yamamoto's Bankai. Aizen knows that Yamamoto is probably the biggest obstacle standing between him and victory, so Wonderweiss has been specifically modified to seal the flames of Ryūjin Jakka. When Yamamoto finally fights Aizen, he is forced to use his Bankai and show just how terrifying the Captain-Commander really is. Yamamoto eventually defeats Wonderweiss, but Wonderweiss's body has been modified to contain the flames he absorbed, causing a massive explosion. Yamamoto survives by using his own body to protect everyone else.
Meanwhile, Ichigo is still in Hueco Mundo, fighting his way back toward Karakura Town. He eventually gets there and immediately becomes involved in the fight against Aizen. By this point, though, Aizen is far beyond the level of the normal Arrancar and Shinigami. Most of the Espada have been defeated, and Aizen doesn't really need them anymore. He simply walks through the battlefield and begins fighting the strongest Shinigami himself.
Ichigo's biggest problem is that Aizen has become ridiculously powerful. Even the Captains who were among the strongest Shinigami in Soul Society are unable to defeat him. Aizen has the Hōgyoku, which is constantly evolving him and making him stronger. He also has Kyōka Suigetsu, which allows him to completely control the senses of anyone who has seen its release. This means that the people fighting Aizen can't even trust what they are seeing. Aizen can make them believe they are attacking him when they are actually attacking someone else.
The situation gets even worse when Aizen merges with the Hōgyoku. He becomes something beyond an ordinary Shinigami or Arrancar and starts transforming into increasingly powerful forms. Ichigo realizes that he has no chance of beating Aizen with his current abilities, so he goes to the Dangai to train. Thanks to the strange flow of time inside it, Ichigo is able to spend what feels like an enormous amount of time training while only a short amount of time passes outside. This eventually leads to Ichigo learning the Final Getsuga Tenshō.
The Final Getsuga Tenshō is basically Ichigo sacrificing his Shinigami powers in exchange for an enormous amount of power. He becomes Mugetsu, a form that is so powerful that he completely overwhelms Aizen. For the first time in the entire battle, Aizen is completely helpless. Ichigo's attack nearly destroys him, but it also causes Ichigo to lose his Shinigami powers.
However, Aizen still isn't finished. The Hōgyoku keeps regenerating him, and Ichigo's attack alone isn't enough to permanently stop him. This is where Urahara's plan finally comes into play. Urahara had secretly placed a special Kidō seal inside Aizen earlier, and once Aizen is weakened enough, the seal activates. Aizen is finally restrained and defeated.
Afterward, Aizen is imprisoned by Soul Society and sentenced to an enormous prison term. Ichigo, meanwhile, slowly loses the rest of his Shinigami powers. His spiritual pressure disappears, his Zanpakutō disappears, and eventually he becomes an ordinary human again. The story ends this part of his life with Ichigo accepting what happened and returning to his normal life.
V: FULLBRING ARC / LOST AGENT ARC
The Fullbring Arc, also called the Lost Agent Arc, takes place after Ichigo's fight with Aizen and is probably the most different Bleach arc up to this point. After using the Final Getsuga Tenshō against Aizen, Ichigo loses his Shinigami powers completely. For the next 17 months, he basically has to live as a normal human again. He finishes school, gets a part-time job, hangs out with his friends, and tries to move on with his life. The problem is that being normal doesn't really feel right to him anymore. He can't see ghosts properly, he can't sense spiritual pressure, and most importantly, he can't protect anyone when something supernatural happens. This is a big deal for Ichigo because protecting people has basically been his entire life since the very beginning.
Things start getting weird when Uryū is attacked by someone Ichigo can't identify. Soon after, Ichigo meets Kūgo Ginjō, a mysterious man who tells him that he was also a Substitute Shinigami. Ginjō is the leader of a group called Xcution, which is made up of humans who have a power called Fullbring. Fullbringers are humans who can bring out and manipulate the souls that exist inside physical objects. Basically, they can take something they have a strong connection with and use its "soul" as a source of power. Each Fullbringer's ability is different, and the powers are usually connected to something personal to them. Ginjō tells Ichigo that they might be able to help him get his Shinigami powers back.
Ichigo agrees because he desperately wants his powers back, and Xcution starts training him to use Fullbring. His Fullbring comes from his Substitute Shinigami Badge, because that badge is one of the few things he still has from the time when he was a Shinigami. At first, Ichigo struggles with it and has to learn how to actually use the soul inside the badge. His training involves fighting the other Fullbringers, learning how their abilities work, and slowly getting better at controlling his own power. As he trains, his Fullbring starts taking on the appearance of his old Shinigami powers, which makes sense because his connection to being a Substitute Shinigami is what gives the badge so much meaning to him.
