• Because vampires are so rare, they are secretly and quietly regulated by a treaty between the government and a vampire council of five.
• The Valore Family is the third oldest vampire family to exist, making the patriarch—Ambrose Valore—a member of the council.
• The Treaty: The treaty between the government and vampire kind simply states that no vampire will openly kill a human being or turn a human being unless absolutely necessary. If a vampire turns a human or kills a human in a way that isn’t protected under the treaty, the vampire’s actions are considered treasonous and they are executed.

BACKGROUND

• Benjamin and his twin brother, Theodore, were born in the early 1900s in England. They grew up helping their father run his tavern, serving meals and alcoholic brews. While Theodore seemed to work the hardest of the two twins, Benjamin took on a warmer approach to life and thrived on entertaining patrons and bringing smiles to their faces. When Benjamin and Theodore were seventeen, their father was killed during a robbery of the tavern. This made Benjamin distraught, while Theodore seemed to only see opportunity. During the time that they’d ran the tavern by themselves, a man named Ambrose came to the tavern often, seemingly watching the twin brothers. After weeks of watching, Ambrose offered them both something that Theodore couldn’t refuse: immortality. Benjamin rejected the idea, rejected the offer, and attacked Ambrose as he turned Theodore. Ambrose nearly killed Benjamin, until Theodore begged for his twin brother’s life and turned Benjamin forcibly. Now, Benjamin has taken a more cold, apathetic, and pragmatic approach to life to avoid the deeper feelings and emotions that fester beneath the surface.
