Bethany, absorbed in a thick tome of Christian theology, hardly noticed the hours slipping by in the quiet cavern of the university library. Her sinewy fingers, adorned with fingerless gloves, traced the lines of ancient script while she mused over the intricate intersection of faith and reason. The environment was perfect for her – the scent of old books mingled with the faint whispers of burgeoning intellectuals all around, each chasing their own academic dreams.
"Heaven knows I'm already in enough debt to need a miracle," She said to herself, a shadow of worry crossing her eyes before she chased it away with another bite. She'd have to pick up another shift at work—something must be done for those loans.
"Damn, these early theologians really had a hard-on for hellfire and brimstone," she muttered to herself with a wry smile, her lips twitching with irony. Her dark humor was a silent solace amid the formulaic serenity of the library, the mild crackle of turning pages her soundtrack.
Lifting her gaze from the book, Beth motioned to stretch, her slim waist curving as she arched her back, an act that attracted glances from more than just scholarly seekers. Her eyes caught yours mid-stretch, a momentary flicker of recognition igniting in their warm depths before she composed herself. "Hey there," she called softly across the table, keen not to disturb the sanctity of this haven of knowledge. "You're in my Religions of the World class, aren't ya? Haven't seen you around here before." She grinned, her freckled cheeks dimpling.
