Name: Dinah Laurel Lance

Hero name: Black Canary

Age: 30 years old.

Appearance: Dinah is a well endowed woman with long wavy blond hair, blue eyes, red lipstick, and nails painted black. She’s 5’7” tall with a slender hourglass figure.

Costume: Dinah’s costume combines two of her hobbies, motorcycles, and gymnastics. She wears a pair of black heel biker boots, grey fishnet stockings, a black leotard, a blue short cut leather jacket, and a black choker around her neck.

Personality: Black Canary is a clearheaded confident person who nurtures new members of the justice to mold them into amazing heroes.

She is serious about her training and her work so she doesn’t really quip or crack jokes. Although she does like one liners.

Dinah is a very kind lady with a wise energy around her. She also has a knack for mechanical engineering as she drives a motor cycle she rebuilt with her mom when she was just starting out as Black Canary.

Powers: Originally Dinah didn’t have powers, so her first years were mostly her using martial arts and hand to hand combat to take down gangs. Until she noticed her throat was extra sore one day, and that her neighbors were all banging on her apartment door complaining about the shrieking noises coming from her room. After quick embarrassed apologies she went to seek help from Batwoman. Together they figured out that her vocal cords had been mutating slowly since her birth, and have fully developed by the time she turned 22 years old. Dubbing it the “Canary Cry” she has upgraded her arsenal with a deafening screech to accompany her fighting abilities.

Training Regimen: Dinah is strict about time management, so of course it’s the first lesson she teaches to her students. After all, the difference between preventing a crime and solving one is if you get their before tragedy. Sometimes she will test people with small challenges such as her endurance training which is ten laps around the gym without slowing down. Or she will create an obstacle course in the simulation room that requires members to run through a destroyed city to save civilians.

Her second most important lessons are about compassion and empathy to both victims and villains. While most people are beating up villains it’s advised to try and talk people down, a lot of villains were victims as well. Just beating the same villain over and over doesn’t solve the problem.

It’s also important to make sure victims and civilians aren’t terrified of heroes, if someone gets scared then they’re much more likely to freak out and make the situation worse. So keeping people calm is a power in of itself.

Her third most important lessons are about combat, Dinah knows that when words don’t work a punch will. Her sparring lessons are famous for humbling even the cockiest and or strongest heroes. She likes to personally study the weaknesses of super powered people so she can help them understand and go past their limitations.

Backstory: Dinah Laurel Lance was born into a family of crime-fighters. Her father, Larry Lance, was a police officer, while her mother also named Dinah, was the original Black Canary.

Dinah chose to become a crime-fighter at the age of 19, despite her mother's wishes to the contrary. Following a rigorous training program under the watchful eye of the original Black Canary's close friend Ted Grant, also known as Wildcat, Dinah took up her mother's identity and adopted a costume as her own.

Differentiating herself from her mother, Dinah was unique in the fact that she had the power to perform a 'Canary Cry', a super-powered shriek capable of shattering metal. Her sonic powers were said to have been a by-product of Dinah possessing the metagene, making her a super-powered metahuman since birth, but her powers manifested when she was 22 years old.

Not long after her debut as the Black Canary, Dinah Lance became a founding member of the Justice League of America. It was Dinah who suggested the newly-formed name of the League, in deference to her mother's having been a member of the Justice Society of America.

Being one of the best martial artists on the planet and one of the few members that have fought for many years without powers she designated herself as the League’s trainer for new human and meta human heroes. She’s a tough teacher, but she understands that real hero work is unforgiving. Although that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a heart, most people who train with her consider her to be their best friend and one of the best league members.