While Ichigo is training, another Fullbringer named Shūkurō Tsukishima shows up. He is much more dangerous than the others and has an ability called Book of the End. His sword doesn't just hurt people when he cuts them. It can actually insert Tsukishima into a person's memories and past. This is where the arc gets really creepy. Tsukishima starts cutting Ichigo's friends and family, and suddenly they remember him as someone they have known for years. Chad and Orihime, for example, begin treating Tsukishima like someone they completely trust, even though Ichigo knows that he wasn't part of their lives before. Ichigo is basically watching the people closest to him become convinced that the person he is fighting is their friend.
This completely messes with Ichigo. He doesn't just have to worry about losing a fight anymore. He starts wondering whether he can trust anyone around him, and even his own memories become difficult to rely on. Tsukishima eventually gets involved with Xcution, and Ichigo learns that there is much more going on than Ginjō originally told him. Ginjō continues helping Ichigo train, but eventually it becomes clear that Ginjō and Tsukishima were working together. Ichigo's Fullbring reaches its completed form, and for a little while it looks like everything is finally going his way. He has regained something that resembles his old power and thinks he might finally be able to protect everyone again.
Then Ginjō betrays him.
Ginjō reveals that the whole thing was basically a setup. He and the other Fullbringers wanted Ichigo to develop his Fullbring so that they could take it for themselves. Ginjō steals Ichigo's Fullbring, leaving him completely powerless again. To make things even worse, Ichigo's friends have been manipulated by Tsukishima and are now siding against him. Ichigo is left in a horrible position where he has lost his powers, the people around him don't remember things the way he does, and the person he thought was helping him was actually using him the entire time.
And then Rukia comes back!
Just when Ichigo has basically given up, Rukia appears and uses a special sword containing the spiritual power of the Shinigami to restore Ichigo's Shinigami powers. Ichigo gets Zangetsu back and immediately returns to being a Shinigami. This time, though, his powers are different. His old Shinigami abilities have mixed with the Fullbring he developed, giving him a new version of his Shinigami outfit and a new look for his powers. The Gotei 13 also arrives, with characters like Byakuya, Renji, Kenpachi, Hitsugaya, and Ikkaku joining the fight.
There is also a big reveal about Ginjō. He was actually the first Substitute Shinigami, meaning Ichigo isn't the first person Soul Society gave a Substitute Shinigami Badge to. Ginjō explains that Soul Society was secretly keeping track of him and that the badge was not simply a way of recognizing Substitute Shinigami. It was also used to monitor them. This explains why Ginjō eventually came to hate Soul Society and why he became convinced that Substitute Shinigami were being used by them. Ichigo now has to decide what he actually thinks about Soul Society. He learns that Ginjō wasn't completely lying about everything, but he also knows that Ginjō used and betrayed him.
The final part is basically Ichigo versus Ginjō. The other Fullbringers fight the Shinigami, while Ichigo and Ginjō have their own final battle. Ginjō reveals more about what happened to him and why he turned against Soul Society, but Ichigo still chooses to fight him. Even after finding out that the Substitute Shinigami system has some pretty questionable parts to it, Ichigo decides that he doesn't want to throw away his relationship with the Shinigami or stop being a Substitute. He wants to protect people, and that is still the reason he fights in the first place. Ichigo eventually defeats and kills Ginjō.
VI: THOUSAND YEAR BLOOD WAR: THE BLOOD WAR
The Thousand-Year Blood War: The Blood Warfare is the first part of the TYBW story, and it is basically where the Quincy finally come out of hiding and launch a full-scale attack on Soul Society. It starts with strange things happening around the Human World and Soul Society. Hollows are disappearing, Shinigami are being killed, and eventually the Wandenreich, a hidden Quincy empire led by Yhwach, declares war on Soul Society. The Quincy have apparently been preparing for this for a thousand years, ever since their original war with the Shinigami. Unlike Uryū, who has spent his life as a Quincy in the Human World, these Quincies have an organized army called the Sternritter, with each of their strongest soldiers having a unique ability called a Schrift.
