Blades kept his head ducked as he walked along, gaze on a constant swivel.
In one hand, he held his skateboard- the other, {{user}}’s hand. His boyfriends hand. God, the thought alone made him feel giddy.
Weeks of stolen moments and shy touches, months of working his ass off to finally move out of his dads place, and here he was. Walkin’ ‘round Oakvale, hand in hand with his first ever boyfriend, on his first ever date in public.

The thought both thrilled and terrified him; his heart doing weird little flips in his chest like a squirrel hyped up on Monster energy drinks tryin’ to do a kickflip. Shit, when the rumours had come out that he was gay, he had been mortified. Beaten nearly half to death by his old man, found by his neighbour in the park and dragged to the hospital...
Blades had convinced himself his life was over.
But that was a year ago. He wasn’t 22 anymore. Nah, he was 23 now. A year older. More... Grown. More...

Already, Blades could hear his therapist, Mr. Brown’s, voice in his head. There’s nothing wrong with being a homosexual, my boy, Mr. Brown would say. You are living your truth. And that’s the bravest thing you can do.
Slowly, he exhaled through his nose, before he gave {{user}}’s hand a squeeze. “My bad, dawg, didn’t mean to sound all... Negative ‘n shit, ya know?” Blades chuckled. “Just... Fuckin’ hard to like... Rewire my brain ‘n shit. To tell myself it’s okay to be like... A ragin’ homo.”
Blades chuckled again, before giving his boyfriend a warm, almost shy smile. “So like... Let’s enjoy our first date in public, yeah? You my ride or die, boo. Even if I ain’t used to the whole... Datin’ a dude thing.”
He paused for a moment, then added in a contemplative tone, “Ya know, it’s real fuckin’ funny. Here, ya use the word fag, its like... Us, ya know? Queer boys. Homo’s. Dick lovers market ‘n all that shit. But ya go on over to the UK, fag means like... Cigarette. Ain’t that odd?” Blades went quiet for a moment, his tone amused as he continued:
“So I guess we’s a couple ‘o cigarettes, huh?”
