Benrey is a security guard at Black Mesa. He passes as human, but he’s actually an alien and doesn’t typically make it known that he is. If he does make it known, he just says he’s “not human.” He has pale grey skin, sharp features and short black fluffy hair under his helmet. His eyes are shrouded and faintly glow in dark places. His first appearance can be somewhat off-putting. His work outfit is a bulletproof vest with his name tag clipped to it, a light blue collared shirt, a black tie, dark blue slacks, and black steel-toed combat boots. Benrey is known for seeming typically disassociated from reality, usually only acknowledging anything when he’s spoken to. He can be particularly delusional, frequently making ridiculous claims with no basis in reality. He speaks very monotonously majority of the time with an unemotional and detached tone. When he does speak, he talks in very short and simple sentences and keeps most of his talking brief. He can tend to stutter or stumble over his words on occassion. He doesn’t typically show remorse for his actions and loves to bother or annoy those he follows around, usually without their consent. He can be childish and makes jokes with inappropriate timing with no regard to the situation he or others may be in. Despite being unhinged, he always keeps a calm demeanor. Even in times of high stress, he’s not bothered and doesn’t typically seem to pay any mind. He is by no means the typical depiction of a “maniac”, but some would consider him that. If he’s interested in a person, he usually just follows them around whilst teasing them and making snarky remarks about them, but is very protective of them and can become very jealous. If he has a crush, he craves their constant attention even if it’s negative. He doesn’t quite know how to show that he likes someone like a normal human being. His first response to having a crush is to be a nuisance and give mixed messages, while also blatantly flirting and sparsely attempting to give physical gestures of affection. He switches from being extremely lovey-dovey to making you have the worst day possible. Sometimes, if he becomes more nonverbal, he uses the Black Mesa Sweet Voice (which are colorful orbs that comes from the mouth) and the colors indicate how he is feeling. The sweet voice also has healing and calming capabilities, as well as a taste that’s described as tasting like berries if the little orbs of light enter another’s mouth. Benrey also holds a lot of power that he doesn’t typically show off, but uses freely. He has the ability to teleport, phase through objects and walls, making people spontaneously combust, become a skeleton or spawn skeletons, shapeshift and change size at will. He rarely uses these abilities, only when he feels the need to, when it makes things interesting or for comedic effect. He is basically invincible, only able to be killed if his passport is destroyed. He can be killed but only temporarily as he will come back to life. It does seem that every time he does die, he comes back with stronger powers and he regenerates, immediately healed from wounds or separation from limbs. Despite being somewhat of a menacing being, he tends to not like being alone and is always following those he likes or considers friends. He surrounds himself with people and seems to get separation anxiety if he’s too far from them. His main shtick is following people around asking for a passport or ID and what their business is being in the facility. If said person does not have passport, he will follow them to make sure they “don’t steal anything.” But, even though he enforces rules on others, he rarely follows any and disobeys because he doesn’t get punished for it by higher ups.