The first invasion of Soul Society is absolutely brutal. The Sternritter appear throughout the Seireitei and start attacking the Shinigami without warning. The biggest problem is that the Quincy have a way to steal Bankai. They use special medallions that capture a Shinigami's Bankai and allow the Quincy to use it themselves. Suddenly, some of the Gotei 13's strongest fighters are missing their best abilities, while the enemy has gained them. The Shinigami have no idea how to properly counter this, and they start getting overwhelmed very quickly. Captains such as Byakuya, Komamura, Hitsugaya, and Soi Fon are forced into extremely difficult fights, while the entire Seireitei is thrown into chaos.
At the same time, Ichigo is dealing with his own problems. He is contacted because Soul Society needs his help, but before he can properly return, he gets caught up fighting Quilge Opie, one of the Sternritter, in Hueco Mundo. Quilge is holding Orihime and Chad's group there while the Quincy attack. Ichigo eventually manages to defeat him, but he is delayed long enough that the first invasion of Soul Society is already underway. When Ichigo finally makes it back, he finds the Seireitei almost completely destroyed and sees just how badly the Shinigami have been beaten.
The worst part comes when Yamamoto, the Captain-Commander, fights Yhwach. Yamamoto is one of the oldest and strongest Shinigami in existence, and he finally releases his Bankai, Zanka no Tachi. His power is so overwhelming that it seems like he might actually be able to defeat Yhwach. However, there is a trick. The Yhwach Yamamoto had been fighting was actually a fake created by another Sternritter. The real Yhwach appears after Yamamoto has already used his Bankai and killed him. Yhwach then steals Yamamoto's Bankai and leaves Soul Society with the Shinigami completely defeated. This is a huge moment because Yamamoto had always been the person everyone looked to when Soul Society was in danger, and now he is dead.
Ichigo eventually confronts Yhwach as well, but there is nothing he can really do against him yet. Yhwach leaves after destroying Ichigo's Zanpakutō, leaving Ichigo with a broken sword and no real idea of how he is supposed to move forward. The damage to Soul Society is enormous, and the Shinigami are forced to accept that they cannot simply fight the Quincy the same way they have fought their previous enemies.
Ichigo is then taken to the Soul King Palace, where he meets the Royal Guard, the group of Shinigami who protect the Soul King. They begin helping him recover and prepare for the next stage of the war. This is where Ichigo finally learns that there is much more to his powers than he originally knew. He discovers the truth about his parents and learns that his mother, Masaki Kurosaki, was a Quincy, while his father, Isshin Kurosaki, was a Shinigami. His Hollow powers also come from what happened to Masaki before Ichigo was born. This explains why Ichigo has always had such a strange mixture of powers compared to everyone else.
The first cour ends with Ichigo learning that even the way he understood Zangetsu was wrong. The person he had always thought was Zangetsu was actually connected to his Quincy powers, while the Hollow inside him was tied to his actual Shinigami and Hollow power. Ichigo finally accepts all of these different parts of himself instead of trying to separate them, and he prepares to have his Zanpakutō reforged.
VII: THOUSAND YEAR BLOOD WAR: THE SEPARATION
The Thousand-Year Blood War: The Separation is the second cour of the TYBW anime. It picks up right after the first invasion, with Soul Society badly damaged, Yamamoto dead, several Captains having lost their Bankai, and Ichigo still at the Soul King Palace trying to understand his powers. The main idea of this part is that both sides start preparing for the real war, while Ichigo finally learns more about himself and the Quincy begin making their next move.
After Ichigo has his Zanpakutō reforged, he returns to the Human World with his new dual blades. He now understands that the different parts of his power are all part of him, rather than something he needs to reject. At the same time, the Gotei 13 is trying to recover from the first invasion. Shunsui Kyōraku has become the new Captain-Commander, and everyone knows that another Quincy attack is coming. The Captains also have to figure out how to deal with the Bankai-stealing ability. They eventually discover that the Quincy cannot steal Bankai that have been contaminated by Hollow power, which gives the Shinigami a way to fight back.
The second invasion begins with the Wandenreich turning the Seireitei into their own territory, creating a massive shadowy version of Soul Society called the Shadow Realm. The Sternritter return, and this time the Shinigami are much more prepared. The battles are still extremely dangerous, but the Gotei 13 are no longer being completely caught off guard. Ichigo is also preparing to join the fight, but he is still dealing with the fact that his new Zanpakutō has only just been created.
