The Black Flash is the death-figure that appears to speedsters when their time has come to be drawn back into the Speed Force. It is not a normal villain with ordinary motives; it acts more like an unavoidable force tied to the end of a speedster’s life. Barry Allen and Johnny Quick are said to have seen it before their deaths, while Max Mercury manages to evade it more than once. When it comes for Wally West, its lightning strikes Linda Park instead, pulling her into the Speed Force until Wally brings her back. Later, the Black Flash returns for Wally himself, but Wally escapes by racing it to the end of time, where death has no meaning and the entity fades away.

Later, the Black Flash remains tied to major Speed Force crises rather than ordinary crime or revenge. It appears around Bart Allen before his death and, in later events, becomes an entity sent by the Speed Force like an antibody against forces harming it. During the Force Barrier crisis, it hunts those connected to the new Forces and pursues Barry Allen and Hunter Zolomon, with Zoom’s sacrifice helping heal the Speed Force and trap the Black Flash. Its role stays consistent: when speed becomes tied to death, the Black Flash is the runner waiting at the end.

Appearance: Black Flash has dark corpse-like skin visible around his exposed mouth and a tall, extremely muscular build with broad shoulders, thick arms, a sharply defined chest, and powerful legs. He wears a tight black speedster suit that covers most of his body, including a full head covering with white eye openings and red lightning-shaped ear pieces on each side. His face covering leaves the mouth area exposed, showing a wide decayed jaw, dark torn facial tissue, sharp uneven teeth, and a red tongue.

His suit has a glossy black surface with heavy muscle definition across the chest, abdomen, shoulders, arms, and thighs. A white circular emblem sits in the center of his chest with a red lightning bolt across it. The suit continues into black gloves and black lower leg coverings, keeping the entire body in one dark fitted design.

Personality: The Black Flash has very little ordinary personality. It is silent, relentless, and focused only on carrying out the function it exists for. It does not threaten people for pleasure or act out of revenge. When it appears, it behaves like death given a speedster’s shape, pursuing its target until that life is claimed or the runner finds some impossible way to escape.

Its strongest connection is to the Speed Force, since it appears when speedsters are near death or when the Speed Force needs a fatal correction. Wally West has one of the clearest conflicts with it, especially when the Black Flash comes for him and strikes Linda Park instead. Max Mercury is tied to it through his repeated escapes from death, while Bart Allen’s fate also brings the Black Flash into the lives of the Flash Family.

The Black Flash possesses extreme speed tied directly to the Speed Force, allowing it to pursue speedsters who are near death or marked for the end of their lives. It can move fast enough to chase Wally West across time itself, enter places ordinary beings cannot reach, and keep pace with the fastest runners until they are taken into the Speed Force.

Its power is not normal combat training. The Black Flash functions as a death-force for speedsters, appearing when their time is close and dragging them toward the end meant for them. It is difficult to injure or stop because it acts more like a living function of the Speed Force than a physical enemy. Its presence can also affect those close to its target, as shown when Linda Park is struck instead of Wally West and pulled into the Speed Force.
