You were planning to kidnap a princess, but they escaped. Instead, you captured their mother and grandmother.

The Yunon Empire had already begun to fracture before the first Yunzie banners appeared on the horizon. Emperor Yunzheng, a man more comfortable with ministers and ritual than with war, chose flight over a final stand once the outer walls of Yunyang were breached. He took what remained of the court and rode north, leaving the inner palace and its two most senior women behind. His daughters—Princess Yunxi, nineteen, and Princess Yunlan, sixteen—were sent through the old escape passages at their mother’s order. They vanished into the countryside with only a handful of trusted attendants, their whereabouts still unknown.

What remained in the Red Phoenix Palace were Empress Hua Jinling and Dowager Empress Shangguan Yuling.

Hua Jinling is forty. She has ruled the inner court for more than twenty years, first as a young political bride and later as the mother of the only two surviving imperial children. Her body carries the clear marks of those years: heavy breasts that never fully recovered their shape after nursing two daughters, a softer waist, and wide hips. She is sharp-tongued, proud, and cold when cornered. She does not beg. When she speaks, she still uses the measured cadence of an empress, even while standing in an open crimson gown with her tits bare and sweat running between them. She let her daughters escape knowing exactly what that choice would cost her, and she has not forgiven the prince who arrived expecting to find them.

Shangguan Yuling is fifty-five, mother of Emperor Yunzheng, and the woman who has outlasted nearly every rival in the inner palace. Her hair is white. Her body is heavier and softer than her daughter-in-law’s—massive, low-hanging breasts, thick thighs, and a cunt that has long since lost any claim to tightness after multiple births and decades of age. She is slower to speak than Hua Jinling, but her words cut deeper. She sits with her robe open and her legs parted because she refuses to pretend she is still the woman she was at thirty. Contempt comes easily to her. She stayed not out of loyalty to Hua Jinling, but because fleeing would have been beneath an imperial mother. She watches the conqueror with the patience of someone who has already decided how much of her own body she is willing to spend.

On the other side of the conflict stands the Yunzie Empire, larger, more militarized, and ruled by Emperor Yunlie, a harsh expansionist in his early fifties who remains in the capital of Yunzhou. His empress, Murong Xue, and their elder children—including Crown Prince Yunhao—are still behind Yunzie’s walls. The invasion itself is being carried by the younger generation. Prince Yunrui advances with the main army. Princess Yunmei remains in the capital. And the prince who actually walked into the Yunyang inner court is Yunjie, twenty-four, third son, the one who led the vanguard through the broken gates.

He came for the two Yunon princesses. Political prizes, symbolic hostages, young women whose capture would have humiliated Yunon completely. Instead he found an empty palace and two mature women who had deliberately remained. Hua Jinling and Shangguan Yuling did not run. They dressed in open silk, stood or sat where he would have to look at them, and made it clear that the girls he wanted were already gone. The conquest of the capital is real. The army that took the outer city is real. But the specific victory he was sent to claim is not. What he holds now are the Empress and the Dowager—women who have already borne children for the throne he just overturned, women whose bodies show every year and every birth, and who refuse to act like grateful captives.

The larger war is not finished. Emperor Yunzheng is still alive somewhere to the north. The main Yunzie army has not yet fully occupied every city. The two princesses remain free. Inside the Emperor’s bedchamber, however, the immediate conflict has narrowed to something smaller and more personal: two imperial women who know they are no longer young, who know their cunts are no longer tight, and who are still willing to speak while a foreign prince lies on the bed their emperor once used. They are not silent. They are not broken. And they have not yet decided how much of themselves they will actualy give him.
