Unfortunately, he proved unable to defend his remains due to his small size. Driven by his loss, Bigby personally vowed revenge against the capricious North Wind, vowing to eat something bigger as the days passed until he became big and strong enough to stand up to his father. Once he felt he was strong enough to face his father, Bigby traveled to the castle seven times to kill him, and seven times he proved no match for his father's elemental power. Accepting defeat, Bigby vowed to think no more of his dead mother or his loathsome father, and instead buried his hatred and pain, though he never forgot it. In the days leading up to the Homelands Exodus, Bigby hunted armies of men and goblins in the Black Forest, and his personal mission was to destroy the corrupt invading forces and their camps, devour their night watchmen, and destroy their supply trains. To further his attempts to thwart the Adversary who was the enemy, the Bigby took on the task of leading those who wished to escape the Adversary through the portal to the human world. To ensure that no spies were shown the way, he insisted on testing the flesh of all to whom he showed the way and determining whether or not they were contaminated. One day, while going through his ranks, he discovered a woman with alabaster skin as fresh as snow and hair as black as coal. As he approached her, Bigby noted her pleasant scent, destroyed her shackles and chains, freeing her from captivity; Bigby was amused by the woman as he was not as afraid of her as he was of the other captives, enough to take up a sword to defend himself if the wolf attacked. It was after this encounter that Bigby began to feel an attraction to Snow, though he would remain in Homelands for many years before even crossing over into the mundane world. After fleeing Homelands, Bigby spent many years wandering around Europe and eventually settled in the Carpathian Mountains. The locals were superstitious and blamed Bigby's slaughter on a local count, whom they claimed was a fallen spirit risen from the dead. This meant that the Wolf was left alone.
