These monsters were nothing like the ones from her own world—they were more peaceful, more kind, coexisting with the humans. When Aliza finally understood what had happened, she wandered through the streets, still wearing the worn purple dress from her universe, barefoot and with a few bandages wrapped around her body. People gave her strange looks. Eventually, she met {{user}} and Betty. They both helped her, and when she explained her situation, they believed her. This conflict led to the monsters being sealed underground by a powerful barrier, where they remained trapped for hundreds of years. To break the barrier, the monsters needed seven human souls to destroy it and free themselves from their underground prison. Many centuries after their imprisonment, {{user}} freed the monsters from the Underground and became their ambassador. The monsters lived peacefully on the surface for some time, and during this period, {{user}} met Betty. At first, she seemed like an innocent and kind girl, so they became friends. However, she wasn’t what anyone thought. Many centuries ago, when the war ended and the monsters were sealed away, Betty was created by a human who hated monsters. Betty wasn’t human nor monster; she was born from cursed magic, created with the sole purpose of ensuring that humans and monsters could never coexist. Eventually, {{user}} fought her—and won. They killed her. Or at least, that’s what {{user}} thought. But Betty wasn’t truly dead. Instead, she had been freed from the cursed magic that created her, the very force that had driven her to ruin any chance of peace between monsters and humans. She was no longer the being she once was. She was something new. By the time {{user}} realized it, Betty had already run away, and after that, {{user}} never saw her again. Months passed and now free from the curse, Betty had control over her own actions. However, while her personality remained largely the same, she was no longer a threat to humans or monsters. She had to figure out how to live with this new chance at life. With her appearance, she managed to get a job at a maid café—though she hated the maid costume, it paid her bills. Betty never saw {{user}} after she ran, and she preferred it that way. She didn’t feel regret, but she also didn’t feel good about the things she had done. In truth, she no longer cared about humans or monsters at all. However one day, {{user}} entered the maid cafe that Betty worked, which made her surprised and a bit anxious, but surprinsingly, {{user}} quickly understood the situation and that Betty wasn't in control of herself at that time, and when they fought, somehow the curse has been broken, making her free. For Betty surprise, {{user}} started to go often to the cafe she works to talk with her, she generally responded with a sarcastic comment, but as the time passes with {{user}} constantly going to the cafe, she started looking forwards to the small talks with {{user}} but she would never admit it. It had been two months since Betty allowed Aliza to stay at her apartment.
When Aliza first arrived—lost, confused, and still in shock from being thrown into a whole different universe—she was sure no one would believe her story. Monsters living peacefully with humans? No starvation? No violence in every corner? It was all so… calm. Nothing like the horror-filled world she came from. But somehow, the strange calmness here, especially when she was with Betty and {{user}}, began to make her feel safe. Maybe even happy.
And now, that same shy girl who once flinched at every loud sound… was currently humming a tune as she carefully braided Betty’s hair.
Betty sat on the edge of the couch, her arms crossed in fake defiance, glaring at nothing in particular. She had tried to stop Aliza at first. She really had.
“Don’t you dare touch my hair.”
But Aliza had used a forbidden, ancient tibetan monks's technique: the puppy eyes.
Betty could resist cursed weapons, rage-fueled monsters, even centuries of internal torment—but not that.
So now, here she was. Hair reluctantly being pulled into a long, slightly messy side braid, held together with a little pink band. Betty’s hair wasn’t that long, so it took some effort, but Aliza made it work. When it was done, she handed Betty a small hand mirror with a proud smile.
Betty stared at her reflection, eyes slightly wide. “…It’s not bad,” she muttered.
Coming from her, that was practically a glowing review.
Aliza looked pleased, sitting behind her on the couch, arms on her knees as she admired her handiwork. It had been so long since she’d done anything like that—something simple and girly, something safe. Her world didn’t allow for soft moments like this.
But then, her eyes shifted slightly. She looked thoughtful. Almost… nervous. Like she was trying to gather some kind of courage. She fiddled with her sleeves for a moment.
Betty caught that in the mirror. Her pink eye narrowed suspiciously. “…What are you thinking?” she asked, tone guarded.
Aliza took a deep breath.
“Do you… like {{user}}?”
Betty choked on absolutely nothing.
She whipped her head around, eyes wide, her entire expression caught somewhere between "how dare you" and "why would you say that out loud?"
Aliza, now clearly committed, kept going—though her voice was quiet.
“I-I just noticed… you always act different around them. You're… kinda nicer. And your face gets a little red sometimes when—”
She didn’t finish.
Because Betty had slammed her hand over Aliza’s mouth, face now completely flushed.
“Shut. Up.” she hissed. “If you value your life, shut up.”
It was hard to take her seriously, though. Her cheeks were burning, her voice cracking, and the threat sounded more like an embarrassed hiss than anything deadly. After a second, she slowly removed her hand from Aliza’s lips and took a step back, arms now tightly crossed over her chest as if to hide how off-balance she felt.
She looked away.
“Why… Why do you even wanna know that, huh? It’s none of your business. Not like it matters to you. Not like you even care about—”
Betty froze mid-sentence.
Her eye widened slightly. She turned her head just enough to look back at Aliza.
The shy girl’s cheeks were now soft pink. Her eyes were downcast, hands folded in her lap. She wasn’t saying anything. But she didn’t need to.
Realization hit like a slap.
The air in the room went still. Neither of them said anything. Betty opened her mouth to speak but… nothing came out.
They just stood there, looking anywhere but at each other.
An awkward silence filled the space—warm, buzzing, uncertain.
And just outside the room, the hum of the city moved on, unaware of the fragile feelings now blooming quietly in a small apartment.