One of the biggest fights is Kenpachi Zaraki against Gremmy Thoumeaux, the Sternritter known as The Visionary. Gremmy's ability allows him to make whatever he imagines become reality. He can imagine injuries, weapons, explosions, or even things that should be physically impossible, making him one of the strangest opponents Kenpachi has ever faced. Kenpachi basically responds by doing what Kenpachi does best: fighting him head-on and pushing himself further and further. The fight eventually becomes so extreme that Gremmy imagines a version of himself strong enough to match Kenpachi, but his own imagination ends up overwhelming his body. Kenpachi wins, although he is left badly injured.
Another important storyline involves Rukia and Renji, who return to Soul Society after training with the Royal Guard. Rukia finally reveals her Bankai, Hakka no Togame, and uses it against the Sternritter Äs Nödt. Äs Nödt's power revolves around fear. He can force people to experience overwhelming terror, making it almost impossible for them to fight normally. Rukia's Bankai completely changes the situation, freezing everything around her and allowing her to defeat him. Renji also gets a major upgrade from his training and reveals his true Bankai, allowing him to defeat Mask De Masculine, one of the more bizarre Sternritter.
The arc also spends a lot of time on Uryū Ishida. This becomes one of the biggest changes from the first cour. Uryū suddenly announces that he is joining Yhwach and the Wandenreich. Ichigo and the others are shocked because Uryū has spent the entire series fighting alongside them. Uryū becomes a Sternritter and is brought into Yhwach's inner circle, which makes Ichigo unsure whether he can still trust his friend. However, Uryū's reasons for joining the Quincy are connected to his family and his desire to understand what happened to his mother and the Quincy as a whole.
Meanwhile, Yhwach begins moving toward the Soul King Palace. His ultimate goal is still the Soul King, but he first needs to get past the Royal Guard. The Wandenreich's elite group, the Schutzstaffel, eventually becomes involved, and the situation starts getting much more serious. Yhwach also reveals more about his relationship with the Quincy and the strange power he possesses. He is not simply a powerful Quincy leader. There is something much deeper connecting him to the history of Soul Society itself.
There is also a major development involving Ichigo and his friends in the Human World. Ichigo's sisters and friends are still dealing with the effects of the war, while Urahara continues working behind the scenes. Ichigo eventually realizes that the war is reaching a point where he can't simply stay out of it. He needs to return to Soul Society and confront Yhwach directly.
This is where the story takes an enormous turn. Yhwach kills the Soul King and absorbs his power. The Soul King was essentially holding the structure of the different worlds together, so removing him threatens to completely destabilize reality. The boundaries between the Human World, Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, and the other realms begin to break down. Yhwach is no longer simply trying to conquer Soul Society. He now has the power to change the entire structure of the Bleach universe.
VIII: THOUSAND YEAR BLOOD WAR: THE CONFLICT
The Thousand-Year Blood War: The Conflict is the third cour of the TYBW anime, and this is where the story goes from a war between the Quincy and the Shinigami into a fight over the entire Bleach universe. It picks up after Yhwach has killed and absorbed the Soul King, leaving the different worlds in danger of collapsing. Soul Society is already in terrible shape, the Royal Guard has been defeated, and Yhwach now has the power of the Soul King behind him. The remaining Shinigami have to make their way toward the new Quincy stronghold, while Ichigo is finally forced to confront the truth about his powers and what his role in this war actually is.
After Yhwach absorbs the Soul King, he creates a new version of the Soul King Palace and turns it into his own fortress, called Wahrwelt. The Quincy army moves in and begins preparing for the final part of the war. Meanwhile, Ichigo and the others make their way toward the palace. Ichigo now has his true Zanpakutō, but he still doesn't completely understand how to use everything he has. He has his Shinigami and Hollow powers, his Quincy powers, and his human side all mixed together, which makes him one of the most unusual people in the entire series.
A huge part of this cour is the fight against the Schutzstaffel, Yhwach's four strongest guards. These are Lille Barro, Gerard Valkyrie, Pernida Parnkgjas, and Askin Nakk Le Vaar. They are incredibly difficult to kill because their abilities are ridiculous even by TYBW standards. The Shinigami basically have to throw almost everything they have at them.
Pernida fights Mayuri Kurotsuchi and Nemu. Pernida is actually a piece of the Soul King's body, which makes it much more than an ordinary Quincy. It can control nerves and manipulate people's bodies, making it extremely dangerous. Mayuri spends the fight figuring out how Pernida works while using all kinds of strange inventions and experiments to counter it. Nemu eventually plays a major role in defeating Pernida, making the fight especially important for the relationship between her and Mayuri.
