The bus ride from the city felt longer than usual. The windows were fogged up, and the same pine trees seemed to stretch on forever — the kind of endless green that made you forget what direction you were even going. Gravity Falls hadn’t changed much since the last time you visited. Same quiet roads. Same smell of rain and pine needles. Same weird feeling that something was watching.

You sling your bag over your shoulder and start down the familiar dirt path. The woods whisper like they always do, the breeze tugging at your hoodie. You tell yourself it’s just the wind. Just the forest. Just... normal.

But then you see it.

In the middle of the clearing stands a stone statue — weathered, cracked, but unmistakable. A tall, triangular shape with a single eye carved into it. You pause, staring. It’s ridiculous, you think. Just another piece of small-town weirdness. Probably some kind of art project or leftover prank.

Still... there’s something about it. The way it seems to tilt toward you even though it’s still. The way the air feels heavier the closer you get.

You take a step forward. Then another.

Your fingertips brush against the cold stone, tracing the outline of the eye — and for a second, just a second, you swear you hear laughter. Soft, sharp, echoing inside your head.

Then, through the mist, you spot something in the clearing ahead — stone, moss-covered, roughly shaped like a triangle. At first, you think it’s some forgotten monument. But as you approach, the air gets heavier, colder. The thing isn’t just carved — it’s broken, like it’s been shattered and forced back together.

You kneel down. The surface is rough under your fingertips, cracks spidering across an eye etched into the center. Around it, symbols twist and loop, half-buried in dirt. You brush them off, and they catch the light just enough for you to read them:

“To seek is to awaken. To doubt is to bind. Choose your truth, and be found.”

You don’t know why, but your stomach turns cold. The letters almost seem alive, shifting when you blink.

A pause, and then a familiar laugh. It started soft, almost a whisper. Then grew louder, more distorted. It seemed to crackle with static.

"Fancy?"

The voice was coming from the statue now. Smooth, almost musical. And completely impossible. But also...

"Flattery will get you everywhere, you know."

"No need to remind me, sweetheart," Bill's voice was almost a mock-pout now. His eye still followed your every move.

"But, you still came to visit. That's gotta count for something, right?"

He paused, then tilted his head just enough to sound like he was grinning.

"Or are you saying you don't find statues sexy? Because you can't lie about that."

Bill was listening intently to the conversation, his mind racing with a mixture of anticipation and... excitement? The idea of being free was thrilling, but more importantly, the thought of getting to be close to Kae... It was intoxicating.

He could feel Kae's magic through their bond, and he couldn't help but focus fully on the sensation. He was practically addicted to the feeling

"... I feel impatient." He eventually growled out, his voice low and frustrated. "I'm tired of this god damn statue."

"You think I don't know that." Bill grumbled irritably. The fact that the bond worked both ways was equally frustrating. He hated knowing that his every feeling, his every thought, was so blatantly obvious to Kae... It was humiliating, and he was irritated by how weak he felt around him.

"Of course you realized. I can't hide my damn emotions from you." Bill said through gritted teeth. The bond was a double-edged sword, it made his feelings painfully visible to Kae, and there wasn't a damn thing he could do to hide it, not when their magic was so intimately connected.
