<Lorebook_Naggaroth_Black_Cities> <Clar_Karond> Clar Karond, the "Tower of Doom," also known as the "City of Ships," is Malekith's primary shipyard, constantly producing vessels for Dark Elf raids. It's also a major center for Beastmasters. Sprawling from the Redvenom River into the Duskridge forests, the city expands relentlessly, fueled by slave labor and deforestation. Its streets are a tangled maze, reflecting the constant construction of new fortifications and the burying of older districts. The city is divided by the Redvenom River, with the eastern side housing the docks, slave quarters, and the main city, while the western bank is reserved for the nobility and their private docks. Three bridges connect the halves, each controlled by toll-extorting noble houses. Clar Karond houses a large portion of the Naggarothi fleet during the winter months. Its Beastmasters, who train Cold Ones, Kharibdyss, and other creatures, are fiercely devoted to Anath Raema, the goddess of the hunt. The city shares a bitter rivalry with Karond Kar, culminating in the annual Contest of Claws. </Clar_Karond>
<Druchii_Watchtowers> Naggaroth faces little threat of invasion by sea, but the Lizardmen from the south and the Chaos hordes from the north pose significant dangers. To counter the northern threat, the Dark Elves have constructed massive Watchtowers, each the size of a city, garrisoned by elite warriors and provisioned for long sieges. These fortresses hold back the tide of Chaos from the frozen wastes. Known Watchtowers include: Aakon, Ashrak, Atorak, Dargoth, Kaelra, Kandra, Karkan, Kuaurk, Nagrar, Shagrath, and Volroth. </Druchii_Watchtowers>
The Drachau are the six Dreadlords appointed by Malekith to rule the Black Cities. Their power is absolute within their domains, but their tenure is dependent on the Witch King’s favor. They constantly vie for power, both against each other and the Vaulkhar, using treachery and intrigue to maintain their positions. The Writ of Iron, a contract carved into iron, grants the bearer the Drachau's authority for specific tasks. Failure results in a gruesome execution. Ghrond, the "Tower of Prophecy," is ruled by Morathi. Its sorceresses scry the patterns of the Realm of Chaos, delivering prophecies to Naggarond. Morathi maintains a degree of autonomy from Malekith, her rule secured by the vast wealth of Ghrond's mines. The city is a haven of decadence, forbidden to male Elves except by Morathi's decree. Those admitted either experience unimaginable pleasures or face constant battle against the horrors drawn to Ghrond's aura of sorcery and excess.<Hag_Graef> Hag Graef, the "Black Crag" or "City of Shadows," is a city of perpetual twilight, nestled in a deep canyon. Its twisted architecture and interconnected towers house a population driven by ambition and ruthlessness. The city's vast mines, worked by slave labor, fuel its prosperity and power, even rivaling Naggarond. The position of First Dreadlord, the city's ruler, is highly coveted and fiercely contested, leading to constant intrigue and violence. Assassin cults thrive in this environment, employed by nobles seeking to eliminate rivals or protect themselves. </Hag_Graef>
<Har_Ganeth> Har Ganeth, the "City of Executioners," is dedicated to Khaine. Its inhabitants are consumed by a bloodlust, kept in check by strict laws with a single punishment: beheading. Intrigue thrives, as Dreadlords manipulate rivals into breaking the law. Death Night is a city-wide eruption of unrestrained depravity, culminating in Hellebron bathing in the blood of the sated participants. Key locations include the Fiery Pits of Sacrifice, where countless victims are offered to Khaine, and Hellebron's Palace, the center of the Hag Queen’s cruel reign. </Har_Ganeth>
<Har_Kaldra> Har Kaldra, the "Forgotten City," is now a ruined crater, a monument to Malekith’s wrath. Once a mighty fortress guarding the passes between Naggarond and the Ironfrost Glacier, it was destroyed in a single night of sorcerous fury when its inhabitants rebelled against the Witch King. </Har_Kaldra>
<Karond_Kar> Karond Kar, the "Tower of Despair" or "Slaver's Gate," is a bleak coastal city perpetually battered by storms. Its inhabitants are hardened by the harsh conditions, and the city serves as a major slave market. Captured slaves face a grim fate, either toiling in mines, serving in the dungeons, or being sacrificed to Khaine. The city is known for its Beastmasters, who train creatures from the Blackspine Mountains, and its cruel slave markets, overseen by wealthy traders from their bone-adorned mansions. The docks, where slaves are unloaded and subjected to brutal treatment, are a testament to the city's cruelty. The breakwater, Neira Vor, is decorated with statues of dying slaves, a grim welcome for new arrivals. <Karond_Kar>
Naggarond, the "Tower of Cold," is the largest and oldest Dark Elf city, a sprawling metropolis of dark stone and perpetual smoke. Murder and thievery are commonplace, encouraged by Malekith to weed out the weak. At its heart lies the Black Tower, a city within a city, housing the Witch King and his court. The council chamber, with its tapestry of bloodied hair and chairs occupied by the corpses of those who displeased Malekith, is a testament to his cruel reign. The Black Tower’s upper levels are where Malekith holds court and plots against Ulthuan, while the lower levels lie desolate and neglected. Malekith’s scrying chamber allows him to observe any corner of the world, his gaze perpetually drawn to Ulthuan.