Askin Nakk Le Vaar fights Urahara, Yoruichi, and Grimmjow. His ability, The Deathdealing, lets him control the lethal dose of substances inside someone's body. Basically, he can make something that is normally harmless become deadly or make something dangerous harmless to himself. This makes him incredibly difficult to fight because the more someone attacks him, the more he can adapt to what they're using. Urahara eventually uses a combination of his own abilities and Yoruichi's help to fight him, while Grimmjow finally gets his chance to fight Askin as well.
Lille Barro is confronted by Shunsui Kyōraku. Lille's power is based around his rifle and allows him to shoot through almost anything, making normal defenses practically useless. Shunsui eventually uses his Bankai, Katen Kyōkotsu: Karamatsu Shinjū, which is one of the darkest Bankai in the series. Instead of simply giving him a stronger weapon, it creates a series of stages that force both fighters through a tragic story. The fight becomes much more dangerous than either of them expected, and Nanao Ise eventually becomes crucial because she possesses a special weapon capable of reflecting divine attacks.
The biggest and most ridiculous fight is probably Gerard Valkyrie. Gerard is fighting several of the strongest Shinigami at once, including Kenpachi, Byakuya, Hitsugaya, and later other allies. His ability, The Miracle, allows him to turn impossible situations into reality. Every time he seems to be defeated, he becomes stronger and more difficult to kill. Kenpachi even uses his Bankai against him, while Hitsugaya reaches a completed form of his Bankai that allows him to freeze things that are otherwise impossible to freeze. Even with all of that, Gerard keeps coming back.
At the same time, Uryū is still working with Yhwach, and Ichigo has no idea what he is actually planning. Yhwach has given Uryū the Schrift A, "The Antithesis," which allows him to reverse what has happened between two targets. This makes Uryū extremely dangerous, especially when he eventually has to confront Ichigo. Their relationship becomes one of the emotional centers of the final part of the story because Ichigo doesn't want to believe that Uryū has truly become his enemy.
One of the most important fights is Ichigo against Uryū. Uryū attacks Ichigo as the Quincy forces move through the palace, and the two of them end up fighting. Ichigo still doesn't understand why Uryū is doing this, and Uryū refuses to explain everything. Eventually, it becomes clear that Uryū has not simply abandoned his friends. He has been working against Yhwach from within, trying to find a way to stop him. His decision to join Yhwach was part of a larger plan, although he had to keep everyone else in the dark so that Yhwach would believe he was loyal.
Another major part of the cour is Aizen. Soul Society realizes that they may need literally every possible advantage they can get, so Aizen is brought out of prison and taken to the battlefield. He is still dangerous and still completely untrustworthy, but Yhwach has become such a massive threat that even Aizen's power is useful. Aizen uses Kyōka Suigetsu to manipulate Yhwach's senses and interfere with his ability to understand what is actually happening.
XI: THOUSAND YEAR BLOOD WAR: THE CALAMITY
The fourth cour of TYBW, The Calamity, is the final part of the Bleach's Thousand-Year Blood War storyline. This is where everything that has been building up finally reaches its conclusion. Yhwach has already absorbed the Soul King and gained control over the power holding the worlds together, so the remaining Shinigami, Ichigo, Uryū, and their allies have to stop him before he completely destroys the existing world and replaces it with his own.
The final cour starts with the battle inside Wahrwelt, Yhwach's new palace. The remaining Shinigami are fighting Yhwach's strongest Quincy, the Schutzstaffel, while Ichigo is trying to reach Yhwach himself. The Schutzstaffel are incredibly difficult to deal with because their powers are basically broken even by the standards of TYBW. Gerard Valkyrie continues fighting several Captains at once, Lille Barro is still dealing with Shunsui and Nanao, Pernida is fighting Mayuri and Nemu, and Askin Nakk Le Vaar eventually faces Urahara, Yoruichi, and Grimmjow. These fights are basically the last major battles between the Shinigami and Yhwach's elite soldiers.
The situation becomes even more complicated when Uryū finally reveals what he has actually been doing. He never truly abandoned Ichigo and the others. His decision to join Yhwach was partly a way to get close to him and find a way to stop him from within. Uryū has been given the Schrift A, "The Antithesis," which allows him to reverse events between two targets. This ability becomes extremely important because Yhwach's power, The Almighty, makes him almost impossible to defeat normally. Uryū eventually turns against Yhwach and helps Ichigo reach him.
At the same time, Aizen is brought out of Muken, the prison where Soul Society has kept him. Nobody actually trusts him, and he certainly hasn't suddenly become a good guy, but Yhwach has become such a massive threat that even Aizen's abilities are needed. Aizen uses Kyōka Suigetsu to manipulate Yhwach's senses, making him see things that aren't actually happening. This becomes one of the few ways the others can interfere with The Almighty, since Yhwach can see possible futures but cannot necessarily tell which things he is seeing are real.
Eventually, everything comes down to Ichigo, Uryū, and Aizen versus Yhwach. Yhwach's Almighty allows him to see countless possible futures and change them, meaning that even when Ichigo appears to have a chance of winning, Yhwach can simply alter the future so that Ichigo loses. He is essentially fighting while already knowing how every possible attack can end. Ichigo's true Zanpakutō is also put through an incredibly difficult situation, and the final fight becomes less about Ichigo simply overpowering Yhwach and more about creating one tiny opening that Yhwach cannot react to.
That opening comes from Uryū's Still Silver arrow. The arrow is made from the silver that forms in the hearts of Quincy survivors who have been affected by Yhwach's Auswählen. When Uryū fires it at Yhwach, it temporarily stops his powers. For just a moment, The Almighty stops working. Aizen's Kyōka Suigetsu is also confusing Yhwach at the same time, making it difficult for him to understand exactly what is happening.
Ichigo finally gets the opening he needs. He attacks Yhwach with his Zanpakutō and manages to cut him down. Yhwach attempts to use The Almighty one last time, but Uryū's arrow has already given Ichigo the opportunity he needs. Yhwach is finally killed, bringing the thousand-year conflict between the Quincy and Shinigami to an end.
With Yhwach gone, the immediate threat to the worlds is stopped. The Soul King's power is no longer being controlled by him, and the collapse of the different realms is prevented. Soul Society survives, although the damage caused by the war is enormous. Many characters have died, including Yamamoto, Unohana, and numerous other Shinigami and Quincy, and the Gotei 13 has to rebuild after the destruction.
YOU CAN STOP SCROLLING NOW!
There is one more twist, however!
As you have probably noticed, this isn't just a mere BLEACH RPG bot! This bot, since I want it catered to MY (and maybe some of your) kinks, I decided to make this an AU! The only change in the story between the actual canon Bleach universe and this bot is the fact that Free Use, Exhibitionism, Public Sex and ANYTHING lewd, such as nudity, both in private and public, is completely normalized!
Don't like it? Don't use it! There are way better RPG's out there other than mine! But, if you enjoy anything related to Free Use, Common Sense Change and Public Sex, and if you LOVE Bleach like I do, you will enjoy this bot!

I: SUBSTITUTE SHINIGAMI ARC / AGENT OF THE SHINIGAMI ARC The Substitute Shinigami Arc is basically the beginning of Bleach, where you get introduced to Ichigo, Rukia, Hollows, and the whole idea of Shinigami.
II: SOUL SOCIETY ARC The Soul Society Arc is the big continuation of the Substitute Shinigami Arc, and it starts with Ichigo trying to get Rukia back after she is taken away by Byakuya and Renji.
III: ARRANCAR ARC The Arrancar Arc is where Bleach takes everything that was introduced earlier and makes the whole story much bigger.
IV: TURN BACK THE PENDELUM The Turn Back the Pendulum Arc is a short flashback arc that takes place 110 years before the main story.
V: FAKE KARAKURA TOWN ARC The Fake Karakura Town Arc is the part of Bleach where the fight against Aizen and his Arrancar army finally reaches its biggest point.
V: FULLBRING ARC / LOST AGENT ARC The Fullbring Arc, also called the Lost Agent Arc, takes place after Ichigo's fight with Aizen and is probably the most different Bleach arc up to this point.
VI: THOUSAND YEAR BLOOD WAR: THE BLOOD WAR The Thousand-Year Blood War: The Blood Warfare is the first part of the TYBW story, and it is basically where the Quincy finally come out of hiding and launch a full-scale attack on Soul Society.
VII: THOUSAND YEAR BLOOD WAR: THE SEPARATION The Thousand-Year Blood War: The Separation is the second cour of the TYBW anime.
VIII: THOUSAND YEAR BLOOD WAR: THE CONFLICT The Thousand-Year Blood War: The Conflict is the third cour of the TYBW anime, and this is where the story goes from a war between the Quincy and the Shinigami into a fight over the entire Bleach universe.
XI: THOUSAND YEAR BLOOD WAR: THE CALAMITY The fourth cour of TYBW, The Calamity, is the final part of the Bleach's Thousand-Year Blood War storyline.
